Fireworks will highlight holiday celebrations
TRI-COUNTY AREA (6/29/16)--Area residents will be celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence Monday, July 4, declaring the nation's independence from Great Britain in 1776. The holiday weekend will feature celebrations with parades, fireworks, carnivals, concerts and more. Branchport will be the site of the annual parade honoring the nation's independence Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. The parade will proceed through the four-corners area at the village center. Branchport will also have a fireworks display at 10 p.m. by the fire department later that evening. The Penn Yan Flying Club will host its 69th annual Fly-in/Drive-In Breakfast Monday, July 4 at the Penn Yan Airport. The event features plane rides, music and various small aircraft on display at 2487 Old Bath Road in Penn Yan. Breakfast will be served 6:30 through 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. The event will be held rain or shine. The Branchport United Methodist Church Red, White and Blue 5K run will take place Monday morning at 8 a.m. Monday will conclude with the Night of Lights on Keuka Lake at sundown, with lakeside residents lighting flares around the lake to light up the area. The weekend also features a fireworks display Friday, July 1 at Outlaw Speedway, which begins at 7 p.m. Barnstormer Winery in Rock Stream will also be holding their third Reds, Whites and Blues Fest Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. The evening features live blues by Whippoorwillow to start and Scott and Brett (Beer and Bumpy), along with barbecue, cigars and free admission. Hammondsport's Annual Fireman's Carnival at the firehouse grounds runs Thursday, June 30 through Saturday, July 2, with a fireworks show scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday evening. In Watkins Glen, the Chamber of Commerce and Cayuga Health Systems are sponsoring the annual Fourth of July fireworks Friday, July 1, at 9:45 p.m. at Clute Memorial Park. Young Explosives Corporation of Rochester will produce the show. There will also be an "I Love America" concert Saturday, July 2, at Lafayette Park starting at 7 p.m. The show will feature the Sounds of Freedom Choir and the Victory Singers with special guest Gold City. The show is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating. Sunday will feature an Americana Pops Concert, July 3 at the the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and features a string quartet with special guests Resonanz. The program will include the music of Leroy Anderson, Leonard Bernstein, George M. Cohan and Irving Berlin, Aaron Copland's Old American Songs, a selection of Shaker tunes and "America the Beautiful." The weekend will also feature the Sahlen's Six Hours at The Glen race.
