SPORTS RECAP: Week of 6-1-22
Dundee-Bradford Track and Field The Dundee-Bradford track and field team competed in the sectional B4 final, Friday, May 27. The boys were third overall and the girls were fifth. Sectional champions included: • Logan Buchanan, high jump (6' 2"). • Boys 400 meter relay team Camden Buchanan, Josep Bustamante, Hayden Erick and Michele Van Cleef (46.23). • Kendall Parker, 100 meter dash (13.34). • Hallie Knapp, discus throw (90' 6"). • Lily Hall, triple jump (35' 1.25").
Baseball The Dundee-Bradford baseball team fell to Northstar Christian Academy, 12-4, in sectionals, Wednesday, May 25. The team advanced to that game by beating South Seneca/Romulus, 8-6, Monday, May 23.
Softball The BraveScots varsity softball team fell to top-seeded Lyndonville, 10-1, Thursday, May 26 in sectionals. The girls topped Caledonia-Mumford, to reach the semi-final game, Monday, May 23. The final score was 12-10. The team racked up 11 hits on the day. Kailey Yeoman, Abigail Miller, Morgan Sutryk, and Mikayla Schoffner all managed multiple hits.
Penn Yan Track and Field Penn Yan competed at the sectional B2 championship for track and field, Saturday, May 28. First-place finishers included: • James Tette in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:28.62), 1,600 meter run (4:43.38) and 3,200 meter run (10:29.77). • Adriana Rodriguez won the discus (105') and also the shot put (33' 4.75").
Boys Lacrosse The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team defeated Marcus Whitman in the sectional semi-finals, Saturday, May 28. The final score was 12-4. Carter Earl recorded four goals in the game. Braden Fingar and Bryant VanHousen each had two goals and two assists. Tukker Fisher also added two goals. Griffin Emerson made 10 saves in the cage. Penn Yan opened their sectional run with a win over Gananda, 19-0, Wednesday, May 25. Teagen Fingar led with four goals and one assist. Earl earned three goals and one assist. Emerson made one save and Will Thompson also had one in the goal for the Mustangs.
Girls Lacrosse The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team fell in the sectional semi-final game against Aquinas, Wednesday, May 25. The final score was 12-11. Corinne Barden and Bailey Cooper both recorded three goals and an assist. Kaley Griffin and Jammie Decker made two goals each. Goalie Hannah Parsons had seven saves. The Mustangs opened in the quarterfinal game with an easy win over Mynderse-Romulus, 15-2, Monday, May 23. Cooper and Griffin both had four goals and one assist in the game. Parsons made 10 saves.
Baseball The Penn Yan Mustang season came to an end Wednesday, May 25 with a 1-0 loss to Wayland Cohocton. Sophomore Brady Bouchard pitched a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Offensively, Bouchard had a triple and Reed Bouchard, Alex Foster, Riley Griffiths and Brigham Hansen added hits for the team. Softball The Penn Yan softball team fell to Haverling in the sectional Class B2 bracket, Thursday, May 26. The final score was 5-0. To reach that game, the team won over LeRoy, 3-0, Monday, May 23. Giana Ficcaglia recorded 10 strikeouts on the mound and also had a double and triple at the plate. Hailey Trank added a double and single batting for Penn Yan.
Boys Tennis The Penn Yan tennis team lost to Livonia, 4-1, Tuesday, May 24. The Mustangs' win was recorded by Kyle Wheeler in third singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Hammondsport Track and Field The Hammondsport track team traveled to compete in the Section V Class B5 championship last weekend. Nevin Davis took first in the 100 meter dash (11.84), 200 meter dash (24.02) and 400 meter dash (52.45).
Baseball The Hammondsport baseball team fell in their first sectional game against Honeoye, 13-1, Monday, May 23.
Watkins Glen Track The Watkins Glen track and field team competed at the Section 4 championships, Wednesday, May 25. Johnny VanScoyk and Breanna Carl were the top finishers for the team with third-place results in the 1,600 meter run and the 2,000 meter steeplechase, respectively.
Golf The Watkins Glen boys golf team finished third at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large Schools Championship, Wednesday, May 25. Watkins had a 369 total score. Daniel Ely had the low 86 for the team and was followed by Luke Spahalski with an 87. The golf team was also fifth at the Class C Sectional tournament, Monday, May 23. Georgio Fazzary recorded a 89.
Odessa-Montour Track The Odessa-Montour track team traveled to Marathon to compete in the sectional championships, Tuesday, May 24. Tori Brewster won the 100 meter and 200 meter dash races with times of 12.54 and 26.35, respectively. In addition to the wins, she also was second in the triple jump. Ben Campbell led the boys with a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 meter event.
Golf The Odessa-Montour golf team participated in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School competition, Tuesday, May 24. The team recorded a total of 463 strokes. David Patterson had the team-low 102 and was followed by Benson Patterson with a 103..
