Barrington appoints fracking committee

BARRINGTON—The Barrington town board interviewed and appointed seven people to serve on the town’s fracking committee, Wednesday, Dec. 19.
The committee will meet and compile information on hydraulic fracturing with the focus being as unbiased as possible.  Supervisor Fred Wright said all the people interviewed who applied were approved.  He added there was an eighth applicant who could not be at the Wednesday meeting, but will be interviewed sometime next year.  The board previously agreed to create committee, but waited until the people were interviewed to decide how large the group would be.
Wright said the board agreed completely on the selections.  He added, “we didn’t have to say a whole lot.”  Board member Calvin Crosby thanked the people for applying.  The committee now includes: Sue Lange (chairperson), Warren Foster, Paul Danielson, Timothy Acomb, Steve Coffman, Linda Petro, and Leo Kenyon.
    In other business:
    • A public hearing for the road use law was approved for Wednesday, Jan. 23.  The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
    • The board approved the fire contracts with the Dundee and Penn Yan Fire Departments.  Wright said there were exactly what was budgeted for by the town.  When asked about a contract for Wayne, Clerk Joy Perry said there is no actual contract, but the town still pays them for the coverage.
    • During the planning board report, Chairperson Lange asked Crosby if the agricultural committee had reviewed the subdivision law yet.  Crosby said they had, but not as a group.  Wright said the agricultural committee had a 45 day period to review the law for any concerns and it has been 60 days.  He added he would send the group a letter asking for a response in 10 days.
    • The board also approved Nathaniel Martin to fill the agricultural committee seat expiring Dec. 31, 2013.  Russell Martin was appointed to the seat expiring Dec. 31, 2015.  The board approved the two new members at the last meeting, but not which two open seats they would fill.
The next meeting of the Barrington town board is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 27.  This will be the year-end meeting.
