Scottish Festival set for Saturday
DUNDEE—The annual Dundee Scottish Festival is Saturday, Sept. 7 at Black Rock Speedway along Route 14. The event will feature a variety of entertainment events including nine pipe bands, a Scottish equestrian drill team, Celtic music, live bands, Scottish food and more. Tickets are $10 at the gate for ages 18-80, free for all others. Saturday morning starts with a bagpipe parade at 10 a.m. which proceeds from the Dundee school all the way to Black Rock Speedway. The opening ceremony will be held at the corner of Main and Seneca Streets. The gates to the festival also open at 10 a.m., which marks the beginning of the Highland Game Competitions. The festival will feature three entertainment stages as well, including the center stage tent, the dance stage tent and the stadium stage tent. The MacLeod Fiddlers open at the center stage tent at 11:30 a.m., the Rochester Scottish Country Dancers open the dance stage tent at 11:30 a.m. and Step in Time opens the stadium stage tent at 11:30 a.m. The center stage tent will close with Penny Whiskey from 5 to 7 p.m., while the Ernst Family Band closes the stadium stage tent from 5 to 5:45. The Katherine Robinson School of Highland Dance will close the dance stage tent from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Penn Yan and Dundee Walk-Off Awards (local competition for pedometer walking) will be presented at 12:15 p.m. at the center stage. From noon to 2:30 p.m. there will be pipe band presentations at the performance circle. There will also be a chicken and pork barbecue starting at 3 p.m. and running until supplies run out. At 4 p.m. there will be a dog costume contest held at the youth tent followed by the dog highland dance contest. Closing announcements will be held at the center stage at 5:45, with the Highland Games awards ceremony taking place at approximately 6 p.m. at the games tent.
