Pro golfers visit Oak Hill in Rochester
ROCHESTER—Oak Hill Country Club of Rochester, will host the 95th PGA Championship, Aug. 8 to 11. The 156-player roster includes 99 of the top 100 players of the current Official World Golf Rankings. The field features 30 major champions, 70 international players representing 21 countries, and all three of the year’s major winners. They will compete for the Wanamaker Trophy as Oak Hill hosts the season’s final major for the third time in its 88-year history. The defending champion is Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland. He is joined in the field by previous winners: Rich Beem (2002), Keegan Bradley (2011), Mark Brooks (1996), Padraig Harrington (2008), Martin Kaymer (2010), Davis Love III (1997), Shaun Micheel (2003), Phil Mickelson (2005), Vijay Singh (1998, 2004), David Toms (2001), Tiger Woods (1999, 2000, ’06, ’07), and Y.E. Yang (2009). Oak Hill Country Club opened in 1925. In 1980, Jack Nicklaus won the first PGA Championship conducted at Oak Hill by a then-record seven strokes. In 2003, Micheel delivered one of the game’s iconic approach shots to clinch the Championship, with his ball stopping two inches from the flagstick on the 72nd hole. The Donald Ross-designed layout is the only club in the country to host the PGA Championship, Ryder Cup, Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open and the U.S. Amateur Championship.
