SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10-30-19

Soccer advances to semifinal; Prather sets mark
PENN YAN--The Lady Mustangs advanced to the Section V Class B2 semifinals by beating North Rose-Wolcott in overtime, 2-1, Friday, Oct. 25. Penn Yan is scheduled to play LeRoy, Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Sierra Harrison and Hayley Andersen both scored for Penn Yan. Hayley Andersen and Morgan Andersen each assisted once. In goal, Elle Harrison posted four saves.
Boys soccer
Penn Yan's boys varsity soccer team was beaten by Palmyra-Macedon, 4-0, in the Section V Class B1 quarterfinals, Saturday, Oct. 26. Pal-Mac was the number one seed, while Penn Yan was seeded eighth.
The Mustangs blanked Dansville, 2-0, in the first round of sectionals, Wednesday, Oct. 23. Zack Townley and Brigham Hansen both scored. Tyler Griffin and Nicholas Jarecke assisted each respectively. In goal, Mason MacKerchar had six saves.
Football
The Penn Yan varsity football team lost to Attica in the Section V Class C quarterfinals, Friday, Oct. 25. The final score was 41-20.
Mekhi Mahan was 21-for-27 passing, for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
Brennan Prather had 13 receptions for 137 yards, and two touchdowns.
Coach Timothy McBride reports, "With two touchdowns on Friday night, Prather has become the number two point scorer in Penn Yan football history with 179 points. He only trails Morris Collins (221 points) who played his senior season in 1970. He passed Tony Collins and Chris Chrissey (two NFL players who had 176 points each) just Friday night. I think this is very special because Brennan was able to achieve this through consistency over the last three years. We're very proud of him."
Kyler Lloyd added 51 yards on eight receptions.
Mahan also rushed for 75 yards on 29 carries. Damien Snyder carried twice for 65 yards and one touchdown. Prather added 27 yards rushing.
On defense, Prather posted seven tackles. Snyder had five tackles. Jakson Jones, Hunter Van Housen, and Mahan all recorded fumble recoveries.
Tennis
Molly and Claire Pullen advanced to the Section V state qualifier quarterfinals, Friday, Oct. 25.
In the second day of qualifiers, the Pullens lost to the Section V number one doubles seed from Pittsford Sutherland, Josie Libby and Gwenneth Mattia. The final scores were 6-1, 6-1.
"Getting all the way to the quarterfinals was an amazing accomplishment and playing as well as they did against such a tough opponent was great to see," said Coach Nate Kraemer.
On the first day of the state qualifier, Wednesday, Oct. 25, Molly and Claire Pullen notched two wins. The Pullens topped the Class C2 champions from Prattsburgh Susie Moore and Kendra Pinckney, 6-0, 6-0. The Pullens also beat Mercy's Tessa Hartzell and Alanna Jordan, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, in the first round.
Cross country
The Penn Yan boys and girls varsity cross country teams were 10th and 13th respectively at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Saturday, Oct. 26.
For the boys, James Tette was 12th (18:12). Ayden Mowry placed 14th (18:22), while David Young took 17th (18:27). Teagan Finger finished 91st (20:57). Anthony Condella was 108th (21:58), followed by Dominic Lafferty in 109th (21:59).
Joddie Decker led the girls in second place overall (20:05). Jaina Doyle was 20th (22:16). Abigail Bodine took 68th (25:24), followed by Adriana Rodriquez in 92nd (27:48). Serenity Rogers finished 95th (28:18).
Golf
The Mustangs' varsity golf team beat Harley Allendale Columbia and Mynderse in the Finger Lakes third automatic qualifier, Friday, Oct. 25. Penn Yan scored 225, to the Harley's 251 and Mynderse's 290. All three teams had earned second place in their respective divisions.
Max Brodmann was the overall medalist with a 41. Clayton Koivuniemi posted a 44, followed by Peter Nicholson with a 45. Clark Simmons golfed a 47. Kevin Smith added a 48.

