Jones withdraws his name for Jerusalem seat

JERUSALEM—Current Jerusalem Supervisor Daryl Jones announced he will withdraw his candidacy for one of two open positions on the Jerusalem town council, during a meeting of the Jerusalem Town Republican Committee Tuesday, Sept. 24. This comes after Jones tied at 302 votes with Gary Dinehart during the Republican primary election Sept. 10. Current councilman Max Parson received the most votes during the primary.
Democratic Commissioner at the Yates County Board of Elections Robert Brechko said they received a letter announcing Jones’ withdrawal from the race. He said the committee met to decide which of the two candidates’ names would appeal on the ballot in the November general election. Brechko said according to the letter, Jones withdrew his name from the ballot and supports Dinehart’s candidacy for town council, citing his background in the town’s water and sewer department.
“I would like to see Gary Dinehart on the board with his experience in the water and sewer department,” Jones said.  “He is retiring and is currently a employee at the town and is retiring in December. I think he would be a good fit.”
Jones said the committee accepted his withdrawal and agreed to support Dinehart’s candidacy in the general election. Both Parson and Dinehart will now appear as Republican candidates for the two open council positions.
