SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-18-22
Dundee-Bradford Baseball The Dundee-Bradford baseball team lost to Naples, 9-5, Friday, May 13. The boys were also defeated by Red Jacket, 10-6, Thursday, May 12. The team won against South Seneca/Romulus, Tuesday, May 10. The final score was 16-6. Jeremy Stiles and Tyler Spina each had three RBIs in the game. Spina also recorded seven strikeouts on the mound for the BraveScots.
Softball The Dundee-Bradford softball team won against Red Jacket, 12-1, Thursday, May 12. The team also defeated South Seneca/Romulus, Tuesday, May 10. The final score was 18-2. The girls fell to Addison, 7-2, Monday, May 9. Individual stats were not available for these games.
Track and Field The Dundee-Bradford track team traveled to the South Seneca Invite, Friday, May 13. The girls were third overall and the boys were second. Leading the girls were: Hallie Knapp was first in the shot put (27' 5.5") and discus throw (90' 3"). Kendall Parker was first in the 100 meter dash (13.51), third in the 200 and third in the high jump. The 4x100 meter relay was first (53.15). Madison Hughes took first in the long jump (16' 7.5") and second in the high jump. Lily Hall finished second in the triple jump. For the boys: Logan Buchanan won the high jump (5' 10"). Hayden Erick took third in the high jump. Camden Buchanan was first in the triple jump (42' 3"), second in the 100 meter dash and second in the long jump. Alexander Leonard took third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The 4x100 meter relay team was second. Riley Teeter was second in the discus throw and third in the shot put.
Penn Yan Girls Lacrosse The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team defeated Aquinas, 10-9, Friday, May 13. Kaley Griffin and Bailey Cooper combined for eight of the team's goals, scoring four each. Adding goals were Corinne Barden and Avery Castner. Hannah Parsons made nine saves in the goal. The team easily won over Wayne, Wednesday, May 11. The final score was 13-1. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger scored three goals. Recording two goals were Ruby Berry, Bailey Cooper and Jammie Decker. Goalie Parsons made one save and also scored once. The Mustangs fell to Corning, 12-8, Monday, May 9. Cooper had two goals and three assists in the game. Gianna Voigt also recorded two goals.
Boys Lacrosse The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team lost to Clarence, 8-6, Saturday, May 14. Teagen Fingar led with four goals. Caden Dixon had one goal and one assist, while Braden Fingar also added a goal. Bryant VanHousen had one assist. Griffin Emerson made 14 saves in the goal. The Mustangs were defeated by Pal-Mac, Thursday, May 12. The final score was 7-3. Carter Earl earned two goals and one assist in the game. Tukker Fisher scored once. VanHousen contributed two assists. Emerson made 15 saves. The boys defeated Haverling, 8-7, Tuesday, May 10. Frank Ochoa and Earl each had two goals. Braden Fingar, Teagen Fingar, Dixon and VanHousen all had one. Emerson recorded 12 saves in the cage.
Baseball The Penn Yan baseball team lost to Newark, 6-5, Friday, May 13. The Mustangs had four hits in the contest but couldn't overcome a three-run fifth inning by Newark. Penn Yan beat Geneva, 3-2, Wednesday, May 11, which was senior night. The Mustangs recognized four seniors to start the evening, Liam Griffiths, Brigham Hansen, Alex Foster and Tyler Bouchard. Sophomore Brady Bouchard pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts and two walks. Geneva managed two hits and both runs were unearned. The sophomore has recorded 91 strikeouts in 46 innings so far this season. The Mustang offense tallied six hits on the evening with Brigham Hansen going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Mustangs were down to their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh when Hansen got on with a single followed by Liam Chapman getting hit by a pitch, which brought Brady Bouchard to the plate. With one out and runners on first and second Bouchard hit a walk-off double to win the game. The Mustangs lost, 5-2, at Wayne on Monday, May 9. Brady and Reed Bouchard had the only hits for Penn Yan.
Softball The Penn Yan softball team had a busy week with four games. They won against Newark (13-2), Geneva (12-1) and Midlakes (12-1), but fell to Wayne (8-3). On Friday against Newark, Giana Ficcaglia recorded 15 strikeouts. Hailey Trank hit a double and single, while Maddie Martini and Julia Maldonado had two singles each. Against Geneva, Ficcaglia struck out 11 and had a double and single at the plate. Maldonado earned two hits with a triple and single. Elle Harrison and Keuka Miranda Wiltberger were both 2-for-4 at-bat. Bri Naprava added a double. In the Tuesday game with Midlakes, Ficcaglia had 14 strikeouts. Leah Prather and Maldonado were both 3-for-4. Harrison was 3-for-5.
