Penn Yan boys basketball splits pair; girls win two ROCHESTER--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team fell to Vertus, 59-56, Saturday, Dec. 7. Devon Gerhardt led with 17 points, including a trio of three-point shots. Kyle Berna posted 13 points. Mason Kuver scored 12 points. Peter Nicholson had five points, while Brennan Prather added four points. David DeSorbo scored three. The Mustangs topped Rochester Prep, 44-25, Thursday, Dec. 5. Prather posted 13 points. Dominic Lafferty added 10. Nicholson earned eight, followed by Kuver with seven points. DeSorbo and Gerhardt each scored three points. Bowling The Penn Yan boys and girls varsity bowling teams both defeated Naples, 5-0, Thursday, Dec. 5. Zach Gurba led the boys with a 535. Cameron Bassage and Jon Mashewske both scored a 501. For the girls, Andy Kniffin earned a 501. Brandee Ellis followed with a 429. Anella Tillman posted a 415. Girls basketball The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team defeated Marcus Whitman, 51-34, Friday, Dec. 6. Sierra Harrison posted 20 points, five steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Jammie Decker scored 10 points, with eight rebounds and five assists. Ashley Sisson added eight points and six rebounds. Jenna Curbeau earned six points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Sam Lane-Tomion posted five points. The Lady Mustangs topped Pittsford Sutherland, Tuesday, Dec. 3. The final score was 49-41. Sisson led with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Curbeau added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Harrison posted seven points and three rebounds, while Jammie Decker had six points and 14 rebounds. Hayley Andersen and Joddie Decker both also scored six points. Wrestling The Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan varsity wrestling team lost to Palmyra-Macedon, 56-21, Thursday, Dec. 5. Ayden Mowry (126) beat Aiden Gales by decision, 8-2. Evan Gray (132) defeated Jan Simunic. Jayden Reid (138) won against Dylan Dollar. Justin Smith (170) beat Rory Sloan.
Dundee boys fall to Hammondsport; girls win HAMMONDSPORT--The Dundee boys varsity basketball team fell to Hammondsport, Wednesday, Dec. 4. The final score was 57-56. The Scots held the lead until the last two seconds of the game, when Hammondsport scored to take the lead. Logan Salvatore posted 14 points. Dundee lost to Avoca in a home game, Tuesday, Dec. 3. The final score was 77-40. Girls basketball The Lady Scots varsity basketball team earned their first win of the season, Tuesday, Dec. 3, against Twin Tiers. The final score was 44-35. Hallie Knapp had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Makenzie Cratsley added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Bowling The Dundee boys and girls varsity bowling teams both lost to Newark, 5-0, Thursday, Dec. 5. Stephen Smith led the boys with a 514. Bryan Merrill bowled a 363, followed by Aaron Ayers with a 354. Aaron Bruzda posted a 315. For the girls, Kayla Andrews scored a 419. Cassie Morrissette added a 403. Sam Hunt posted a 388. Edele Morgan followed with a 384. Both the boys and girls bowling teams beat Naples, 4-1, Tuesday, Dec. 3. For the boys, Smith posted a 536. Bruzda contributed a 398. States earned a 391, while Keech had a 375. Merrill added a 318. On the girls' team, Andrews bowled a 482. Morrissette followed with a 405. Claudya Lyons added 346.
Lakers win one, lose one AVOCA--The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team lost to Avoca, 67-42, Friday, Dec. 6. Hunter Ball scored 12 points for the Lakers. Hammondsport beat Dundee, 57-56, Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Lakers trailed the Scots until the end of the game, scoring in the last two seconds to take the lead. The high scorer for Hammondsport was Zak Davis with 23 points. Girls basketball The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team defeated Scio 47-11, Friday, Dec. 6. Individual stats were not available.
Odessa girls win two games; wrestling tops Lansing ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team defeated Southern Cayuga, Friday, Dec. 6. Odessa won 47-37, with Kara Reese scoring 14 points. Sara Gardner added 12 points and Grace Vondracek 10. The girls team topped Tioga, Tuesday, Dec. 3. The final score was 59-42. Gardner posted 16 points and five assists. Vondracek had 14 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and four blocks. Jessica Carnes earned 10 points and five rebounds. Reese contributed nine points and five steals, while JoLynn Minnier added six points and 15 rebounds. Ida Sidle and Autumn Garrison both scored two points. "A good way to start for us," said Coach Greg Gavich. "We played hard and created a lot of offense with our defense." Boys basketball The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Southern Cayuga, Friday, Dec. 6. The final score was 69-55. No additional stats were reported. Boys swimming The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team defeated Greene, 54-39, in a home meet, Friday, Dec. 6. Jacob Mayette took first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:39.38) and first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.28). Brett Walters was first in the 50 yard freestyle (24.59) and first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.58). Micah Brewster was first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:13.34). Brock Sgrecci placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:18.35). The Indians won against Watkins Glen, Tuesday, Dec. 3. The final score was 111-53. Mayette placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (25.66) and first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.70). Watkins Glen girls beat Lansing; swimming falls WATKINS GLEN--Watkins' girls varsity basketball team beat Lansing, 47-21, Friday, Dec. 6. Abby Gibson, Adrienna Solomon, and Aislinn Klemann each scored eight points. Gibson also earned two rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Solomon added three rebounds, two assists, and one block. Klemann had one rebound. Natalie Edmister posted seven points, two rebounds, one steal, and one block. Carly Arnold also contributed seven points and six rebounds. The Senecas topped Dryden, 43-14, in an away game, Tuesday, Dec. 3. Solomon, Arnold, and Edmister each scored seven points. Solomon also earned two rebounds, one assist, and one block. Arnold had a pair of three-point shots, one rebound, and one steal. Edmister posted four rebounds. Gibson, Kelsey Kernan, and Jenna Solomon all scored four points.
