SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-15-21
Penn Yan-Dundee Football The Penn Yan-Dundee football team defeated Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry at Dundee, Saturday, Sept. 11. The final score was 22-14. Quarterback Carter Earl was 9-for-17 passing with 133 yards and one touchdown. He also ran 17 times for another 49 yards with a touchdown. Nick Slavick added 37 yards on 11 attempts with a touchdown. Kaden LaBar had seven carries for 41 yards. John Bell caught five passes to record 79 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Slavick led the team with 14 tackles and three sacks. Alex Foster added eight tackles and one sack, while Ashtian Dunning and Mason Petersen each had six tackles. Bell, Tyler Bouchard, Gabe Hopkins and Earl also had five tackles apiece.
Dundee Cross Country The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Red Jacket, Saturday, Sept. 11. For the boys, Camden Buchanan was 64th with a 20:07. Camden Rosemier was 76th in 20:26. In the girls race, Alissa Eaves took 92nd with a 25:47 and Cheyanne Grandall was 107th in 27:09.
Dundee-Bradford Boys Soccer The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team defeated Marcus Whitman, Thursday, Sept. 9. The final score was 1-0 with Logan Ayers scoring.
Dundee-Bradford Girls Soccer The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team won against South Seneca, Friday, Sept. 10. In the 3-0 game, Kendall Parker scored twice and Madison Hughes once. Nicole Peterson had two assists and Korrin Yeoman one. Gabrielle Tobiassen-Aasli made five saves. The girls fell to Marcus Whitman, 6-2, Wednesday, Sept. 8. Scoring statistics were not available for the BraveScots. Tobiassen-Aasli made 12 saves.
Dundee-Bradford Volleyball The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team defeated Midlakes, Friday, Sept. 10. The match scores were 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15. The team also beat Bloomfield, Wednesday, Sept. 8. The game scores were 25-22, 26-24, 25-20. Carlie Baker had nine kills and four aces, Abby Miller followed up with four kills and two aces and Lily Hall had eight assists.
Penn Yan Cross Country The Penn Yan Cross Country team competed at the Oakfield-Alabama Dash in the Dark Relay Invitational, Friday, Sept. 10. The girls relay team consisting of Maddie Bishop, Giana Ficcaglia and Eva Culver took first place in the blue team division of 28 schools. The boys ran ninth place in the gold team division of 28 schools. JD Tette ran the third-fastest overall split as did Bishop.
Penn Yan Golf The Penn Yan golf team lost to Naples 293-284, Thursday, Sept. 9. Cameron Bassage recorded a 46 in the match. The golfers were also beat by Waterloo, 241-222 on Tuesday. Griffin Emerson had a team-low 41.
Penn Yan Boys Soccer The Penn Yan boys soccer team ended with a 0-0 tie against Naples, Saturday, Sept. 11. Penn Yan had a penalty kick save by Thomas Barden. The team won in overtime against Pal-Mac, Thursday, Sept. 9. The only goal of the game was by Brigham Hansen. Barden made four saves. The soccer team also beat Mynderse 3-1, Tuesday, Sept. 7. Zack Townley, Riley Griffiths and Hansen each scored once. Owen Bishop had two assists. Barden recorded eight saves.
Penn Yan Girls Soccer The Penn Yan girls recorded two wins last week. On Saturday, Sept. 11, they defeated North Rose-Wolcott, 2-0. Sierra Harrison scored twice with assists from Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger and Kaley Griffin. Elle Harrison made two saves in goal. The soccer team beat Midlakes, 3-0, Wednesday, Sept. 8. Morgan Andersen made two goals and Sierra Harrison had the other. Harrison also assisted once. Elle Harrison made three saves in goal.
Penn Yan Tennis The Penn Yan tennis team lost to Avoca-Hammondsport-Prattsburgh, 3-2, Saturday, Sept. 11. Recording wins in the match was Abigail Garvey in singles (6-7(5-7), 6-1, 6-1) and Abby Bodine and Rayna Rios in doubles (6-4, 6-4). The tennis team also beat Marcus Whitman, 4-1, Thursday, Sept. 9. Winning for the Mustangs were Garvey (6-3, 6-0), Jayden Hollister (6-0, 6-0), Adelyn Emerson (6-0, 6-1) and Rachael Garvey and Anella Tillman (7-5, 6-4). The Mustangs also topped Wayne, 3-2, Tuesday, Sept. 7. Garvey, Hollister and Emerson all won their singles matches.
