FINGER LAKES--Area public health departments provided a number of updates about the COVID-19 pandemic vaccine response, Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2. Both medical and non-medical volunteers are requested by the department to assist at COVID-19 vaccine clinics. Volunteers can register online at https://apps.health.ny.gov/pub/servny/ or by calling 315-536-5160 or 607-535-8140. Yates County Public Health is also expecting to receive some 300 doses of the vaccine this week. The breakdown includes: 100 doses for the essential 1B workforce group, 100 doses for adults with underlying eligible medical conditions and new this week, 100 doses of vaccine for only Yates County residents who are 65 and up. Previously, the 65 and up cohort was primarily being handled by pharmacies. All vaccine appointments require preregistration at this time. Links can be found on the Yates County Public Health Facebook page and www.yatescountypublichealth.org. Schuyler County Public Health received some 200 doses of the vaccine this week. Anyone who is currently eligible - including adults 65 and up, Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), adults with qualifying medical conditions, and certain types of essential workers - could sign up for Wednesday's clinic.
