Odessa tennis falls to Trumansburg; golf wins one ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team was defeated by Trumansburg, Wednesday, April 24. The final score was 6-1. Doubles pair Manuela Buffo and Marissa Marsh won by defeating Macy Covert and Elly Zifchock, 6-2, 6-4. The scores for the remaining doubles matches were: Cheianne Webster and Dana Zimmers, 6-3, 6-1; and Isabella Arlington and Malia Mertens, 6-0, 6-0. In singles, the scores were: Dylan Von Neida, 7-6, 6-3; Rhys Stermer, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3; Sara Gardner, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4; and Jacy Knapp, 6-3, 6-1. Track and field The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team took seventh at the Waite Molnar Invitational, Saturday, April 27. Zach Elliott placed first in the discus (129'11") and first in the shot put (54'8"). Paden Grover took first in the high jump (6'2"), fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (17.95), and 10th in the long jump (17'9.5"). Preston Harris was second in the 110 meter hurdles (16.84) and eighth in the long jump (18'3.5"). Eric Rumsey finished fourth in the discus (110'0"). Brock Sgrecci was seventh in the high jump (5'4.2"). Noah Brewster placed eighth in the 400 meter dash (56.53). The girls finished ninth. Tori Brewster was second in the 400 meter dash (1:05.21) and fourth in the long jump (15'10.75"). Autumn Garrison was sixth in the shot put (23'9.5") and seventh in the discus (66'6"). Delaney Paulisczak took sixth in the high jump (4'2") and 11th in the pole vault (6'0"). Camille Sgrecci took 12th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:20.66). Baseball The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team defeated Newark Valley, Wednesday, April 24. The final score as 9-0. Both teams were scoreless until the third inning, where Odessa/Watkins scored two runs. The combined team secured four more runs in the fourth and ended the last inning with the final three runs. Softball The Indians' girls varsity softball team lost to Candor, 9-8, in an away game, Wednesday, April 24. Lydia Lynch and McKennah Lott both secured two hits, three RBIs, and a double each. Madisyn Wells also earned two hits, with one RBI. Grace Vondracek was 3-for-3, with one RBI, one double, and a triple. On the pitcher's mound, she struck out 17. Odessa-Montour blanked Newfield, 19-0, Tuesday, April 23. Vondracek earned her 100th and 101st career hits in the game. She also had two RBIs. Jolynn Minnier led with six RBIs, going 2-for-3. Lynch was also 2-for-3, with two RBIs. Isabel Foote also had a hit and earned a double. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek posted nine strikeouts. The Odessa girls beat Southern Cayuga twice in a double-header, Monday, April 22. The Indians won the first game, 4-0. Vondracek struck out 11 and allowed no hits from Southern Cayuga. She also had Odessa's only hit and batted in two runs. The second game was 8-3. Vondracek was 3-for-3, with a double. Lott earned a hit, with a double and two RBIs. Foote and Emma Lodge both had hits as well. Golf The Odessa-Montour varsity golf team beat Notre Dame, Thursday, April 25, who only had two golfers. The Indians' overall score was 316. Noah Hollenbeck led with a 50. Tyler Saunders posted a 64. Eliza Starkweather and Brett Walters both followed with a 65. Austin Hoyt added a 72. Odessa fell to Thomas A. Edison, 284-288, Wednesday, April 24. Hollenbeck had a 49, while Saunders recorded a 54. Austin Hoyt earned a 60. Alex Willette added a 62, followed by Starkweather with a 63. The Indians golf team lost to Watkins Glen, Monday, April 22. The final score was 285-286. Saunders led with the match-low score of 43. Hollenbeck added a 47. Hoyt posted a 60. Walters carded a 67 and Willette a 69.
