Kathy Ring announces retirement
DUNDEE—Dundee Superintendent Kathy Ring announced her plan to retire during a school board meeting held Thursday, June 13. Ring said her resignation from the position would be effective in January of 2014 after 38 years working in the district. Ring has been a member of the school district since 1975, serving in many different positions including principal of the elementary school for 10 years starting in 1998 and becoming superintendent in 2009. She said her decision to resign comes with “very mixed emotions,” ultimately deciding to retire to focus on her family. “My husband is planning to retire, so it seems like it would be a good time to turn our attention to our family,” Ring said. “I have been here for 38 years. It just seemed like it is the right time.” Ring said she will be staying in the area after retirement due to her family also being located in Dundee. She said her future involvement in the district is yet to be determined. Ring said her “heart will always be here,” and she would be available anytime she is needed. “I cannot tell you how blessed I have been,” Ring said. “Dundee Central School is simply a treasure. It has been an honor and a privilege to work here.” Ring said the school board would be discussing what their options are as far as a replacement is concerned. The board voted to accept her resignation during the meeting. She said she has given the board plenty of time to work on coming up with a new superintendent before her retirement becomes effective. In other business: • The board recognized the efforts of Fran Willis who has donated flowers for numerous flower beds around the school. • The board approved coaches for fall sports during the next school year.
