Wine festival is this weekend at WGI
WATKINS GLEN--From July 7 through the 10th, Watkins Glen will host thousands of wine tasters as they experience some of the best wine and racing the Finger Lakes has to offer at the 25th annual Finger Lakes Wine Festival. Taking place at Watkins Glen International, there will be food, wine, music, costumes, toga parties, camping, glamping and more. Camping opens on Thursday morning, with the toga party on Friday and then the main tasting events on Saturday and Sunday. Over 90 wineries from throughout the region will be located inside climate-controlled tents set up in and around the garage area at the track. A one or two-day weekend taster wristband not only gives you admittance to the tastings, but also a commemorative Finger Lakes Wine Festival glass and access to the Masters Historic Grand Prix which is at the track as well this weekend. The Formula 1 history of the track will be on display as race cars from the Grand Prix era will return to the road course. While Formula 1 hasn't raced at Watkins Glen in over 40 years, the history of Formula 1 and Watkins Glen are inextricably tied together. Running from 1961 to 1980, international stars like Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi and American racing legend Mario Andretti all participated. Racing will be on track Friday through Sunday from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Children, while unable to attend any of the tastings, will be allowed to attend the racing and be admitted to the campgrounds. New to this year's camping experience will be the inclusion of a new glamping location. Glamping, or glamorous camping, includes a personal tent with a bed and a communal new shower house with bathrooms located just steps away from the Glamping area. Along with the wine tasting, the festival will also include a wide variety of craft, art and food vendors. There will also be educational seminars. Live music from a multitude of different bands and genres will play throughout the event. Food vendors will include gourmet dishes, treats and a variety of regional and specialty meals. For more information visit https://www.flwinefest.com. Two-day wristband access passes are $55 and one day is $50. The Launch of the Lakes toga party on Friday requires a separate pass for $25. The weekend will also include the CLASH Endurance Watkins Glen triathlon. With races on Friday and Saturday, participants will end their journey at WGI. The middle distance event will include a 1.2 mile swim at Clute Park, a 50 mile bike ride and 10 mile run at the track. A full schedule is online at: https://clash-usa.com/clash-watkins-glen.
