SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-5-22
Dundee/Bradford Girls Basketball The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team defeated Newfield, 58-13, Tuesday, Dec. 28. Kendall Parker and Hallie Knapp each scored 16 points in the game. Knapp also added eight rebounds and two steals to be named an all-star of the Watkins Glen tournament. Kailey Yeoman added 10 points with eight steals and Jade Roussell had 11 rebounds. The girls lost their first game of the year to Homer at the Watkins Glen Melissa B. Wilson Memorial Tournament, Monday, Dec. 27. The final score was 60-37. Knapp led with 12 points and six rebounds. Yeoman and Parker each scored six points. The BraveScots won against Red Jacket, 67-41, Wednesday, Dec. 22. Knapp had 18 points and eight rebounds. Parker added 15 points with 10 assists and five rebounds. Yeoman scored nine points.
Boys Basketball The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team lost to Avoca/Prattsburgh, 92-64, Thursday, Dec. 30. The basketball team defeated Wayland-Cohocton 70-61, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Camden Rosemier scored 26 points and Logan Salvatore had 21. The team also beat Red Jacket 60-49, Wednesday, Dec. 22.
Wrestling The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team lost to Geneva, 42-36, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Connor Erick pinned Gianni Velazquez in 2:55; Hayden Erick pinned Devron Williams in 1:36 and Harvey Tongate beat Anya Bendziowicz with a pin in 0:54.
Indoor Track The Dundee-Bradford indoor track team competed at RIT, Tuesday, Dec. 28. Leading the boys was Camden Buchanan with a second-place finish in the long jump and an eighth place in the 55 meter dash. For the girls, Adalyn Tham was eighth in the 300 meter dash and Madison Hughes was seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump.
Penn Yan Boys Basketball The Penn Yan boys basketball team lost to Mynderse Academy 60-42, Thursday, Dec. 23. The team also fell to Newark 75-52, Tuesday, Dec. 21. Tanyon Dunning scored 13 points.
Girls Basketball The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Newark Valley 57-33, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Elle Harrison led with 14 points and Kaley Griffin had 12. The girls defeated Haverling 38-36, Tuesday, Dec. 28. Sierra Harrison scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs, while Elle Harrison had 10 and Jammie Decker six. The team also beat Newark 62-33, Wednesday, Dec. 22. Griffin recorded 17 points with seven rebounds. Elle Harrison had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Bowling The Penn Yan girls bowling team took the championship at the Newkirk tournament, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Andy Kniffin had the high series in the girls division one: 698; Anella Tillman recorded the second high game division one: 210; Lyanna Shipman had the second high game in division two: 160. The boys and girls bowling teams also shut out Midlakes, Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Brock's Bowl. For the boys Cameron Bassage had a 655. Trenton Samatulski followed with a 649 and Colin Johnson added a 647. For the girls, Kniffin recorded a 708, Tillman had a 582 and Julia Maldanado a 523.
Hammondsport Boys Basketball The Hammondsport boys basketball team fell to Andover/Whitesville, 55-43, Wednesday, Dec. 22.
Wrestling The Avoca-Hammondsport wrestling team lost to Bolivar-Richburg 45-6, Tuesday, Dec. 21. Justin Palmer pinned Phillip Mac Donell in 2:54.
Watkins Glen Girls Basketball The Watkins Glen girls basketball team fell to Homer in the championship game of the Melissa B. Wilson Memorial Tournament, 65-31, Tuesday, Dec. 28. Jenna Solomon scored 16 points and had three rebounds. Chelsea Parsons added five points and four rebounds. Solomon was also named to the tournament all-star team. The girls defeated Newfield, 60-16, to make it to the championship game, Monday, Dec. 27. Solomon netted 25 points while Rachel Vickio had 10 and Bailey Beaumont nine. The Watkins Glen girls lost a close game to Dryden, 32-31, Thursday, Dec. 23. Solomon scored 16 points and Parsons had nine.
Boys Basketball The Watkins Glen boys basketball team won the Holiday Tournament they hosted by beating Spencer-Van Etten 75-50, Thursday, Dec. 30. Adam Pastore led the team with 22 points. Cameron Holland scored 18 points. Pastore was named the most valuable player of the tournament and Owen Scholtisek made the all-star team. The Watkins boys defeated Windsor, 55-34, to reach the championship game, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Pastore again led with 23 points and Scholtisek had 11 points.
Boys Swimming The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour swimming team defeated Dryden, 83-45, Tuesday, Dec. 21. Finishing first were: the 200 medley relay team, Ben Campbell (200 free), Liam Smith (200 IM and 100 fly), Ben Swinnerton (100 free), Caleb Reynolds (500 free), the 200 free relay team and Alex Walters (100 back).
Odessa-Montour Boys Basketball The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Cowanesque Valley, 94-68, Thursday, Dec. 30. Cayden Confer scored 21 points. The boys basketball team fell to Addison, 58-48, Wednesday, Dec. 29. Confer netted 15 points. The Odessa boys lost to Spencer-Van Etten, 70-56, Thursday, Dec. 23. Keith June scored 16 points and Daniel Lewis had 15.
Girls Basketball The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Union Springs, Wednesday, Dec. 22. The final score was 61-30. Gina Gavich had the team-high nine points.
Wrestling The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen wrestling team competed at the Cody Dual Meet in Binghamton, Wednesday, Dec. 29. The team finished third. Lucas Hoffman was perfect on the day going 5-0 in the 102 division. The wrestling team lost to Marathon, 47-24, Wednesday, Dec. 22. Hoffman, Dominick Fazzary, Ethan King and Tristan Harrington all recorded pins in the match..
