Odessa boys claim wrestling Class D crown UNATEGO--The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team won the Section IV Class D championship, Saturday, Feb. 4. All 10 of Odessa's wrestlers finished in the top three spots and will advance to the Section IV Championships at Watkins Glen, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11. Jeremiah Lynch (160), Cameron Pickering (170), and Deshawn Johnson (182) all were first. Andrew Hartford (120), Dan Minnier (152), Alex Repass (220), and Dylan Houseknecht (285) each took second. Josiah Lynch (106), Collin Haag (138), and Jacob Zimmer (145) took third. The varsity wrestling team blanked Waverly, 59-0, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Pickering (182) beat Ben Gates in 4:48. Josiah Lynch (106) won over Nick Spinner in 1:52. Hartford (120) pinned Colby Sindoni in 2:51. Haag (138) topped Cody Chandler in 3:12. Minnier (152), Jeremiah Lynch (160), Johnson (195), Repass (220), Houseknecht (285), and Zimmer (145) won by forfeit. Boys swimming The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team lost to Watkins Glen, 85-84, Thursday, Feb. 2. Billy Tague placed first in the 200 IM (2:16.17) and first in the 500 free (5:28.97). Alec Betts finished second in the 200 free (2:16.55) and second in the 100 free (56.80). Andy Fudala won first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.46). Brett Walters placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:15.74). Noah Brewster took second in the 100 backstroke (1:16.06). The 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams took first. Girls basketball The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Newfield in a close game, 40-39, Friday, Feb. 3. Junior Gillian Clark hit her 1,000th career point during the game. Overall, she scored 21 points for the Indians. Olivia Grover secured the lead for Odessa with a shot 12.7 second before the buzzer sounded. She earned seven points in total during the game. Odessa's record is now 15-2. Odessa's girls basketball team beat Spencer-Van Etten, 53-38, Wednesday, Feb. 1. Clark led with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Grover earned 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks. Nakiaha Robinson added eight points, five steals, and three assists. Kennedey Heichel recorded two points and six assists. Boys basketball The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Newfield, Friday, Feb. 3. The final score was 63-39. Noah Austin recorded 10 points, followed by Zach Elliott and Brandon Ray with nine each. Curtis Harris scored six. Nick Sgrecci added five points. The Indians' boys basketball team fell to Spencer-Van Etten, 42-33, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Harris recorded 13 points for Odessa-Montour. Brandon Ray followed with six. Sgrecci, Elliott, and Austin each recorded four points. Bowling The Odessa-Montour girls varsity bowling team placed fifth at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, while the boys were seventh, Saturday, Feb. 4. For the girls, Carolyn Arias recorded a 554. Jackie Vincent earned 497, while Taylor Sykes had a 422. Kacie Wood bowled 386. Leading the boys was Alex Grady with a 676. Eric Rumsey earned a 599. Joey Glosenger recorded 452. Marcus Getman added a 437. The Odessa-Montour girls and boys bowling teams both lost to Waverly in an away meet, Tuesday, Jan. 31. The girls lost, 3-1. Vincent led with a 555 series. Arias added 449, while Taylor Sykes had a 401. Grace Edger contributed a 362. The boys were blanked, 4-0. Getman led with a 468. Rumsey added a 462, while Grady earned a 450. Glosenger contributed 428. The boys varsity bowling team topped Marathon, 4-0, while the girls won, 3-1, Monday, Jan. 30. Rumsey led the boys with a 545, followed by Glosenger with 501 and Trevor Dunn with 487. Grady earned a 479. For the girls, Vincent recorded a 490. Arias followed with 450. Madison Randall earned 377. Sykes bowled a 370. Edger recorded 341.