Watkins Glen competes at Ferd Stenta Invitational BATH--The Watkins Glen varsity track team competed in the Ferd Stenta Invitational, held at Bath, Friday, April 26. Breanna Carl won first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (9:16.52) and was 10th in the 1500 meter run (6:04.24). Kaylana Reckzis was seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase (10:55.24) and 23rd in the 800 meter run (3:28.21). Kai Sutterby finished 10th in the 800 meter run (2:52.45). Haley Dean took 11th in the meter dash (14.24). Madelyn Suddaby placed 14th in the triple jump (26'0") and 19th in the long jump (12'2"). The boys' 4x100 meter relay team (Casen Weeden, Raymond Rider, Nathan Murphy, and Colin Gaylord) won with a time of 55:42. Max Evans was fifth in the high jump (5'2"). Nick Wilston placed eighth in the long jump (18'2.5"). Jordan Avery was eighth in the high jump (5'0"). Nathan Murphy was 10th in the 400 meter run (1:03.78). Casen Weeden took 11th in the shot put (34'1") and was 16th in the 200 meter dash (27.86). Sam Thorsland took 12th in the 1600 meter run (5:21.13). Collin Gaylord took 18th in the discus (78'4") and 23rd in the 200 meter dash (29.46). Raymond Rider was 22nd in the shot put (29'3"). Elliott Holland finished 27th in the 400 meter run (1:15.00) and 27th in the long jump (13'3.5"). Tennis The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team lost to Elmira Notre Dame, 5-2, Thursday, April 25. Clint Craven topped Victor Tsang, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Alexandria LaMoreaux and Bryson Simmons beat Daniel Betancourt-Trompa and Rocco Scarseletta, 6-2, 6-3. The Senecas blanked Moravia, 7-0, Wednesday, April 24. Nathaniel Wickham beat Jared Justian in singles, 6-2, 6-3. Dylan Morse won against Rachel Bancroft, 6-0, 6-1. Craven blanked Alethea Banerjee, 6-0, 6-0. Peter Sandritter topped Lindsey Jones, 6-1, 6-2. Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse out-scored Ben Bilinski and Brady Knutson, 6-1, 6-1. LaMoreaux and Simmons won against Isobella Banerjee and Malayna Martin, 6-1, 6-3. Kathleen Clifford and Enkang Lin topped Damian Dingman and Aryssa Meyers, 6-0, 6-0. The Watkins team beat Thomas A. Edison, Monday, April 22. The final score was 6-1. Dylan Morse won against Nate Amberg, 6-1, 6-3. Craven topped Ben Doland, 6-0, 6-0. Sandritter defeated Maren Lutz, 6-4, 6-1. In doubles, Cantieni and Morse beat James Heraghty and Nick Kennison, 6-0, 6-0. LaMoreaux and Simmons topped Sage Elliott and Peighton MacLaury, 6-1, 6-2. Clifford and Lin won against Nick Overstrom and Brady Reed, 6-1, 6-0. Lacrosse Watkins' varsity lacrosse team fell to Chenango Valley, Wednesday, April 24. The final score was 20-3. Avery Watson netted two goals. Joe Chedzoy scored one. Golf The Watkins Glen varsity golf team topped Odessa-Montour, 285-286, Monday, April 22. Georgio Fazzary led with a 45. Daniel Ely shot a 54. Ethan Cary had a 57, followed by Jonathan Wickham with a 63. Andrew Hayes posted a 66. Softball Watkins' varsity softball team fell to Newark Valley, 19-4, Wednesday, April 24. The Senecas scored all four runs in the fifth inning.
