Decker competes at state finals Penn Yan's Joddie Decker competed at the New York state Class C girls championship held at SUNY Plattsburgh, Saturday, Nov. 16. Decker finished 25th out of 128 runners in Class C. She posted a time of 18:22.9. Decker was also the fastest runner of all 11 Section V female athletes competing.
Hammondsport concludes fall sports season CANANDAIGUA--The Hammondsport varsity volleyball team lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia in the Class D regional playoffs, Thursday, Nov. 14. The final scores were 13-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16. Harley was the Class D2 champion. Brianna Pratt had three service aces and 32 setter assists. Julia Bennett recorded 15 kills followed by Angela Gonzo with 10. "These girls should be proud of themselves," said coach Erica Webster. "This team went further than any volleyball team from Hammondsport has since the 1980's." The Lakers, Class D3 champions, topped the Class D1 Champions Bloomfield in the first round of regionals, Tuesday, Nov. 12. The final scores were 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25, 25-21. Pratt and Bailey Fletcher each led with three aces at the service line. Bennett, Erika Hilligus and Gonzo had 10, eight, and seven kills respectively. Cross country The Lakers' Thomas Kressly competed at the New York state Class D championships, Saturday, Nov. 16. Kressly finished 17th of 114 runners in his class, with a time of 15:55.6. He was recognized as a medalist for finishing in the top 20. The senior was also given the Section V Class D/DD sportsmanship award for his character throughout the season.
Watkins runners compete at state meet The Watkins Glen boys varsity cross country team took seventh at the New York state Class C championships held at SUNY Plattsburgh, Saturday, Nov. 16. Gabe Planty led in sixth place (15:00.9) individually. Sam Thorsland finished in 48th (16:17.6). Max Evans took 68th (16:36.3). Steven Gublo was 119th (17:48.1), followed by Benjamin Swinnerton in 120th (17:48.2). Lawrence Majors placed 128th (18:25.5) and Elliott Holland was 129th (18:33.6).
