Schuyler unemployment rate 7.8 percent, Yates is 6.6 percent
TRI-COUNTY AREA—Schuyler County’s unemployment rate is 7.8 percent, which ranks 25th out of all 62 counties in the state. The New York State Department of Labor released the unemployment data for October, the most recent information available, on Nov. 20. Schuyler is tied at 25th lowest with Monroe, New York, Schenectady, and Wyoming Counties. Schuyler’s unemployment is also up 1.1 percent over last year. The October 2011 unemployment rate was 6.7. By comparison, Yates County had the third lowest unemployment rate at 6.6 percent. Yates is also up 0.3 percent when compared to October, 2011. Last year, Yates’ unemployment rate was 6.3 percent during the same month. Steuben County was ranked 53rd with 9.3 percent unemployment. Sullivan County also had 9.3 percent. For Steuben County this is up 0.6 percent over last October. According to the state, it was 8.7 percent in 2011. According to the state, Tompkins led with 5.8 percent. Putnam County had the second lowest (6.5 percent) and Rockland County had fourth (6.7 percent). The highest unemployment rate is Bronx County with 12.5 percent. Orleans followed with 10.2 and Fulton with 10.1. Statewide, unemployment was 8.7 percent.