Dundee hosts two track meets; softball team wins DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity track and field teams hosted two home meets Tuesday and Wednesday, last week. Wednesday winners for Dundee included: Boys: Preston Cratsley (100 meter dash, 11.98; triple jump 36' 0.5"), Steven Webster (800 meter run, 2:27.39), Matt Wood (1600 meter run, 4:47.10), Josh Cramer (400 meter hurdles, 1:04.56), Gabe Kirkendall (high jump, 5' 4"), Paul Knapp (pole vault, 8' 3") and Preston Cole (shot put, 42' 7.25"). The 4x100 and 4x400 relays also won. Girls: Ella Pollack (100 meter hurdles, 24.22; high jump, 4' 5") and Lily Hall (long jump, 15'; triple jump 35' 7"). Tuesday, April 23, Nic Laursen was first in the 100 meter dash (12.52) and Matt Wood won the 1600 meter run (4:44.65) and 800 meter run (2:10.33). Cole placed first in the shot put (41'11"). Leif Hoyt was first in the discus (129'1"). For the girls, Lily Hall took first in the triple jump (35'9.25") and first in the long jump (15'10.25"). The triple jump number set a new Dundee Central School record. Melina Everetts was first in the pole vault (6'3"). Hallie Knapp was first in the discus throw (83'10"). Softball The Dundee varsity softball team beat Bloomfield, 7-6, Thursday, April 25. Mercedez Roy was 3-for-4, with four RBIs. Claudya Lyons was 2-for-3. On the pitcher's mound, Megan Sutherland struck out four batters. The Lady Scots defeated Harley Allendale Columbia, Tuesday, April 23. The final score was 14-5. Hallie Empson was 4-for-5. Abby Miller was 2-for-3, at the plate. Mackenzie Strait posted three RBIs. Baseball The Dundee varsity baseball team lost to South Seneca, Wednesday, April 24. The final score was 14-3. The Scots scored runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Penn Yan girls lacrosse loses one, wins two games ROCHESTER--The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team lost to Aquinas, 14-12, Saturday, April 27. No individual stats were provided. The Lady Mustangs beat Geneva, Friday, April 26. The final score was 13-3. Hayley Andersen posted two goals and two assists. Grace Ledgerwood and Alison Winslow also had two goals and one assist. Reilly Cohick, Kaley Griffin, and Sydney Hulse each scored twice. Jammie Decker added one goal, while Bre Lane-Tomion had one assist. Alexandra Cox had eight saves in the goal. Penn Yan notched another win against Marcus Whitman, 10-5, Thursday, April 25. Andersen, Avery Castner, Ledgerwood, and Winslow all scored two goals. Andersen, Castner, and Ledgerwood had three, two, and one assists respectively. Griffin had one goal and one assist. Cohick posted one goal. Hulse assisted once. Cox made eight saves in the game. Boys lacrosse The Mustangs' boys varsity lacrosse team topped Eden, 14-0, in a non-league game, Saturday, April 27. Conner Fingar posted four goals and two assists. Devon Gerhardt had three goals and four assists. Chase Blumbergs and Ayden Mowry both scored two goals and had one assist. Clay Kinyoun scored twice. Mekhi Mahan posted one goal and one assist, while Bryan Duran assisted once. In the goal, Jeff Kinyoun had three saves. Penn Yan beat Bath, 17-4, Thursday, April 25. Gerhardt led with five goals and two assists. Mahan scored four goals. Mowry, Colton Smith, and Clay Kinyoun each had two goals. Mowry and Smith had two and one assists respectively. Carter Earl posted one goal and one assist, while Eli Moon scored once. Fingar and Blumbergs each assisted once. Goalies Jeff Kinyoun and Griffin Emerson both had three saves. Baseball The Penn Yan varsity baseball team fell to Wayne, 3-1, Thursday, April 25. Peyton Schuck posted two hits. Mason MacKerchar was 1-for-3, with an RBI. Clark Simmons also went 1-for-4, while Tyler Bouchard was 1-for-1. Brennan Prather recorded five strikeouts on the mound. The Mustangs lost to Palmyra-Macedon, Tuesday, April 23. Oni Sheradin recorded a fly ball double play with a tag out at first, as well as one RBI. Serina