Track and Field The Penn Yan track team traveled to the Victor Invitational, Friday, May 13. Leading the girls was: Adriana Rodriguez in the shot put with a second place. Cynthia Kriegar finished third in the shot put. For the boys, James Tette was second in the 3,200 meter run.
Boys Tennis The boys tennis team defeated Midlakes, 4-1, Friday, May 13. In singles, the Mustangs got wins from Landon Spears, Alex Reyes-Leon and Kyle Wheeler. Nathaniel Chaffee and Carter Hanley won their doubles match. The Mustangs fell to Wayne, Thursday, May 12. The final score was 3-2. Recording wins were Reyes-Leon and Wheeler. Penn Yan also fell to Avoca-Prattsburgh, Wednesday, May 11. Spears and Wheeler got the two wins for the team. The tennis team won against Marcus Whitman, 5-0, Tuesday, May 10. Spears, Reyes-Leon and Wheeler won in singles, while Chaffee-Hanley and Collin Reagan-Jack Grabski won in doubles.
Hammondsport Baseball The Hammondsport baseball team lost three games last week. They included Arkport-Canaseraga (19-9), Avoca/Prattsburgh (13-0) and South Seneca/Romulus (9-3).
Softball The Hammondsport softball team lost three games and won one last week. The Lakers fell to Avoca-Prattsburgh (9-3), Arkport/Caneseraga (13-12) and Andover/Whitesville (8-4). The team defeated Campbell-Savona, 16-11, Monday, May 9.
Track and Field The Hammondsport track team competed at the South Seneca Invite, Friday, May 13. Emmy O'Neill was first in the girls 3,000 meter run (12:58.01) and also the 2,000 meter steeplechase (9:12.83). The girls also won the 4x400 meter relay event (5:00.05). Nevin Davis took first in the boys 400 meter dash (53.74) and was second in the 200 meter dash. Tristan Davis finished third in the 3,200 meter run. Lucas Lampman was second in the 110 meter hurdles. Liam Kressly took second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The boys were also first in the 4x800 meter relay and second in the 4x400 relay.
Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Baseball The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour baseball team fell to Athens, 2-1, Friday, May 13. Dominick Fazzary had an RBI for the Seneca Indians. Daniel Lewis had five strikeouts on the mound.
Watkins Glen Softball The Watkins Glen softball team beat Odessa-Montour, Wednesday, May 11. The final score was 9-5. Brenna Pierce was on the mound for Watkins and Brianna Hatch was catching.
Lacrosse The Watkins Glen lacrosse team fell to Whitney Point, Friday, May 13. The final score was 17-3. Nick D'Alleva had two goals and Tom Snow one. The lacrosse team also lost to Seton Catholic, 18-2, Wednesday, May 11. Nick Ritter netted both goals for Watkins.
Track The Watkins Glen track team competed at the Union Springs Invitational, Saturday, May 14. Quacey Wilt was fifth in the boys 100 meter dash. Balan Ault took sixth in the boys 800 meter run. Isaac Hendrickson finished fifth in the boys 1,600 meter run. Kyren Young was fifth in the boys 200 meter dash. Ava Kelly was fourth in the girls 200 meter dash.
Golf The Watkins Glen golf team defeated Tioga, 179-189, Thursday, May 12. Daniel Ely led the team with a 40. Andrew Hayes and Georgio Fazzary both added a 46. The golf team also beat Newark Valley, Tuesday, May 10. The final score was 172-213. Watkins was paced by Fazzary with a 40.
Odessa-Montour Softball The Odessa-Montour softball team lost to Candor, 14-0, Thursday, May 12.
Golf The Odessa-Montour boys golf team lost to Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, Thursday, May 12. The final score was 164-214. Benson Patterson had the low 46. The golfers also fell to Waverly, 188-222, Tuesday, May 10. David Patterson led with a 44.
Track The Odessa-Montour track team competed at the Union Springs Invitational, Saturday, May 14. The girls were eighth overall and the boys were sixth. For the girls, Victoria Brewster was first in the 100 meter dash (12.84) and also first in the 200 (26.92). Evelyn Zinger took first in the 3,000 meter run (14:05.39). For the boys, Benjamin Campbell took second in the 1,600 meter run.
