SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2-14-18

Dundee cheerleaders take first
The Dundee varsity cheerleading squad took first place, Sunday, Feb. 11 at the Greater Rochester Cheer and Dance Competition at Blue Cross Arena. Dundee faced Williamson and Sodus in their division and won with a total score of 70.90.

Dundee girls basketball falls to HAC, Naples
ROCHESTER--Dundee's girls varsity basketball team lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia, 62-27, Friday, Feb. 9.
Mackenzie Strait posted 12 points. Karynna Rutledge and Makenzie Cratsley both scored four points. Cratsley also had seven rebounds. Hallie Knapp earned two points and 10 rebounds, while Alyssah Newell also posted two points.
The Lady Scots fell to Naples, Thursday, Feb. 8. The final score was 49-40.
Megan Sutherland led with 14 points and eight rebounds. Strait added 11 points and seven rebounds. Newell contributed five points, while Knapp had four points and five rebounds. Cratsley and Delaine Nolan each posted three points.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team fell to Harley Allendale Columbia, Saturday, Feb. 10. The final score was 56-43.
Kyle Cratsley led with 14 points. Robbie Clark had nine.
The Scots basketball team lost to Naples, 55-50, Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Austin Gibson had 16 points for the Scots.
Bowling
The Dundee boys and girls varsity bowling teams competed in the Finger Lakes Coaches Doubles and Singles Tournament, Monday, Feb. 5.
Sam Hunt and Kayla Andrews each were second for the West Girls Singles, in Divisions B and C respectively. As a doubles team, Andrews and Jayden Brewer took first for Division C. Edele Morgan also won an award for Girls West High Game (249).
Jared Hartman took first for Boys West Singles, Division A. In Division B, Connor Muck and Hunter Murphy placed first and second respectively. Collin Goodman and Hartman finished second for West Doubles, Division A.

Penn Yan boys pick up two wins; bowlers top division
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team topped Newark, 56-52, Friday, Feb. 9.
Desmond Battin scored 23 points, going 11-for-11 at the free-throw line. Derrick Riviello posted 14 points, with four three-point shots. Dylan Stape posted eight points, while Ben Emerson scored five points. Cade Curbeau added three points. Peyton Schuck earned two points, while Conner Fingar had one.
The Mustangs beat Midlakes, Tuesday, Feb. 6. The final score was 74-63.
Battin led with 24 points, followed Emerson with 17 points. Stape had 13 points. Curbeau scored eight, while Schuck added six points. Riviello contributed three points. Fingar scored two.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs basketball team topped Newark, Friday, Feb. 9. The final score was 63-41.
Sydney Bloom led with 26 points, Hannah Keech followed with 15.
Penn Yan fell to Midlakes, 80-48, Thursday, Feb. 8.
Bloom again led with 16 points, three blocks, and three rebounds. Emma Harling posted nine points and seven rebounds. Joddie Decker added eight points, five rebounds, and four steals. Ashley Sisson earned six points and eight rebounds. Keech and Jenna Curbeau both scored four points. Curbeau also had eight rebounds.
Bowling
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams competed at the Finger Lakes Coaches Doubles and Singles Tournament, Monday, Feb. 5, with the Mustangs taking first in several categories.
In the East Girls Singles, Kari Ayers was first in Division A, while Emily Augustine took first in Division B. Rielly Stewart was second in Division C. Augustine and Ayers together won the East Girls Doubles, Division A.
Jon Mashewske was first for the East Boys Singles, Division B. Mashewske and Cameron Bassage took first in East Doubles for Division B. Ben Broome and Trenton Samaltuski placed second in Division C for doubles.

Lady Lakers lose two games; boys split pair
ALMOND--The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team lost to Alfred-Almond, 36-33, Thursday, Feb. 8.
For the Lakers, Destiny Hammond led with eight points. McKenzie Boscoe and Maddie Sprague both added six points, with four and three rebounds respectively. TeĆ” Flynn and Paige MacDonald each earned four points, with eight and three rebounds respectively. Megan Allen contributed three points and four rebounds, while Deonna Deal scored two points.
Hammondsport fell to Canisteo-Greenwood, 66-41, Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Boscoe posted 14 points, followed by Hammond with 12 and five rebounds. Flynn added six points, four assists, and 12 rebounds. MacDonald earned five points, while Maddie Sprague scored four.
Boys basketball
The Lakers boys varsity basketball team lost to Prattsburgh, 71-42, Saturday, Feb. 10. Cameron Roote had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Parker Watson netted nine points, with five rebounds.
The Hammondsport boys topped Jasper-Troupsburg, 49-39, Thursday, Feb. 8.
The Lakers took an early lead at the end of the first quarter, 11-2, but were outscored by halftime. Hammondsport regained the lead in the final quarter.
Watson had 16 points with 11 rebounds. Brayden Whitcomb added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Luke Atkinson netted 10 points with eight rebounds.

