Odessa tops Watkins; Lynch second at Watson WATKINS GLEN--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Watkins Glen Monday, Jan. 16. The final score was 46-43 with Sage Garrison making the game winning three-point shot at the buzzer. Olivia Grover had 16 points and nine rebounds in the game. Gillian Clark recorded 15 points. Nakiaha Robinson had nine points and four assists. Kennedey Heichel added three points. The girls basketball team fell to Notre Dame, 46-38, Thursday, Jan. 12. Clark led with 15 points. Grover added 12 points and nine rebounds. Robinson recorded six points, followed by Heichel with three and Grace Vondracek with two. The Indians' record is now 11-2. WRESTLING The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed seventh at Watkins' Mike Watson Invitational, Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14. Jeremiah Lynch (160) placed second overall in the tournament finals. Jacob Zimmer (145) and Cameron Pickering (170) finished fourth, while Dylan Houseknecht (285) was fifth. Josiah Lynch (106) and Andrew Hartford (120) both took sixth. Odessa's varsity wrestling team topped Marathon, 42-36, Thursday, Jan. 12. Pickering (170) pinned Kyle Wood in 1:34. Deshawn Johnson (182) beat Chris Barned in 0:21. Alex Repass (220) won over Caleb Stewart in 0:38, while Houseknecht (285) pinned Parker Brown in 0:11. Collin Haag (132) beat Dylan Reynolds in 2:48. Josiah Lynch (106) and Hartford (120) won by forfeit. Boys swimming The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team placed third at the John Beecher Swimming and Diving Invitational for Class C, Saturday, Jan. 14. Billy Tague was fifth in the 500 free (5:17.96, a season best time) and ninth in the 200 free (1:56.94, a season best time). Andy Fudala finished eighth in the 100 breast (1:07.89, a season best time). The 200 medley relay team (Alec Betts, Fudala, Jake Mayette, and Tague) were eighth with a season best of 1:54.26. The 200 free relay team (Betts, Fudala, Noah Angle, and Tague) finished 10th with a season best of 1:41.85. "They all rose to the occasion today in the pool, and helped the rookies acclimate to the different meet structure," said Coach Terri Brace. The swim team topped Southern Cayuga, 55-39, Thursday, Jan. 12. The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Fudala, Mayette, and Tague) took first in 1:56.39, while the 400 free relay team (Mayette, Noah Brewster, Micah Brewster, and Cameron Adams) was also first in 4:23.50. The 200 free relay team of Fudala, Betts, Angle, and Tague finished first in 1:45.96. Tague took first in the 200 IM (2:14.52, a personal record) and the 100 free (56.92). Fudala placed first in the 50 free (26.09) and the 100 breast (1:08.89, a season best). Mayette won the 100 fly (1:14.62), while Betts finished first in the 100 back (1:12.61). Boys basketball The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Notre Dame, Friday, Jan. 13. The final score was 65-38. Zach Elliott scored 15 points, followed by Curtis Harris with eight. Nick Sgrecci earned six points. Noah Austin recorded four and Brandon Ray three. The boys basketball team lost to Watkins Glen, Wednesday, Jan. 11. The final score was 60-43. Harris scored 16 points, followed by Austin with 10 and Sgrecci with seven. Ray recorded six. Elliott added four points. Bowling The Odessa-Montour girls varsity bowling team tied, 2-2, with Tioga, while the boys lost, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 12. Jackie Vincent led with a 438, while Carolyn Arias recorded 437. Taylor Sykes had a 407. Kacie Wood earned a 375 and Grace Edger added a 344. For the boys, Alex Grady earned a 527. Joey Glosenger added 526. Eric Rumsey bowled a 496, followed by Cameron Bryington with 495.
Penn Yan wins over Geneva in overtime, 57-54 PENN YAN--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team topped Geneva, 57-54, in overtime, Friday, Jan. 13. Desmond Battin and Dylan Stape led the Mustangs with 15 points. Derrick Riviello added 10 points. With the win, Penn Yan's record is 7-5. The Mustangs' basketball team won against Waterloo, Wednesday, Jan. 11. The final score was 55-50. Battin led with 19 points. Stape followed with 11, while Cade Curbeau had eight. Girls basketball The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team lost an away game to Geneva, Friday, Jan. 13. The final score was 53-46. No individual stats were reported. The Lady Mustangs beat Waterloo, 51-24, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Hannah Keech scored 13 points. Elissa Callaway added 11, while Lizzy Lafferty added eight. Emily Wunder earned six points and Sydney Bloom five. Emalee Rose Brockman recorded three, while both Emma Harling and Brooke Dinehart scored two. Penn Yan lost to Aquinas, 44-42, Monday, Jan. 9. Bloom led with 13 points, while Wunder had 12. Brockman recorded six. Callaway added five points, followed by Keech with four. Lafferty rounded out the scoring with two points. Bowling The Penn Yan girls and boys varsity bowling teams each won championships in the Finger Lakes League Holiday Challenge, Saturday, Jan. 14. The Mustangs competed against Romulus, Geneva, and Waterloo. Individual scores were not kept, but bowlers competed as team. For the girls: Emilie Thomas, Emily Augustine, Mckelvie Jensen, Brandee Ellis, and Kari Ayers won. Penn Yan's boys included Jacob Whitford, Alex Gurba, Zack Blauvelt, Steven Ottaviano, and Bryce Johnson The Penn Yan boys bowling team blanked Geneva, 7-0, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Ottaviano led with a 674. Johnson added 630, followed by Gurba with 625. The girls lost, 5-2. Thomas recorded a 555, while Ayers had 507. Augustine earned a 415. Ellis added a 351.
