SPORTS RECAP: Week of 11-10-21
Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Swimming The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour girls swimming team won the sectional title in Class C, Saturday, Nov. 6. The girls amassed 474 points in the competition, 100 more than second-place, Lansing. Finishing first were: the 200 yard medley relay team (Alannah Klemann, Faye Mooney, Emily Melveney and Thalia Marquez), Marquez (100 free and 200 free), Mooney (50 free and 100 breaststroke), the 200 free relay team (Mooney, Klemann, Malina Butler and Marquez) and Klemann (100 backstroke). Mooney was awarded the Outstanding Performer honor for the meet and qualified for states in the breaststroke. Klemann also qualified in the backstroke.
Seneca Indians Football The Seneca Indians football team fell to Chenango Forks, 39-14, Friday, Nov. 5. Quarterback Cameron Holland was 10-for-21 passing with 126 yards and one touchdown throw. Dominick Fazzary had seven carries for 75 yards and one rushing touchdown, a 62-yard run. Travon Jones ran eight times for 44 yards and made three catches for 27 yards. Owen Scholtisek recorded 14 yards on eight carries and had two catches for 23 yards. Bradley Gillis and Holland each made four tackles, while Fazzary made three.
Watkins Glen Cross Country The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the sectional championship, Thursday, Nov. 4. In Class C, Aidan Maphis was 31st in 19:22.7. Dominic Gublo took 52nd in 20:21.0 and Jonathan Bond-Trim was 87th in 27:50.7.
Penn Yan Cross Country Penn Yan's James Tette captured the sectional title for the boys cross country race in Class C, Saturday, Nov. 6 at Letchworth State Park. His time was 16:38.6, 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Also competing for Penn Yan were David Madorsky (34th, 20:32.2) and Brevin Cummings (78th, 24:02.9). For the girls, Elizabeth Shoff was 32nd in 24:23.3, Giana Ficcaglia took 38th in 24:35.3 and Madison Bishop was 68th in 28:47.3.
Penn Yan Volleyball The Penn Yan volleyball team lost in the semifinal round to LeRoy, Tuesday, Nov. 2. The game scores were 13-25, 12-25, 26-28. Number two seeded LeRoy ended up defeating Attica in the finale, to win the title for Class C.
Dundee Cross Country Dundee-Bradford's cross country runners competed at the Section V Class D race, Saturday, Nov. 6. Alexander Leonard was 66th in 20:57.8. Devon Grandall placed 102nd in 22:21.1. Bryten Dunham took 126th in 24:21.2 and Braedyn Fisher was 134th with a 25:30.5. Lindsey Mosher finished 100th in the girls race with a 28:17.7.
Hammondsport Cross Country Hammondsport traveled to Letchworth State Park to compete in the sectional final for Class D, Saturday, Nov. 6. Liam Kressly was ninth in 19:17.3. Blake Wright took 37th in 21:46.0. Chris Hill and Chase Von Rhedy were 66th and 68th in 26:30.4 and 32:55.8, respectively..
