Sahlen’s kicks off racing action
WATKINS GLEN—The first big race of the season is set for this weekend at Watkins Glen International. Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen runs from Friday, June 28, to Sunday, June 30. The first gates open at 7 a.m. all three days. Practices and inspection will be held Friday. The first qualifying race is for F2000 at 10:30 a.m. The Porsche GT3 qualifier is at 3:45 p.m. The F2000 race number one starts at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, qualifying for the Continental is at 10:15 a.m. (ST) and 10:40 a.m. (GS). Rolex qualifying races follow at 11:05 a.m. (GT/GX) and 11:25 a.m. (DP). The second F2000 race goes from 11:55 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. The second race of the day is the Porsche GT3 at 1:05 p.m. Saturday ends with a concert, 7:30 to 10 p.m., as well as a Boy Scouts of America campfire at 8:30 p.m. (family camping area). The Porsche GT3 race gets underway at 9 a.m.Sunday. The main event is Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. The green flag is dropped at 11 a.m. Weekend tickets cost $45 at the gate. The Sunday only ticket costs $40 at the gate. Children and teenagers under age 19 are free. Admission includes access to all grandstands, paddock, and open garage. WGI is also partnering to offer a Military and Veterans Appreciation Event during the Sunday, race. This day-long event includes free entry (via gate three) for active military personnel, veterans and their families with seating in the Seneca bleachers. Military vehicles will also be on display, as well as information on mental health services, education opportunities, veterans’ benefits, family benefits and counseling.
