Penn Yan girls top Gananda; boys win three at home PENN YAN--The Penn Yan Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team defeated Gananda, 17-5, Wednesday, April 10. Sydney Hulse scored six goals. Alison Winslow posted four goals, while Hayley Andersen had three goals and two assists. Avery Castner and Grace Ledgerwood both earned two goals. Reilly Cohick assisted three times. In the goal, Alexandra Cox had seven saves. Boys lacrosse The Mustangs' boys varsity lacrosse team topped Nichols in a non-league home game, Saturday, April 13. The final score was 9-2. Penn Yan took an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter. Colton Smith led with three goals and one assist. Devon Gerhardt posted two goals and three assists, while Conner Fingar also had two goals and one assist. Chase Blumbergs and Clay Kinyoun each scored once. Ayden Mowry and Carter Earl both assisted once. In the goal, Jeff Kinyoun had seven saves. With the win, the Mustangs' record is 5-1. The Penn Yan boys beat Penfield, 4-2, Thursday, April 11. Mowry scored twice. Fingar posted one goal and two assists. Blumbergs scored once, while Gerhardt and Smith each had one assist. Kinyoun earned seven saves. Penn Yan defeated Livonia-Avon, 18-1, Tuesday, April 9. Smith led with five goals and two assists, while Mekhi Mahan scored four goals. Blumbergs posted three goals and one assist. Mowry scored two goals and had three assists, while Fingar also earned two goals and two assists. Carter Earl and Lucas Paige each had a goal, while Earl also assisted once. Gerhardt assisted three times. Kinyoun posted four saves, while Griffin Emerson earned one. Tennis The Penn Yan varsity tennis team blanked Midalkes, 5-0, Tuesday, April 9. Lukas Spears beat TJ Delpriore, 6-0, 6-0. Cole Egburtson defeated Jordan Hughson, 6-2, 6-4. Brian Hollister won by forfeit. Spencer Christensen and Jeremy Fenton won against Casey Fox and Caiden Pappert, 6-0, 6-2. Max Baker and Reid Castner topped Max Burnham and Ethan Ruggles, 6-1, 6-0. The Mustangs' tennis team beat Mynderse, 3-2, in a home match, Monday, April 8. Spears topped Cody VanEchaute, 6-1, 6-0. Hollister won against Michael Andrews, 6-4, 7-5. In doubles, Christensen and Connor Hunter beat Cameron Hickey and Nick Meyers, 6-3, 6-7(2-7), 6-4. Softball The Penn Yan varsity softball team was topped by Newark in Myrtle Beach, Monday, April 15. The final score was 9-0. Kayla Andersen had five strikeouts and allowed two walks for the Lady Mustangs. Taylor Hight and Andersen both had singles at-bat. Penn Yan lost to Midlakes 15-0, Monday, April 8. Elle Harrison, Serina Sheradin, and Hight all recorded singles. On the pitcher's mound, Kayla Andersen had six strikeouts. Track and field Penn Yan's varsity track and field teams competed at North Rose-Wolcott, Monday, April 8. For the girls, Joddie Decker won the 1500 meter run (5:30.24). Triana Burgos-Farnan placed fourth in the discus (56'5"), fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:18.34), and sixth in the shot put (20'8"). Alexxis Henry was fourth in the long jump (13'1.5"), fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (21.04), and ninth in the 1500 meter run (6:58.24). Gracie Murphy was second in the 1500 meter run (5:32.24) and sixth in the long jump (12'10"). Jaina Doyle placed sixth in the 1500 meter run (6:04.24). For the boys, Dominic Lafferty was third in the 110 meter hurdles (20.74"), sixth in the long jump (15'9"), and sixth in the 1600 meter run (5:47.24). David Young was third in the 1600 meter run (5:31.24), followed by James Tette in fourth (5:37.24).
Dundee track travels to Waterloo meet WATERLOO--The Dundee varsity track and field teams competed at Waterloo, Tuesday, April 9. Matt Wood won the 1600 meter run (4:57.14) and 3200 meter run (10:51.24). Preston Cole was first in the shot put (38'10") and second in the discus (116'11"). Nic Laursen took first in the long jump (17'9.5") and third in the 200 meter dash (25.43). Peyton Boudinot was first in the pole vault (8'3"). Hoyt Leif took first in the discus throw (128'4"). Preston Cratsley finished second in the 200 meter dash (25.13), triple jump (35'6.5") and third in the long jump (17'2.5"). Gabe Kirkendall placed second in the 110 meter hurdles (21.20). Paul Knapp was second in the pole vault (7'0"). Austin Brace took third in the 100 meter dash (12.39). Justin Wood placed third in the 400 meter dash (59.64). Julian Ortiz was third in the high jump (5'4"). Hunter Crofoot finished third in the shot put (35'3"). Tate Hoyt took third in the discus event (99'10"). For the girls, Lily Hall won the 100 meter dash (13.71) and took second in the long jump (15'.5"). Melina Everetts placed first in the pole vault (6'0"). Hallie Knapp was first in the discus (81'3"). Ella Pollack took fifth in the 800 meter run (3.07.71) and high jump (4'0").
