Odessa-Montour meeting watch 11/13Meeting: The Odessa-Montour Central School board met on November 13 for an hour and a half, followed by an executive session to discuss personnel and any litigation issues. Attendance: Board president Alice Learn was absent; five members of the public were in attendance. Actions: Approved inspectors and clerks for the November 24 capital reconstruction project vote (EXCEL) and set a salary of $15/hour. • Made two corrections to the property tax levy. • Created a new extracurricular position; advisor for National Junior Honor Society. Discussion without action: The board heard several public comments including a family concerned about school transportation for a child living with them and several fifth-grade parents who came to speak in support of a choir trip to an event called America Sings in Washington, D.C. • The board talked about the possibility of mid-year state cuts to state aid and the current budget proposals suggested by the governor. Superintendent Jim Frame assured the board that funding for the EXCEL project was not in jeopardy. • The board heard administrator reports from the school principals and the head of special education services that highlighted summer school results, a new tutoring program that brings Cornell grad students to rural schools, and more vibrant college prep and career counseling for special education students, and reading skills building in the elementary school.
