Yates reports unofficial election results
YATES COUNTY--More than 78 percent of county residents voted in the presidential and local election, Tuesday, Nov. 3. According to the unofficial results, county voters largely backed republican candidates and passed both propositions for changes in government. Proposition one, which increases the term of the elected legislators from two to four years, while staggering the election cycle, unofficially passed 4,399-3,695. The second proposition unofficially passed 4,299-3,606 and allows the legislature to appoint a director of finance and diminishes the responsibilities of the elected county treasurer. According to a notice posted by the board of elections, early voters at the county office building amounted to 3,011. These votes were part of the 8,840 votes reported after the close of polls on election day. There were 2,090 absentee ballots sent and 1,769 received back. Another 104 voters have cast affidavits. "Absentee and affidavit ballots can be counted as soon as the state board of elections finishes a statewide comparison of voters who cast ballots in person at early voting or on election day, in absentee, or by affidavit, but not before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11," said the Nov. 5 update. In the other races on the ballot, unofficially, Donald Trump and Michael Pence received 5,552 votes to Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris' 3,046. While the national results of the presidential race are not yet certified, all major news outlets have projected Biden and Harris as the winner of the race based on a statistical analysis of the votes already counted compared to the outstanding totals. President Trump has disputed those projections. For the congressional race, Tom Reed unofficially topped Tracy Mitrano 5,673-2,901. Thomas O'Mara received 5,764 votes to Leslie Danks Burke's 2,660 in the state senate race. For the Jerusalem town council position, Ritchie Lent leads K Dixon Zorovich 1,086-533.