Lakers top Jasper-Troupsburg WESTFIELD,Pa.--The Hammondsport varsity golf team beat Jasper-Troupsburg, Wednesday, April 10. Parker Watson led with a 38, the low score of the match. Matthew Cole earned a 45, followed by Nigel Snyder with a 47 and Ben Cole with a 48. Cooper Watson added a 53. With the win, Hammondsport's record is 2-0. The Lakers won the first match of the season against Arkport, Tuesday, April 9. Watson posted a 40. Matthew Cole had 46 strokes, while Ben Cole earned 49. Noah Wilkinson had a 50. Gavyn Buck followed with a 52. Softball The Bradford/Hammondsport varsity softball team notched a win against Arkport/Caneseraga in an away game, Monday, April 8. The final score was 7-5. Tennis The Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport tennis team defeated Addison, 4-1, Wednesday, April 10. Colin Drain beat Marshall Harding 6-0, 6-1. Nolan Randall won against Noah Clark, 6-1, 6-0. Angelo Ferrara won by forfeit in singles, as did the doubles team of Elijah Lenhard and Hannah Stewart. The tennis team fell to Wellsville, 5-0, Monday, April 8.
Watkins Glen tennis defeats Trumansburg, 6-1 WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team beat Trumansburg, 6-1, Thursday, April 11. The winning singles scores for the Senecas were: Nate Wickham, 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (8-6); Dylan Morse, 6-0, 6-0; and Clint Craven, 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, the winning scores were: Hannah Morse and Jill Cantieni, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1; Ali LaMoreaux and Bryson Simmons, 6-1, 6-2; and Kathleen Clifford and Enkang Lin, 6-0, 6-0. The Watkins tennis team blanked Union Springs, 7-0, Wednesday, April 10. Wickham won against Def Zach Decaro, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Dylan Morse topped Tom Radley, 6-1, 6-0. Craven beat Julie Linderod, 6-0, 6-0. Jonathan Hatch defeated Ryan Huber, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5. Cantieni and Hannah Morse won against Madison Gannon and Simon Mills, 6-0, 6-0. LaMoreaux and Simmons topped Nick Bower and Jenna Clark, 6-1, 6-0. Clifford and Lin beat Mallory Brennan and David Morehouse, 6-0, 6-0. Lacrosse Watkins' varsity lacrosse team fell to Owego, Thursday, April 11. The final score was 16-5. Joe Chedzoy scored three goals. Seamus Mooney and Brandon Beaumont both had one goal. "It's good to play a tough team. Shows us what we can do and where we need to improve," said Coach Nils Watson. Softball The Senecas' varsity softball team lost to Waverly, Wednesday, April 10. The final score was 18-0. Track and field The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams competed at the Marathon Spring Fling, Thursday, April 11. Max Evans placed first in the high jump (5'10") and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:20.2). Gabe Planty won the 800 meter run (2:04.37). Nick Wilston finished fifth in the triple jump (34'11) and sixth in the long jump (17'6.25"). Cale Sutterby was sixth in the pole vault (7'). For the girls, Jena Slater took third in the pole vault (7'6"). Haley Dean was fourth in the 200 meters (30.36) and fifth in the 100 meters (14.94).
Odessa-Montour splits games with Marathon ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team beat Marathon, 5-4, Thursday, April 11. Grace Vondracek was 3-for-3, with a home run, double and two RBIs. Lydia Lynch and McKennah Lott were both 1-for-5, with a home run. Sam Sipes was 2-for-4, with an RBI. Isabel Foote, Jolynn Minnier, Rebecca Wolfe, and Emma Lodge each earned a hit. Vondracek struck out 17 in the game. The Indians and Marathon also finished a game from April 3, stopped due to darkness, with Marathon ultimately winning, 10-7, Thursday. Foote was 2-for-3, with two RBIs. Vondracek, Haley Landon, and Lodge each posted one RBI. The Indians fell to Groton, 6-4, Tuesday, April 9. Vondracek and Foote were both 2-for-4, with one RBI. Vondracek had a home run and Foote a double. Landon was 1-for-3, with an RBI. Individual hits also came from Lott, Lynch, and Minnier. Golf The Odessa-Montour golf team lost to Newark Valley, 259-289, Thursday, April 11. Tyler Saunders led with a 45, followed by Noah Hollenbeck with a 46. Austin Hoyt posted a 59. Brett Walters added a 69. Wes Wade golfed a 70. The Indians lost to Trumansburg, Monday, April 8. The final score was 285-296. Hollenbeck posted a 44. Saunders golfed a 47. Walters added a 67, followed by Hoyt with 68. Eliza Starkweather had a 70. Tennis The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team lost to Lansing, 7-0, Thursday, April 11. The singles scores were: Dylan Von Neida, 6-1, 6-1; Rhys Stermer, 6-1, 6-0; Sara Gardner, 6-1, 6-4; and Brooke Sikora, 6-0, 6-2. In doubles, the scores were: Jacy Knapp and Kaylea Simmons, 6-0, 6-0; Manuela Buffo and Cheianne Webster, 6-0, 6-0; and Isabella Arlington and Shania Austin, 6-0, 6-0. The Indians were beaten by Union Springs, 5-2, Tuesday, April 9. Odessa's two wins were singles matches. Stermer topped Julie Linderod, 6-1, 6-0. Gardner won against Jacquline Huber, 6-1, 6-3. Seneca Indians baseball The combined Odessa/Watkins varsity baseball team beat Susquehanna in a non-league match-up, Saturday, April 13. The final score was 9-2. The Seneca Indians scored runs early, with five in the first two innings. The boys earned another four runs in the fourth inning before Susquehanna scored in the sixth.
