Milo meeting watch 11/17Meeting: The Milo town board met for approximately 45 minutes on November 17. The meeting was followed by an executive session to discuss personnel matters lasting approximately 30 minutes. Attendance: All board members were present. Four members of the public in the audience. Action: Adopted the town budget for 2009. The tax levy total is $895,242. Special districts such as water and fire districts are not included in that total. The current budget is $855,470. • Passed local laws increasing senior exemptions and veterans’ exemptions. • Action on a proposed outdoor furnace law was postponed until the December meeting. Authorized supervisor John Socha and town clerk Patricia Christensen to set up a bid schedule when approval for the Himrod Water District is received from NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH). Discussion without action: Councilman Dale Hallings said the comprehensive plan committee is in the process of contacting some town businesses for their input in the proposed comprehensive plan. Work on the plan has been ongoing for several months. Hallings said, “It’s not as quick as we’d like, but we’re progressing.” • Engineer for the town Wayne Ackart reported he had a long conversation with Yates County Emergency management director Glen Miller regarding possible use of a long pipe during water system repairs. Ackart said Miller was very negative about use of pipe for this purpose. Difficulties included the need for couplings every 20 feet and the fact that the aluminum pipe would not be able to handle the water pressure. Fire hose had been mentioned in the past as a possible solution of bridging work areas. • Ackart said there has been a flurry of activity connected to the Himrod Water District. He said may be getting ready to act and Ackart is “Cautiously optimistic approval may be granted.” He said it looks like the town could advertise for bids in December with awarding bids in January and start of construction in March. The town must wait until they receive formal approval from NYSDOH before the project may be put out to bid.