Sheradin and Taylor Hight each had an RBI. Penn Yan topped Palmyra-Macedon, 11-9, Tuesday, April 23. Serina Sheradin posted two doubles. Taylor Hight added a triple. Pitching, Kayla Andersen earned nine strikeouts. Tennis The Penn Yan varsity tennis team beat Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport, Wednesday, April 24. The final score was 3-2. Max Baker won by forfeit in singles. Jeremy Fenton and Reid Castner won, 6-0, 6-2. Brian Hollister and Spencer Christensen recorded 6-1, 6-2 wins. The Mustangs lost to Palmyra-Macedon, 4-1, Monday, April 22. Lukas Spears had the Mustangs' sole win in singles, beating Michael Bergfjord, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. The losing scores were: Cole Egburtson, 6-1, 6-2; and Hollister, 6-3, 7-6(7-4). In doubles, Castner and Fenton lost, 6-1, 6-0. Connor Hunter and Christensen were beaten, 6-1, 6-4. Track and field The Penn Yan track and field teams competed at the Wayne Invitational, Friday, April 26. The girls placed ninth and the boys 10th. Alexxis Henry won first in the pentathlon high jump (4'4"), third in the pentathlon 800 meter run (3:20.30), third in the pentathlon long jump (12'6"), and fourth in the pentathlon overall. Jaina Doyle placed seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase (9:43.44). Rachel Wheeler took eighth in the 800 meter run (3:08.34). Alora Bailey was 10th in the shot put (18'8.75"). Dominic Lafferty placed third in the pentathlon shot put (30'7.75"), fourth in the pentathlon 1500 meter run (5:31.27), fourth in the pentathlon 110 meter hurdles (20.18), fourth in the pentathlon high jump (4'7"), fourth in the pentathlon long jump (15'3.25"), and fourth in the pentathlon overall. Izayah Dillon finished eighth in the long jump (13'8.5"). Penn Yan also competed at Dundee, Wednesday, April 24. Recording wins were David Young in the 3,200 meter run 11:49.06 and Joddie Decker in the 400 (1:08.07) and 800 (2:45.67) meter run. The girls 4x400 meter relay team also placed first.
Hammondsport competes at Bath invite BATH--The Hammondsport varsity track and field team competed in the Ferd Stenta Invitational in Bath, Friday, April 26. For the boys, Thomas Kressly won first in the 3200 meter run (10:49.45) and second in the 1600 meter run (4:59.07). Jake Doyle finished 11th in the 400 meter run (1:04.39) and 14th in the 800 meter run (2:27.89). Nevin Davis took 11th in the 100 meter dash (12.69). Lane Simpson placed 13th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:15.50). Joey Miller was 13th in the long jump (16'6.5"). Eli Hill was 14th in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:17.65). For the girls, Aubrie Cole took sixth in the 3000 meter run (13:00.02), sixth in the 1500 meter run (5:59.71), and eighth in the high jump (3'10"). Hannah Hoerter placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:22.79). Ana Salom finished 15th in the shot put (22'6"). Softball The Bradford/Hammondsport varsity softball team notched a win against Lima Christian, Saturday, April 27. The final score was 20-5. With the win, the combined team's record is 5-3. Bradford/Hammondsport fell to Addison in an away game, Friday, April 26. The final score was 18-15. Tennis The Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport varsity tennis team lost to Naples, 4-1, Thursday, April 25. Colin Drain beat Luke Didion, 6-4, 6-1, for the team's only win. The combined tennis team lost to Penn Yan, 3-2, Wednesday, April 24. Both wins were in singles. Drain topped Lukas Spears, 6-0, 6-1. Nolan Randall won against Cole Egburtson, 7-5, 6-1. Golf The Hammondsport varsity golf team beat Canisteo-Greenwood, Wednesday, April 24. Parker Watson led with a 44. Matthew Cole added a 48, while Noah Wilkinson had a 50. Nigel Snyder recorded a 52. Gavyn Hann had a 54. The Lakers beat Campbell-Savona, Tuesday, April 23. Watson shot a 39. Hann posted a 45, followed by Wilkinson with a 50. Snyder had a 56. Gavin Ruddy added a 61.
