SPORTS RECAP: Week of 3-9-22
Dundee/Bradford Girls Basketball The Dundee-Bradford girls varsity basketball team finished their season with a 21-2 record after a loss in the sectional finals, Saturday, March 5. The BraveScots faced York and fell 42-35. Kendall Parker led the team with 11 points and three rebounds. Hallie Knapp scored nine points with seven rebounds, while Jade Roussell put in seven points and six rebounds. Nikki Peterson scored five points with two steals, Kailey Yeoman added two points with two steals and Mikayla Schoffner had one point with seven rebounds. Trisha Edmister secured two rebounds. Parker and Knapp were selected for the all-tournament team after the game. The girls defeated Keshequa, 46-39, to advance to the finale, Tuesday, March 1. Parker scored 19 points, Knapp had nine and Yeoman eight.
Boys Basketball The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team ended their season with a 16-6 record after a loss to Caledonia-Mumford in sectionals, Monday, Feb. 28. The final score was 82-67. Cal-Mum was the second seed in Class C3 and the BraveScots were third.
Bowling The Dundee-Bradford girls bowling team competed at the sectional match, Wednesday, March 2. The team was fourth overall with 4,420 pins. Cassie Morrissette led the team with a six-game total of 1,008. Jaedyn Brewer had a 918 and Abby Miller recorded a 947.
Penn Yan Bowling The Penn Yan girls bowling team captured the Section V Class D title, Wednesday, March 2. The Mustangs team total over six games was 5,271, ahead of second-place Red Creek by 398 pins. Andy Kniffin led with a total of 1,291, including a 256 first game. Anella Tillman was next with 1203. Also contributing scores were Julia Maldonado (1,039), Lyanna Shipman (876) and Ameina Samatulski (862). The all-league selections were also announced last week. On the first team from Penn Yan: Cameron Bassage, Connor Andersen, Colin Johnson, Trenton Samatulski, Andy Kniffen and Anella Tillman. Second team: Dutcher Samatulski, Logan Miller and Julia Maldonado. Boys coach of the year: Mindy Johnson, Penn Yan.
Girls Basketball The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost a buzzer-beater game to Midlakes, Monday, Feb. 28. The final score was 47-45. The Mustangs were the fifth seed and Midlakes was first. Kaley Griffin was named to the all-tournament team for Class B2.
Watkins Glen Boys Basketball The Watkins Glen boys basketball team lost to Newfield in the semi-final round of the Section 4 Class C tournament, Wednesday, March 2. The game was at SUNY Cortland with a final score of 71-63. Mitchell Pike had 18 points, Owen Scholtisek 15 and Cameron Holland 13. Newfield went on to defeat Moravia for the sectional title on Saturday.
Odessa-Montour Girls Basketball The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Marathon in the sectional semi-final game of the Class D championship, Tuesday, March 1. The final score was 56-36. Keyonna Garrison and Gina Gavich both had 11 points.. Photo Courtesy of Section V Athletics
