SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-19-22

Penn Yan
Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team beat World of Inquiry, Saturday, Jan. 15. The final score was 75-46. Griffin Emerson scored 21 points. Oliver Connelly had 15.
The boys also won over Wayne, 52-51, Friday, Jan. 14. Emerson led with 16 points. Tanyon Dunning and Connelly each added 11 points.
The Mustangs fell to Midlakes, 61-59, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Emerson netted 20 points and Connelly 19.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team recorded three wins last week.
The girls defeated Wayne, 41-20, Friday, Jan. 14. Sierra Harrison led with 17 points. Kaley Griffin added 10. Jammie Decker put up 16 rebounds with five points.
The Lady Mustangs topped Marcus Whitman 53-21, Wednesday, Jan. 12. Griffin led with 17 points and Harrison had 14.
The girls also won over South Seneca, Monday, Jan. 10. The final score was 66-22. Harrison scored 19 points, Griffin added 16 and Decker had 11 points with 10 rebounds.

Bowling
The Penn Yan boys bowling team won against Newark as the girls lost, Thursday, Jan. 13.
Leading the boys were Connor Anderson (649), Trenton Samatulski (642) and Cameron Bassage (641). Logan Miller added a 558 and Ben Broome had a 554.
For the girls, Andy Kniffen recorded a 595. Anella Tillman contributed a 533.
The bowling teams both won against Waterloo, Wednesday, Jan. 12. Bassage had an outstanding 757 three-game score with a 297 on the first series. Broome followed with a 592. The girls were led by Kniffen scoring a 576. Julia Maldanado added a 505.
The bowlers also faced Marcus Whitman last week. The boys won with Bassage recording a perfect 300 on the way to a 747 series. Broome shot a 268 game with a 648 series. The girls lost but Kniffen and Tillman led the way with 572 and 557, respectively.

Wrestling
The Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan wrestling team competed at the annual Robert Bradshaw Memorial Wrestling Tournament, Friday and Saturday last week.
Jacob Eaves (102) took fifth with a medical forfeit win over Kiernan Magee.
Avery Castner recorded a first-place finish with two pins over Izzy Raes of Midlakes.

Dundee/Bradford
Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team defeated Campbell-Savona, 64-61, Saturday, Jan. 15. Michael End led the team with 22 points and Logan Salvatore had 18 points. The BraveScots are now 8-2.
The boys also beat Naples, 91-55, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Salvatore recorded 45 points, setting a new record for a Bradford basketball player. He was one point shy of the Dundee record of 46.

Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team won against Marcus Whitman, 48-37, Friday, Jan. 14. Kailey Yeoman led with 16 points, while Hallie Knapp followed with 15 and nine rebounds. Jade Roussell added six points and six rebounds. Mikayla Schoffner also recorded eight rebounds.
The BraveScots easily topped Naples, Wednesday, Jan. 12. The final score was 49-7. Kendall Parker had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals. Knapp added 11 points with seven rebounds and five steals. Schoffner controlled the boards with 11 rebounds.

Bowling
The Dundee-Bradford girls bowling team defeated Romulus 5-0, Wednesday, Jan. 12. Jaedyn Brewer led with a 477. Other team scores included: Abby Miller (425), Cassie Morrissette (407), McKenna Miller (339) and Ellie Grant (294).
The boys fell 5-0. Cameron Burke led with a 450. Joe Nowicki added a 320.

Wrestling
The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team defeated Red Creek 48-30, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Recording competitive wins were Caden Hill (pin in 0:45), Shawn LaBar (pin in 1:01) and Travis Bailey (pin in 1:16).

Indoor Track
The indoor track team competed at RIT, Friday, Jan. 14.
For the boys, Camden Buchanan was seventh in the 55 meter dash (7.18). Michele Van Cleef took eighth in the 300 meter dash (40.15). Michael Freibus was eighth in the 600 meter run (1:44.86).
Lily Hall was third in the triple jump, 30' 9.5", for the girls. Madison Hughes was fifth in the triple jump, 30' 3.5". Adalyn Tham took sixth in the 300 meter dash (50.33).

Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport basketball team had two losses last week. The team fell to Campbell-Savona, 65-42, Wednesday, Jan. 12. The boys also lost, 66-28, to Canisteo-Greenwood, Monday, Jan. 10.

Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team defeated Campbell-Savona, 55-23, Thursday, Jan. 13. The team's record is now 6-4.

Wrestling
The Avoca-Hammondsport wrestling team finished 2-3 at the Steve Garland Memorial Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 15.
The team also competed and lost to Wellsville in a dual match, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Competitive wins were recorded by Nathan Young (major decision 16-4), George Drake (decision 13-11), Nevin Davis (pin 5:35) and Justin Palmer (pin 1:22).

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team topped Trumansburg, 68-41, Friday, Jan. 14. Four players, Owen Scholtisek, Jacob Yontz, Cameron Holland and Mitchell Pike each recorded 13 points.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team defeated Trumansburg, Friday, Jan. 14. The final score was 54-37. Jenna Solomon paced the team with 17 points. Molly Coolican added 12.
The Watkins Glen girls topped Candor, 42-21, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Rachel Vickio scored 15 points and Solomon had 11.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team fell to Marathon, Friday, Jan. 14. The final score was 58-50. Cayden Confer posted 16 points, while Keith June had 11.
The Odessa boys lost to Thomas A. Edison, Tuesday, Jan. 11. The final score was 56-39. June had 15 points in the game. Daniel Lewis recorded 10.

Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Marathon, 72-31, Friday, Jan. 14. Keyonna Garrison had 10 points and Gina Gavich added nine.
The girls fell to Thomas A. Edison, 46-33, Tuesday, Jan. 11. Garrison had the team-high 10 points. Hannah Nolan added nine points with 10 rebounds.

Wrestling
Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen's Lucas Hoffman finished second at the 46th annual Robert Bradshaw Memorial Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 15. Hoffman faced Ryan Ferrara from Chenango Forks and lost by a technical fall, 18-1, in the championship finals.
The wrestling team defeated Thomas A. Edison, 54-17, Wednesday, Jan. 12. Competitive wins were recorded by Lucas Barr (pin 1:50), Brandon Davis (pin 3:10), Gabe Williams (pin 4:31), Dominick Fazzary (pin 2:58), Jed Lynch (pin 2:21), Casey Keyes (pin 1:44) and Tristan Harrington (pin 3:11).
