Iversen plans 72 room hotel project in Penn Yan
PENN YAN—Chrisanntha Inc. President Chris Iversen said he is in the planning and development stages of building a new 72 room hotel on the site adjacent to former Sarrasin’s site along Lake Street. Iversen said while he does not many details sorted out yet, the building will be a 72 room Hampton Inn located on the lakefront property. Iversen said he is still working on the total project cost and square footage, but he is working on getting planning approval through the fall. He said design drawings on the hotel will begin in the winter with construction starting in the spring or early summer of next year. Iversen said the hotel should be open by the spring of 2015. Iversen said the hotel will feature an indoor pool, a breakfast room, meeting rooms and a fitness room. “It all plays into the overall development of the Penn Yan area,” Iversen said. “I don’t know if there is a direct tie in, but it is a good indication that we have confidence in the growth of the Penn Yan area.” This comes as yet another development project in the Penn Yan area for Chrisanntha, who is finishing work on their Birkett Landing upscale apartment project along Water Street. Chrisanntha was also selected by Yates County as the developer of the former Penn Yan Marine site last October, which includes a proposed 42 unit housing complex on the site. There has also been discussion of another hotel being built within the village by the Indus Group at the former McRedy car dealership site along Elm Street. They are planning on building a similar sized 75 to 78 room hotel to blend in with the historic district of the village. Their site plan was tabled by the Penn Yan planning board at their last meeting Aug. 5. While they have not selected a brand yet, Iversen said he does not think he will be in direct competition with the other new hotel. “We don’t think we will be competing with them because the lake location really is a premier spot,” Iversen said.