Penn Yan Volleyball The Penn Yan volleyball team lost to Bloomfield, 3-1, Friday, Sept. 10. The individual game scores were 15-25, 25-11, 11-25, 18-25. Kaeden Dailey had five aces, one kill and one assist in the game. The Mustangs also lost to Wayne, 3-1, Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Hammondsport Boys Soccer The Hammondsport boys soccer team lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, 3-0, Saturday, Sept. 11. The team also fell to Jasper-Troupsburg 2-1, Thursday, Sept. 9.
Hammondsport Girls Soccer The Hammondsport girls soccer team lost two games last week. On Friday, Sept. 10, they fell to Avoca/Prattsburgh 5-1. Hannah Hoerter scored the lone Lakers goal. Rorie Whitcomb made eight saves in the goal. The girls lost 2-0 to Canisteo-Greenwood on Wednesday. Whitcomb recorded five saves.
Hammondsport Volleyball The Hammondsport volleyball team lost to Canisteo-Greenwood 3-0, Friday, Sept. 10. Danielle Bennett had four aces and four kills in the game, while Seneca Boscoe had five aces. The girls also lost in four games to Arkport-Canaseraga on Wednesday. Holley Kolo recorded 20 points, eight aces and seven kills. Vivian Kenyon also had 20 points and 4 aces.
Avoca-Hammondsport-Prattsburgh Tennis The Avoca-Hammondsport-Prattsburgh tennis team defeated Penn Yan 3-2, Saturday, Sept. 11. Susie Moore, Camryn Moore and Mallory Patoine and Genevieve Dabby all had wins.
Seneca Indians Football The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour Seneca Indians football team defeated Chenango Valley, 35-12, Friday, Sept. 10. Travon Jones had 17 carries for 129 yards and two receptions for 16 yards in the game. He also scored two touchdowns. Owen Scholtisek added 10 carries for 69 yards and one reception for 38 yards. He also scored a touchdown. Dominick Fazzary and Thomas Snow also added touchdowns with eight carries for 46 yards and two carries for 38 yards, respectively. Quarterback Cameron Holland was 5-for-10 passing with 78 yards. He also ran eight times for 29 additional yards.
Watkins Glen Cross Country The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the Crusader Clash Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 11. Johnny VanScoyk and Aidan Maphis finished 11th and 12th in the boys race with times of 16:59.81 and 17:01.82. Dominic Gublo was 18th in 17:46.90. For the girls, Breanna Carl was seventh in 20:10.44. The team also hosted a home meet, Tuesday, Sept. 7. VanScoyk was 11th for the boys and Gublo was 12th. Carl was sixth for the girls.
Watkins Glen Boys Soccer The Watkins Glen boys soccer team lost to Marathon, 6-2, Friday, Sept. 10. Stoyan Bond and Liam Smith scored in the game. Goalkeeper Sebastian Gates made six saves. The soccer team fell to Trumansburg, 6-0, Tuesday, Sept. 7
Watkins Glen Girls Soccer The Watkins Glen girls soccer team beat Tioga 5-2, Friday, Sept. 10. Skye Honrath recorded three goals in the game. Katrina Ricca had one goal and one assist, while Julia Spahalski added one goal and Maddie Tuttle an assist. Goalie Lillian Ameigh made 10 saves. The soccer team lost to Newark Valley 5-0, Wednesday, Sept. 8. Ameigh made 12 saves.
Swimming The Watkins Glen-Odessa-Montour swimming team beat Whitney Point and Dryden, Tuesday, Sept. 7. Against Whitney Point, the winners included: the 200 medley relay team, Faye Mooney-200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Thalia Marquez-200 IM and 500 free, Kendra Fish-50 free, Emily Melveney-100 butterfly, Alannah Klemann-100 free and 100 back, the 200 free relay team and the 400 free relay team. Against Dryden, first-place finishers included: Mooney-200 free and 100 breaststroke, Marquez-200 IM and 500 free, Fish-50 free, Melveney-100 butterfly, Klemann-100 free and 100 back, the 200 free relay team and the 400 free relay team.
Watkins Glen Volleyball The Watkins Glen volleyball team fell to Newark Valley, Wednesday, Sept. 8. No statistics or game scores were provided for any match last week.
Odessa-Montour Girls Soccer The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team fell to Campbell-Savona, 2-1, Saturday, Sept. 11. The girls also lost to Waverly, 7-1, Wednesday, Sept. 8.
Odessa-Montour Volleyball The Odessa-Montour volleyball team fell to Waverly, 3-0, Tuesday, Sept. 7. Jade Baldwin had 10 service points, three kills and two aces. Kaylee Watson had six service points and two assists. Emma Landon added five service points and two kills.