Cheerleading teams compete at championship
The Watkins Glen varsity cheerleading squad (left photo) claimed first place at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, Saturday, Feb. 10. The team won first place in the Varsity Co-Ed Division with a score of 63.65. The Odessa-Montour girls (right photo) took second place in the large squad division.

Watkins Glen girls basketball defeats Newark Valley
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team topped Newark Valley, 54-35, Thursday, Feb. 8.
Taylor Kelly led with 21 points, five steals, and three rebounds. Clara Chedzoy added 10 points and five rebounds. Hannah Morse added six points, four steals, and four assists. Danielle Leszyk earned five points. Emmie Bond and Ryanna LaMoreaux each scored four points.
Boys basketball
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team fell to Union Springs, 70-40, Friday, Feb. 9.
Dayne Hughey led with 11 points. Dylan Markley earned nine points, while Joe Chedzoy added seven.
The Senecas lost to Newark Valley, Thursday, Feb. 8. The final score was 66-54.
Chedzoy led with 21 points and five rebounds. Hughey added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Owen Scholtisek earned nine points, while Collin Baker scored six.
Wrestling
The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team took 25th in the Section IV Division 2 Championship, held at Watkins, Saturday, Feb. 10.
Kameryn Sheldon (220) took fourth, with a 3-2 record. Sheldon was the only Senecas' wrestler to place.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team placed sixth in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) swimming championship, Saturday, Feb. 10.
Nathaniel Wickham finished second in the 50 free (28.32, a season best). Jacob Asbury swam a personal best in the 50 free with a time of 28.82. James Jensen also swam a personal best with a time of 31.82.
In the 100 free Wickham finished fifth (56.39), while Jensen swam a personal best (1:14.95). Asbury got a personal best in the 200 free (2:30.92), dropping two seconds. Scott Brubaker had a personal best in the 200 IM (2:49.46), dropping two seconds.
The 200 medley relay team of Jensen, Brubaker, Wickham, and Asbury swam a season best time of 2:13.18. The 200 free relay team of Jensen, Asbury, Brubaker, and Wickham swam a season best time of a 1:56.59.
The swimmers lost to Dryden, 89-37, Monday, Feb. 5.
Wickham took first in the 50 free (24.57) and first in the 100 free (54.89). Brubaker finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.30) and third in the 200 IM (2:51.20). Jensen was second in the 100 free (1:16.39). Asbury placed third in the 200 free (2:32.10).
Bowling
The Watkins Glen girls varsity bowling team finished fourth in the Section IV Class C Championship, Friday, Feb. 9.
Nikole VanDyke bowled a 463. Hayley Cornish posted a 438, followed by Nancy Jackson with a 409.
The boys placed seventh in the class sectionals, Saturday, Feb. 10. Conlin Wysocki led with a 481. Wrett Brower followed with a 479, while H. Nathaniel Rose posted a 458. Wyatt Brower had a 434.

Basketball falls to Waverly; swimmers take titles
ODESSA--Odessa-Montour's boys varsity basketball team lost to Waverly, 79-53, Thursday, Feb. 8.
Curtis Harris led with 22 points. Brandon Ray scored nine points, while Zach Elliott had eight. Devon Roth and Paden Grover each earned four points. Noah Austin, Derrick Lewis, and Preston Harris each added two points.
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team fell to Waverly, Tuesday, Feb. 6. The final score was 58-36.
Gillian Clark led with 13 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Grover earned eight points and eight rebounds. Kennedey Heichel scored four points. McKennah Lott, Alexis Saunders, and Grace Vondracek each added three points, while Sara Gardner posted two.
"We were never really in this game, but we did play a real solid second half, versus by far the best team the IAC has to offer," said Coach Greg Gavich. "Now it's time to recharge our batteries, rest up a little, and get ready for the post-season. We play in the IAC Small School championship game Thursday, Feb. 15."
Odessa ends the regular season with a 14-5 record.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team placed third at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, Saturday, Feb. 10.
Alec Betts took first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.30, a personal record) and second place in the 500 free (5:43.29). Billy Tague took first in the 100 fly (56.92) and second in the 200 IM (2:08.60).
The 200 medley relay team of Betts, Tague, Jake Mayette, and Brett Walters were second in a season best of 1:48.94. The 400 free relay team of Cameron Adams, Micah Brewster, Mayette, and Bailey Hornbrook took second in 3:50.39. The 200 free relay team of Betts, Hornbrook, Walters, and Tague took third in a season best of 1:36.88.
Adams was third in the 500 free (5:47.12, a personal record) and fourth in the 200 free (2:03.46, a personal record). Walters was fourth in both the 50 free (24.68, a personal record) and the 100 back (1:05.82, a personal record).
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed 10th in the Section IV Division II Championships, Saturday, Feb. 10.
Jacob Zimmer (152), Jeremiah Lynch (160), and Dylan Houseknecht (285) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Zimmer and Lynch both finished the tournament with 4-2 records. Houseknecht was 2-2.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour bowling teams competed in the Section IV Class D finals last week. The girls tied Candor in third with a total of 2012. The boys were eighth with a total of 1978..
