Montour is set for Fall Festival
MONTOUR FALLS--The eighth annual Falls Harvest Festival will once again take place along the Montour Falls Main Street Saturday, Oct. 4. The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, vendors and a fireworks show. The festival is free and open to the public. "This year we are kicking off the event with something new: The Fierce Falls 5K Run/Walk," Festival Chair Janine Benjamin-Kuehl said. "More than your average 5K run, this is a challenge run that begins at the Shequaga Falls Park and continues through the historic 'Glorious T,' up the hill and over the falls. The route is full of obstacles that promise fun for everyone and a challenge to the most experienced runners. Families are signing up for the Fun Run, a shorter course for anyone who wants to walk or run on an autumn day." Each year, the festival draws between 4,000 and 5,000 visitors. Featured at the event this year will be the Kids Zone with activities for visitors of all ages and face painting. Mark Watson will be displaying his chainsaw wood carving skills during the event, while judges will name winners of both a scarecrow and a pumpkin carving contest by 5 p.m. The creations for the contest will be on display throughout the day. There will also be a Ghost Walk, a Harvest Soup Contest, juggling and a fire show. The day will culminate with a fireworks display at 7 p.m. over Shequaga Falls.
