SPORTS RECAP: Week of 11-3-21
Penn Yan-Dundee Football The Penn Yan-Dundee football team opened in the sectional tournament against Haverling, Friday, Oct. 29. In a game that experienced constant heavy rain and slippery conditions, the third seeded Haverling Rams advanced in Class C with a 28-0 win. Penn Yan-Dundee was seeded sixth in sectionals and ends the season with a 4-4 record.
Dundee Cross Country The Dundee cross country team competed at the Wayne Finger Lakes League Championships, Saturday, Oct. 30. Alexander Leonard was 64th in 21:20. Camden Buchanan finished 84th in 22:07. Devon Grandall was 101st in 23:39 and Braedyn Fisher and Bryten Dunham were 114th and 115th respectively in 25:14 and 25:28. Lindsey Mosher was 92nd for the girls in 32:25.
Dundee-Bradford Boys Soccer The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team lost to Kendall, 1-0, in double overtime, Wednesday, Oct. 27. The boys were seeded second in Class C2.
Dundee-Bradford Volleyball The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team fell to Bolivar-Richburg in sectional play, Friday, Oct. 29. The final scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-16. The girls defeated Cuba-Rushford in the sectional pre-quarterfinals, 3-0, Wednesday, Oct. 27. Mikayla Schoffner had nine aces and six kills. Lily Hall added 13 assists and four kills, while Carlie Baker had four aces, four kills and one block. Tianna Strickland also contributed four aces.
Penn Yan Girls Soccer The Penn Yan girls soccer team fell to Haverling in the sectional final game for Class B2, Friday, Oct. 29. The final score was 2-0. To reach the finale the girls defeated Mynderse, 3-1, Tuesday, Oct. 26. Scoring for the Mustangs were Irelynd Densmore, Morgan Andersen and Rebecca Hayes. Assists were added by Andersen, Sierra Harrison and Densmore. Elle Harrison had six saves.
Penn Yan Boys Soccer The Penn Yan boys soccer team lost to Wayland-Cohocton, 1-0, in the sectional semifinal, Wednesday, Oct. 27. The lone goal of the game came in the second period by Titan Rocha in the 64th minute.
Penn Yan Volleyball The Penn Yan volleyball team will travel to Avon to take on LeRoy in the Section V semifinal game, Tuesday, Nov. 2. They reached that game by defeating World of Inquiry School, 3-0, Friday, Oct. 29. Game scores were 25-20, 25-15, 25-8. Jammie Decker contributed two aces, seven kills, one assist and one block. Lauren Schilling had five aces. Paige Yonts added one ace and four kills.
Penn Yan Cross Country The Penn Yan cross country team competed at the Wayne Finger Lakes League Championships, Saturday, Oct. 30. For the boys, James Tette was second overall in 17:13. David Madorsky finished 76th in 21:47. Brevin Cummings was 112th in 25:11. For the girls, Elizabeth Shoff was 67th in 26:42. Giana Ficcaglia took 75th in 27:18, while Serenity Rodgers was 85th in 31:01.
Hammondsport Volleyball The Hammondsport volleyball team lost to Arkport-Canaseraga, 3-1, Friday, Oct. 29 in the sectional quarterfinals. Seneca Boscoe had two aces and six kills. Holley Kolo recorded four aces, six kills and three blocks. Leah Starkweather and Emily Starkweather each had three aces. The Lakers defeated Hinsdale in three sets 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, Wednesday, Oct. 27. Hammondsport was led by Kolo with five aces, seven kills, and three blocks. Emily Starkweather and Boscoe each had four aces. At the net Boscoe and Danielle Bennett each had three kills.
Seneca Indians Football The Seneca Indians varsity football team defeated Norwich, 28-6, Friday, Oct. 29. Travon Jones had three touchdowns in the game. He carried the ball 13 times for 104 yards and had seven receptions for 81 yards. Two touchdowns were through the air and one rushing. Jake Menzi also scored on one carry for eight yards. Owen Scholtisek rushed nine times for 21 yards and made one catch for seven yards. Dominick Fazzary recorded seven carries for eight yards and had two catches for 40 yards. Quarterback Cameron Holland was 9-for-11 passing with 129 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Thomas Snow made seven tackles. Holland recorded four and Menzi, Scholtisek and Bradley Gillis each had three.
Odessa-Montour Girls Soccer The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team lost to Schenevus in the Section IV semifinal game, Wednesday, Oct. 27. The final score was 9-2. Hannah Nolan scored both goals.
Watkins Glen Cross Country The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the IAC Championship, Thursday, Oct. 28. Aidan Maphis was 26th in 20:51.7. Dominic Gublo took 32th in 21:17.9. Jonathan Bond-Trimble finished 68th in 28:19.7. Breanna Carl was 17th in the girls race with a time of 24:53.9.
Watkins Glen Volleyball The Watkins Glen volleyball team fell to Waverly, 3-0, Tuesday, Oct. 26. Sarah Jones had 12 service points in the game and Chelsea Parsons recorded five service points, three aces and also five digs. The volleyball team also lost to Waverly on Monday in three games. Colby Thurston had six service points in the contest, while Ava Barber had five service points.
