Dundee village budget is 16K over tax cap

DUNDEE—Mayor Fred Cratsley Jr. said the village of Dundee is currently $16,000 more than the 2 percent tax cap for next year’s budget during the village board meeting Tuesday, March 12. Cratsley mentioned this during a discussion about whether or not Dundee should hold a village-wide cleanup day. Cratsley said a village cleanup is a good idea, but since the village does not have the necessary equipment to run one and are already $16,000 past the 2 percent tax cap, he does not see where the village would be able to afford it, especially right now before they approve the budget for next year.
Cratsley said these are just preliminary numbers, adding the board has only had one meeting with supervisors to listen to why their budget numbers are at their current level. The board scheduled three budget workshops during the meeting for Tuesday, March 19 at 4 p.m., Monday, March 25 at 4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. to begin working on the budget. Cratsley said he wants the budget to be as close to being under the 2 percent tax cap as possible, saying it is going to be “nothing like the county.”
In other business:
• The board approved a drug-free workplace and testing policy and a local law updating the village code of ethics.
• The village approved the 2012 members of the Dundee Fire Department who qualified for credit under the Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP).
• The board approved three bids for cemetery cleanup projects, approving a mowing contract for $19,200, a fall cleanup contract for $2,850 and a spring cleanup contract for $1,500.
