SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-12-22
Dundee/Bradford Boys Basketball The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team defeated Romulus, 62-53, Friday, Jan. 7. The team's record improves to 6-2 with the win. Logan Salvatore lead the way with 18 points.
Wrestling The Dundee wrestling team competed at the Odessa Duals held in Watkins Glen, Saturday, Jan. 8. The team finished 3-1 on the day, matching Odessa and South Seneca. Odessa won on a tie-breaker. In the match against Odessa-Montour, competitive wins were recorded by Hayden Erick (pin in 1:14), Logan Snyder (pin in 2:35) and Kaden LaBar (major decision, 16-2).
Penn Yan Boys Basketball The Penn Yan boys basketball team fell to Geneva, 56-50, Friday, Jan. 7. Brigham Hansen recorded 15 points. Griffin Emerson had 14 and Tanyon Dunning, 11.
Girls Basketball The Penn Yan girls basketball team defeated Geneva, 76-13, Friday, Jan. 7. Sierra Harrison scored 15 points in the game and Kaley Griffin had 14. Hannah Parsons added 11 points and Jammie Decker had 10. Other points came from Hailey Trank (nine), Elle Harrison (eight), Maihue Miranda (six) and Lexy Smith (three).
Wrestling The Penn Yan wrestling team competed at the Port Byron Mid-Winter Wrestling Classic, Saturday, Jan. 8. Mason Peterson (285) finished first after beating Noah Wazinski by decision, 4-3, in the championship. Jacob Eaves (102) took third place with a win over Sam Bylor by a pin in 1:58. Reed Bouchard (285) was also third pinning Evin Rought in the consolation finals in 3:21. Alec Benson (189) took fourth with a loss in the consolations. Cullen Maher, David Young and Nick Murphy each finished in fifth place.
Hammondsport Boys Basketball The Hammondsport boys basketball team fell to Mount Morris, 68-46, Saturday, Jan. 8. The team also lost to Avoca/Prattsburgh, 95-28, Thursday, Jan. 6.
Girls Basketball The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team lost to Prattsburgh/Avoca, 48-39, Friday, Jan. 7. The Lakers beat Jasper-Troupsburg, 55-51, Wednesday, Jan. 5.
Wrestling The Avoca-Hammondsport wrestling team lost to Addison, 41-18, Tuesday, Jan. 4. Competitive wins were recorded by: Tristin Davis (pin in 3:53) and Justin Palmer (pin in 0:52).
Watkins Glen Boys Basketball The Watkins Glen boys basketball team beat Whitney Point, 54-38, Friday, Jan. 7. Owen Scholtisek scored 16 points and Joe Sutterby had 14. The boys basketball team scored a big victory over Lansing, Tuesday, Jan. 4. Watkins won by 10 points, 57-47. Mitchell Pike scored 14 points in the game. Cameron Holland and Jacob Yontz each had 13.
Girls Basketball The Watkins Glen girls basketball team won against Whitney Point, Friday, Jan. 7. The final score was 44-34. Both Rachel Vickio and Jenna Solomon recorded 16 points in the win. The girls fell to Thomas A Edison, 50-33, Thursday, Jan. 6. Bailey Beaumont recorded 12 points in the game.
Bowling The Watkins Glen bowling team split a pair against Notre Dame, Thursday, Jan. 6. The boys won and the girls lost. Mykel Cody had the high score for the boys with a 535, while Maisie Robertson led the girls with a 453.
Indoor track The Watkins Glen indoor track team traveled to SUNY Cortland to compete in the Winer Classic Friday, Jan. 7. Personal records were made by John Bond Trimble, Chris Stevens, Johnny VanScoyk, Isaac Hendrickson, Ethan Cary and Madison Tuttle.
Boys Swimming The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour swimming team hosted an invitational in Watkins, Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8. The team finished sixth with 199 points. Top finishers included: Ryan Dean (fourth-100 back), Liam Smith (sixth-200 free and seventh-500 free), Jon Spencer (sixth-50 free and seventh-100 free), Max Ricca (seventh-diving), the 200 free relay team (Spencer, Ben Swinnerton, Nick DeLong and Smith)-fourth and Ben Swinnerton (fifth-100 breaststroke).
Odessa-Montour Boys Basketball The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Tioga, Wednesday, Jan. 5. The final score was 67-25. Cayden Confer had 13 points.
Girls Basketball The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team fell to Groton, 47-29, Friday, Jan. 7. Brittany Cooper scored 11 points and Mackenzie Cannon had nine. The Odessa girls lost to Southern Cayuga, Tuesday, Jan. 4. The final score was 51-32. Cannon netted 18 points.
Wrestling The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen wrestling team finished first in the dual competition they hosted, Saturday, Jan. 8. The team finished with a 3-1 record and topped Dundee and South Seneca through a tiebreaker. The team beat Dundee 45-27, Spencer-Van Etten/Candor 36-30 and Thomas A Edison 54-15. The one loss was to South Seneca by a score of 41-30. Winning awards for Most Outstanding Wrestlers in their weight class were: Lucas Hoffman (102), Mark Waterman (138), and Ethan King (189). The wrestling team fell to Groton, 39-30, Wednesday, Jan. 5. All points for OMWG were won by forfeits.
