Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

Dundee school board 05/14/09

Meeting: Dundee Central School District board of education met for approximately 45 minutes, May 14. The meeting was preceded by an executive session to discuss tenure review and matters leading to the employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension or removal of a particular person, lasting 30 minutes.
Attendance: All board members were present. Twelve members of the public were in the audience.
Action: Abolished the position of school media specialist. The person with the least seniority in that tenure area is school media Specialist Eric Saile. The resolution read in part, “In preparing the budget for the 2009-10 school year, determined that for reasons of economy and efficiency it is necessary to abolish certain positions.” A social worker position was also eliminated as was one cleaner position. The social worker with the least seniority is Deborah Combs.
• The family and consumer science position was reduced from full-time to a 40 percent position.
• Granted tenure to mathematics teacher Scott Shepardson and elementary teachers Pamela Rapoza and Elizabeth Woods, effective Sept. 1.
• Authorized establishment of a Retirement Contribution Reserve Fund for the purpose of financing amount payable by the district to the New York State and Local Employees Retirement system.
• Tabled adoption of the 2009-10 Professional Development Plan until June.
Discussion without action: Board president Joseph Capurso and the board discussed safety procedures in light of the recent student suicide at Canandaigua Academy.
• Heard a report from the sophomore class. The class has more than doubled the amount in its treasury through several special events to more than $10,000.
• Thanked Giles Stores, Inc. for their donation of $1,320 to be used by the libraries and business department.
Heard a report on Science with a Technology Twist group from advisor Randy Knapp.
• The board congratulated Casey Thomas and Joshua Prisco for earning the slots of valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively for the Class of 2009.
• Board President Joseph Capurso congratulated March Mega Scots Kali Day, Lauren Howell, Rachel Coon, Dylan Hasting and Ronald Brewer and April Mega scots Corinna Pollack, Sommer Littell, Zachary Carruthers and Aiden VanValkenburg.
• The board commended school cafeteria Manager Kathy Galliher and the cafeteria staff.  The New York State Education Child Nutrition Department gave a good review of the district’s breakfast and lunch program. . District business Manager Melissa Lawson said, “They were very complimentary of our whole operation.”
Appointments/resignations: Appointed Megan VanKeuren to teach in the special education area, Jevon Ballard to teach in social studies 7 to 12 area and Matthew Vitticore to teach in the English 7 to 12 area, all effective Sept.1.
Upcoming meetings: June 11 at 7 p.m. in the public meeting room. The reorganizational meeting was established July 14.