Dundee falls to Frewsburg, 60-34
FREWSBURG--Dundee's varsity football team lost to Frewsburg, 60-34, Friday, Oct. 25.
Brady Richardson was 8-for-11 passing, earning 67 yards and three touchdowns. Richardson also carried 73 yards for one touchdown. Joshua Cramer had 21 carries for 86 yards. Cramer also earned 50 yards on four returns.
Blake Machuga, Kaden LaBar and Nick Slavick all caught passes for a touchdown.
The Scots fell to Maple Grove, Saturday, Oct. 19. The final score was 54-6.
Cramer led with 116 yards over 18 carries and the team's one touchdown. He added 21 yards on two returns. Richardson added 14 carries for 64 yards. Kenneth Empson Jr. caught two passes for 58 yards.
Cross country
Dundee's boys varsity cross country runners competed in the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Saturday, Oct. 26.
Matt Wood led the team in 11th place (18:11). Logan Buchanan finished 104th (21:33). Camden Buchanan was 123rd (22:51). Michael Eaves placed 133rd (29:03).
Girls soccer
The Dundee girls varsity soccer team lost to Geneseo in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 tournament, Tuesday, Oct. 22. The final score was 7-0.
Boys soccer
The Watkins/Dundee boys varsity soccer team fell to Newark Valley, Wednesday, Oct. 23. The final score was 2-1.
Issac McIlroy scored for the team. In goal, Bryce Kelley earned 10 saves.
"We played a great game, competitive for 80 minutes," said Coach Nils Watson. "At no time did the other team feel the game was over. We kept shots coming the entire second half. Just couldn't connect."
Clay Target
The Dundee trap team finished in first place and won the championship in Conference 1 with a great performance this season.
Hunter Crofoot finished sixth in the state, and along with Thomas Grady III and Nolan Dillon were ranked second, third, and sixth respectively.
Kali Sutherland, was ranked ninth for female shooters in the conference.

Lakers prepare for sectionals
HAMMONDSPORT--The number one seeded Hammondsport varsity volleyball team will face-off against Houghton Academy or Honeoye in the quarterfinal round of sectionals, Saturday, Nov. 2. The semifinal round is played Nov. 6 and the finals, Nov. 8.
Girls soccer
The Hammondsport/Bradford varsity girls soccer team fell to Alfred-Almond in the Section V Class D1 quarterfinals, Saturday, Oct. 26. The final score was 2-0. With the loss, the combined soccer team ends the season with a 9-8 record.
Boys soccer
The Lakers' boys varsity soccer team ended the season with a loss to Honeoye in the opening round of Section V Class D1 brackets, Tuesday, Oct. 22. The final score was 3-0.

Watkins Glen girls swimming captures IAC title
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity swim team won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) championship, Saturday, Oct. 26.
The 200 yard medley relay team (Peighton Cervoni, Faye Mooney, Amanda Wilbur, and Thalia Marquez) finished first in 1:58.04. The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Marquez, Wilbur, Mooney, and Cervoni) was second with 3:58.15.
Mooney won first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.72). Maria Brubaker was first in diving, while Ali LaMoreaux followed in second. Wilbur took second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:26.07) and second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:51.48).
Cervoni was second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.94) and third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.75). Marquez finished third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.51) and third in the 100 yard freestyle (58.32). Sarah Swinnerton placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.46).
Girls soccer
The Senecas' girls varsity soccer team topped Moravia, 7-1, to finish the regular season, Monday, Oct. 21.
Abby Gibson led with three goals and one assist. Carly Arnold earned two goals. Adrie Solomon posted one goal and assisted twice, while Jenna Solomon also scored once. Briana Hayes earned one assist. In goal, Lilly Ameigh had seven saves.

The Senecas' boys varsity soccer team fell to Newark Valley, Wednesday, Oct. 23. The final score was 2-1.

Seneca Indians top Dryden; swimmers compete at IAC
DRYDEN--The Seneca Indians varsity football team used their ground game to beat Dryden, 34-6, Friday, Oct. 25.
The combined Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour earned 326 yards rushing, with no passing yards. Owen Scholtisek posted 183 yards over 14 carries with two touchdowns. Travon Jones carried 20 times for 124 yards and one touchdown. Hunter Holley added 30 yards on two carries for one touchdown. Dominick Fazzary had five carries for 11 yards and one touchdown.
The football team will now travel to face Susquehanna Valley, Saturday, Nov. 2. The sectional game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Girls swimming
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team finished seventh at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) championship, Saturday, Oct. 26.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Kara Reese, Katie Adams, Megan Adams, and Madison Moss) placed sixth in 4:20.98. The 200 yard medley relay team (Megan Adams, Moss, Katie Adams, and Kara Reese) finished fifth with a time of 2:11.20.
Moss finished fifth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:13.22) and sixth in the 100 yard butterfly (1:11.13). Kara Reese was seventh in the 100 yard backstroke (1:13.79) and seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.32).
Megan Adams took ninth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.60) and ninth in the 100 yard freestyle (1:06.74). Reagan Reese was 10th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:32.45). Katie Adams took 10th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:16.68).
Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour varsity volleyball team fell to Newark Valley, 3-0, Monday, Oct. 21.
Rhys Stermer posted four service points, three aces, three kills, six blocks, and one dig. Sam Sipes earned four service points, one ace, one assist, and one dig. Karlee Dudgeon added three service points, two aces, and five digs. Jolynn Minnier contributed two service points, one ace, and one dig..
