Dundee begins planning for anniversary

DUNDEE--This year, 2023, marks two important anniversaries both locally and at the county level. Yates County is celebrating its bicentennial, and the village of Dundee will mark its 175th anniversary. With events already beginning at the county level to celebrate the milestone, a planning committee in Dundee is starting the work for a day-long celebration this summer.
In a letter to community organizations and businesses, the Dundee celebration was announced for Saturday, July 22. It was further explained that the event will take place throughout the village, with events located at the Seneca Street Park, the Millard Park on Spring Street, the American Legion, and Main and Water Streets. The event will begin at noon with an opening ceremony and will be capped with the anniversary parade, beginning at 5 p.m. which will travel through the village and finish at the Seneca Street Park for the closing ceremony.
The 175th anniversary celebration planning committee is looking for interested local businesses and organizations to partner and/or sponsor the event. Businesses and organizations can choose to participate in the celebration event, or through sponsorship. The committee is asking that businesses and organizations that choose to participate in the day-long event arrange related booths, activities, or food and drink that will be engaging for community and family members, as well as recognize the rich history of Dundee.
The event admission is free, however, businesses and organizations may sell crafts, food and drink, or other merchandise. If a business or organization would rather sponsor the event, it can be advertised in the celebration pamphlet, as well as throughout the day-long event.
To participate in the event, there are registration forms for booths or advertising opportunities. They can also be picked up or dropped off at the Our Town Rocks office in Dundee. The committee is open to additional activities and they can be stated on the forms. However, to prevent duplication in types of booths and activities, there will be a policy of "first come, first serve," and all activities must meet the celebration committee's approval.
The committee includes Judy Duquette, Taylor Howell, Mary Cornish, Kevin Oliver, Paula Sullivan, Carlie Chilson, Ashley Kelly and Caryl Sutterby.