Hammondsport boys lose to Belfast, 62-37 ALFRED--The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team lost to Belfast, 62-37, in the Daniel Barkley Showcase, Steuben vs. Allegany, Saturday, Jan. 14. Brayden Whitcomb led with nine points and 11 rebounds. Cody Kolo earned seven points, eight rebounds, and three assists. The Lakers lost to Dundee, 67-45, Friday, Jan. 13. Kolo recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. George Ruddy scored 14 points and had three assists. Hammondsport's boys basketball team lost to Lima-Christian, 59-52, Monday, Jan. 9. Parker Watson led with 19 points, including five three-point shots. Kolo earned 13 points and 12 rebounds. James Kolo contributed seven points, while Luke Atkinson earned seven points and 14 rebounds.
Dundee loses; wrestling competes
OVID--The Dundee girls varsity basketball team was topped by South Seneca, 86-16, Friday, Jan. 13. Mackenzie Strait led the Scots with 10 points. Madison Neu and Megan Sutherland both scored three. The Lady Scots fell to Red Jacket, Wednesday, Jan. 11. The final score was 64-35. Strait scored 14 points, followed by Sutherland with 13. Neu recorded eight points and six rebounds. Dundee's girls basketball team lost to Honeoye, 39-32, Monday, Jan. 9. Strait recorded 12 points. Neu had eight points and Alyssah Newell six, while both earned 13 rebounds. Sutherland contributed four points and seven rebounds. Mercedez Roy scored two points. Wrestling The Dundee varsity wrestling team placed 11th at the 42nd Annual Robert Bradshaw Memorial Wrestling Tournament, Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14. Damon Empson (138) took third in his weight class. Charles Dailey (120) placed fourth. Joseph Dillon (285) was sixth The wrestling team beat Lyons 61-18, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Dailey pinned Boskat Dakota in 2:45. Steven Ameigh won over Payton Gallup in 1:37. Empson beat Charles Seguin with a fall in :38. Paul Knapp, Michael Gee, Trenton Lane, Jared Jayne, Ethan Rexford, Harry Nice and Dillon won by forfeit. Boys basketball The Dundee boys varsity basketball team topped Hammondsport, Friday, Jan. 13. The final score was 67-45. Bobby Strait led with 22 points. Wylie Hall added 18. The Scots beat Red Jacket, 54-40, Wednesday, Jan. 11. John Clancey recorded 17 points and 16 rebounds. Hall scored 14 points. Bowling The Dundee boys and girls varsity bowling teams topped Romulus, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Collin Goodman led the boys with a 567. Jared Hartman added 539, followed by Hunter Murphy with a 522. Liz Medina earned a 389. Sabrina Goodman bowled a 363, while Faith Switzer added 362. Karyanna Rutledge contributed 307.
Watkins falls to Odessa; wrestling hosts tournament WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team lost to Odessa-Montour Monday, Jan. 16. The final score was 46-43, with Odessa making a three-point shot at the buzzer for the win. Amanda Pike had 11 points for the Senecas. Hannah Morse recorded 10 and both Clara Chedzoy and Mariah Gonzalez had eight. Watkins now stands at 10-2 on the season. The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team beat Candor, 51-31, Thursday, Jan. 12. Pike led with 29 points, including three three-point shots and three rebounds. Taylor Kelly added 11 points and three rebounds. Morse recorded five points, with seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals. Ryanna LaMoreaux, Makenna Fraboni, and Julia Reilly each scored two points. Wrestling The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team finished 12th in the Mike Watson Invitational, Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14. Parker Arcangeli (182) and Ethan Voorheis (285) each took fourth. Charlie Wright (152) finished fifth. Josh Bravo (195) and Kameryn Sheldon (220) both placed sixth. Boys basketball The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team topped Odessa-Montour, 60-43, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Connor Seeley-Ion led with 24 points. Max Schimizzi added 16. Michael Doane recorded nine points, while Joseph Chedzoy had five and Alex Gibson four. Boys swimming The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team placed sixth at the John Beecher Swimming and Diving Invitational for Class B, Saturday, Jan. 14. Aidan DeBolt took seventh in the 50 yard freestyle (23.03) and 13th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.40). AJ Specchio was 15th in the 200 IM (2:20.45) and 15th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.80). The 400 free relay team (Specchio, Dakota Cole, Nathaniel Wickham, and DeBolt) were eighth with 3:44.83. The 200 free relay team (DeBolt, Cole, Wickham, and Specchio) placed eighth in 1:40.02. The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team lost a close meet to Waverly, 92-91, Thursday, Jan. 12. Cole won first in the 200 free (2:03.91, a season best) and first in the 500 free (5:46.21). Specchio took first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.31, a season best) and second in the 200 IM (2:20.34). Wickham placed second in the 50 free (24.83) and second in the 100 free (57.42). DeBolt finished first in the 100 butterfly (59.87, a career best). "A great team effort tonight," said Coach Len DeBolt. "Everyone stepped up and did a great job." Bowling The Watkins boys and girls varsity bowling teams both blanked Notre Dame, 4-0, Friday, Jan. 13. For the boys, Nathaniel Rose recorded a 552. Casen Weeden added 537. Steven Bradley bowled a 504, while Wyatt Brower earned 493. Dakota Evans led the girls with a 543. Hayley Cornish added a 492, followed by Nikole VanDyke with 445. Liz Mason earned 422. The Watkins boys and girls bowling teams both beat Marathon, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 12. Evans recorded a 535. Mason added 458. VanDyke bowled a 433, followed by Cornish with 419. For the boys, Bradley led with 496. Rose recorded 493. Conlin Wysocki had a 477, while Weeden contributed 465.
