Watkins' Gill advances to states

    CHENANGO VALLEY—Watkins Glen runner Matt Gill placed second in the Section IV Class C Championship, Thursday, Nov. 1, and will advance to the state championship next Saturday, Nov. 10, held at Elma Meadows.
    The Watkins boys team placed ninth overall at the sectional meet at Chenango Valley State Park.  Gill had the top spot as second with a time of 17:18.1.  Josh Langley took 11th (18:40.7), Larry Morris 63rd (20:41.7), and Brenton Whiting 64th (20:42.4).  Brandon Pike finished in 85th place (22:12.3).  Jacob Slater claimed 91st (22:54.6), while Ryan Rondinaro was 99th (24:49.0).
    The girls finished in eighth place overall, led by Samantha Phillips in 24th place (23:07.3).  Corey Flahive won 41st place (24:17.2), followed by Hannah Armstrong in 42nd (24:19.3).  Courtney Waite took 47th (24:52.1).
    Amelia Stamp finished 69th (27:54.1), Ireland VanBrocklin 71st (28:20.6), and Becca McIntyre 72nd (28:29.6).
