Penn Yan lacrosse falls to Canandaigua in overtime PENN YAN--Penn Yan's boys varsity lacrosse team fell to Canandaigua, 7-6, in overtime, Friday, April 6. Canandaigua scored first and held a 2-1 lead at halftime. Both teams scored three points in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Austin Blumbergs scored twice, bringing Penn Yan's total to six. Mark Belles of Canandaigua then scored twice to capture the win. Overall, Blumbergs had four goals and one assist. Conner Fingar and Devon Gerhardt each scored once. Dylan Stape had one assist. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun earned four saves. The Mustangs topped Erie Prep, 17-2, in an away game, Tuesday, April 3. Fingar led with six goals. Colton Smith posted four goals and one assist. Blumbergs had three goals and four assists. Stape added two goals and one assist. Ayden Mowry had one goal and two assists, while Max Brodmann also scored once. Devon Gerhardt assisted once. In the cage, Kinyoun posted five saves. Softball The Lady Mustangs varsity softball team beat Midlakes, Wednesday, April 4, while competing for the week in Myrtle Beach. The final score was 13-6. Penn Yan lost to Doddridge, West Virginia, Tuesday, April 3. The final score was 15-10. Baseball The Penn Yan varsity baseball team beat Newark, 5-4, Friday, April 6. Brennan Prather, Peyton Shuck, Donny McMahon, Greg Hoke, and Matt Moniot each earned an RBI. Schuck also had two hits, while Noah Detar added two runs. The Mustangs fell to North Lincoln, 10-1, Thursday, April 5. Schuck and Moniot each had a hit, while Schuck also stole one base. The baseball team lost to Petersburg, Wednesday, April 4. The final score was 11-9. Nick Hoover posted three RBIs, two hits, two runs, and a triple. Detar and Schuck both had two hits, one run, and one RBI. Brandon Sherman and McMahon each added an RBI. McMahon also had a triple in the game.
Lakers fall to Naples, 17-5 NAPLES--The Hammondsport varsity baseball team fell to Naples, 17-5, Tuesday, April 3. Hits came from Mike Beam, Bill Whitney, Luke Atkinson, Zak Davis, and Hunter Ball. Tennis The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team topped Avoca, 5-0, Monday, April 2. Troy Sanford defeated Mike Oliver, 6-1, 6-1. Colin Drain topped Connor Learn, 6-0, 6-0. Drew Stockton won by forfeit. Benjamin Fingar and Madison Pifer beat Isabelle Beecher and Hannah Stewart, 6-0, 6-0. Dylan McDermott and Bryce Santacroce won against Angelo Ferrara and Cheyne Bonnewell, 6-0, 6-0. Softball The Hammondsport varsity softball team fell to Campbell Savona, Tuesday, April 3. The final score was 9-2.
Watkins Glen boys lacrosse loses two games WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team fell to Seton Catholic, 14-9, Thursday, April 5. Coach Nils Watson said it was a "terrible first half, but [we] picked it up in the second half. By then the score was too out of reach for the Senecas." Watkins lost to Chenango Forks, Monday, April 2. The final score was 24-1. Dalton Cummings scored for the Senecas, unassisted. Joe Chedzoy won 10 face-offs. In goal, Josh Bravo posted four saves and Kaitlyn Valla earned one. Tennis The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team defeated Newark Valley, 7-0, in an away match, Thursday, April 5. In singles, Nathaniel Wickham beat Lindsey Diego, 6-1, 6-3. Peter Sandritter topped Ashley Marsh, 6-0, 6-1. Dylan Morse won against Colby Davis, 6-1, 6-0. Clint Craven beat Natalie Shofkom, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Hannah Morse and Jill Cantieni beat Alexander Umiker and Noah Shiel 6-4, 6-1. Megan Hazlitt and Makenna Fraboni topped Mackenna Nechwedowich and Emily Squires, 6-4, 6-2. Tim Clifford and Kathleen Clifford won against Kelsey Kerns and Cymbri Jefferson, 6-0, 6-1. The Senecas fell to Lansing, Monday, April 2. The final score was 7-0. Dylan Morse was the only Watkins players to win a set with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Other singles scores were Wickham, 6-2, 6-0; Tim Clifford, 6-0, 6-0; and Craven, 6-1, 6-0. Scores for doubles were: Hannah Morse and Cantieni, 6-3, 6-4; Fraboni and Hazlitt, 6-3, 6-4; and Kathleen Clifford and Kendra Larson, 6-2, 6-0. Track and field The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams lost to Waverly, Tuesday, April 3. The scores for boys were 98-37 and for girls, 94-42. The 1600 meter relay team (Owen Scholtisek, Casen Weeden, Gabe Planty, and Aaron Planty) placed first in 3:57.53. Gabe Planty took first in the 1600 meter run (4:49.04) and first in the 3200 meter run (10:48.21). Aaron Planty was first in the 800 meter run (2:10.04). Weeden finished first in the discus (92'6"). For the girls, the 400 meter relay team (Allison Gibson, Haley Dean, Jena Slater, and Isobel Scheffey) took first with 57.93. Gibson won the 100 meter dash (14.095) and the high jump (4'6"). Emmie Bond took first in the shot put (27'3.5"). Slater placed first in the pole vault (7'6").
Odessa-Montour tops Groton ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team beat Groton, 14-2, Wednesday, April 4. Grace Vondracek had two home runs, two hits, three runs, and four RBIs. Heidi Casselberry added one hit, two runs, and two RBIs. Isabel Foote added two runs, two hits, and one RBI. Dezirae Minnier posted one hit, two runs, and one RBI, while Emma Lodge earned one hit and one RBI. Tennis The Indians' varsity tennis team fell to Lansing, 7-0, Friday, April 6. In singles, Curtis Harris lost, 6-1, 6-0, while Billy Tague was beaten, 6-0, 6-1. Cameron Adams fell, 6-2, 6-0. Deshawn Johnson also lost, 6-0, 6-0. The scores in doubles were: Sara Gardner and Rhys Stermer, 6-2, 6-1; Jonathon Myers and Jordan Robinson, 6-0, 6-0; and Jacy Knapp and Bronwyn Stermer, 6-1, 6-1..
