YATES COUNTY--At the Yates County legislature meeting Feb. 13, lawmakers received 2022's fourth quarter report from the Yates Transit Services, including updates on expected reimbursements and efforts to support Keuka College students. Ridership and revenue are up for many routes throughout the county.
Legislators also heard from Dr. Adam Levine, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, who introduced himself and a project during the public comment period. Levine is working with a Cornell lecturer - Elizabeth Day - in conjunction with New York State Association of Counties. Their grant-funded initiative aims to connect research and policy at the county level, with a specific focus area related to child and family policy. The research team conducts phone interviews, prepares a report, and shares the report with research participants.
The legislators spent most of the meeting discussing and approving approximately 100 resolutions and moved into executive session at the close of the public meeting.
A number of the resolutions involved the new emergency medical service being established for the county. This involved appointing an advisory board with representatives from the various first-responder agencies in the county, establishing the administrative policies including billing and creating six full-time paramedic positions. The resolution states the new hires will not begin before May 31. In addition to the paramedics, six emergency medical technicians will also be hired and there will be part-time staff as well.