Watkins girls win two games; swimmers beat O-M WATKINS GLEN--The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team topped Waverly, Friday, Feb. 3. The final score was 60-46. Amanda Pike led with 21 points and seven rebounds. Clara Chedzoy added 12 points, followed by Taylor Kelly with 11. Mariah Gonzalez and Hannah Morse both scored eight points. Gonzalez also earned 14 rebounds. The Watkins Glen girls basketball team beat Thomas A. Edison, 64-24, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Kelly and Jazmin Shea both led with 11 points. Ryanna LaMoreaux scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds, followed by Morse with nine points. Julia Reilly added six points, while Gonzalez earned five points and 10 rebounds. Pike and Mikenna Ayers both scored four points. Boys swimming The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team topped Odessa-Montour, 85-84, Thursday, Feb. 2. Aidan DeBolt finished first in the 50 free (23.44) and first in the 100 free (52.08). Dakota Cole won first in the 200 free (2:04.48) and second in the 500 free (5:46.71). AJ Specchio placed first in the backstroke (1:04.30) and second in the 200 IM (2:21.63). William Fitzsimmons took first in the 100 butterfly (1:09.04). Nathaniel Wickham was second in the 50 free (25.43). Rong Lin took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.32). The Watkins swim team lost to Corning, 93-78, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Specchio took first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.29) and second in the 200 IM (2:22.31). DeBolt finished second in the 50 free (23.68) and second in the 100 free (53.08). Lin was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.00). Simon Wigmore placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.23). Fitzsimmons took third in the 100 butterfly (1:10.17), while Collin Baker placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:33.23). Wrestling The Watkins Glen wrestling team finished sixth in the Class C division of Section IV. The Senecas had one individual champion with Kameryn Sheldon (220) getting a pin in 4:14. Also placing were: Ethan Voorheis, second at 285; Dylan Bradley, third at 120; Josh Bravo (195) and Casey Falls (220) fourth; Sean Kelly (132), Dalton Cummings (160) and Calvin Buckley (170) were fifth. Bowling The Watkins Glen girls varsity bowling team finished second in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, Saturday, Feb. 4. Liz Mason led with a 569. Hayley Cornish recorded a 540, while Dakota Evans earned 427. Nancy Jackson added 414. The Watkins boys placed fifth, led by Wrett Brower with 633. Conlin Wysocki earned a 600, followed by Nathaniel Rose with 592. Boys basketball The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team lost to Waverly, 70-37, Friday, Feb. 3. Michael Doane led with 12 points. Alex Schimizzi and Connor Seeley-Ion both added six points. Dayne Hughey recorded five points, followed by Max Schimizzi with four. Alex Gibson and Justin Lodge both scored two points. The Senecas' boys basketball team topped Thomas A. Edison, 51-46, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Max Schimizzi and Doane both led with 17 points. Seeley-Ion scored 11 points. Joseph Chedzoy added four, while Gibson recorded two.
Wrestlers place at sectionals; girls lose two games WAYNE--The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team placed 11th at the Section V Class BBB championship, Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4. Nate Elliott (145) and Coty Bailey (160) placed fourth individually. Cody Allgood (106), Damien Snyder (113), Jarred Calice (132), and Leonardo Chavez (195) each took sixth. Girls basketball The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Mynderse, Friday, Feb. 3. The final score was 56-41. With the loss, the Lady Mustangs' record is now 9-8. Sydney Bloom recorded 12 points and Emily Wunder had nine. Penn Yan fell to Wayne, 70-60, Wednesday, Feb. 1. Emalee Rose Brockman led with 14 points. Lizzy Lafferty recorded 13 points, while Hannah Keech had 11. Bloom scored nine. Wunder followed with six points and Cassidy Prather had four. Elissa Callaway recorded two, while Emma Harling had one point. Bowling The Penn Yan boys varsity bowling team claimed the co-championship title of the Finger Lakes East league, with Marcus Whitman, following a Tuesday, Jan. 31 match. The varsity bowling teams both beat Waterloo, Monday, Jan. 30. The boys blanked Waterloo, 7-0. Alex Gurba led with a 631. Steven Ottaviano followed with 576. Bryce Johnson added 557 and Jacob Whitford 552. Zach Blauvelt bowled 485. The girls won, 4-3. Kari Ayers recorded a 548. Emilie Thomas earned 482, while Emily Augustine had 472. Brandee Ellis contributed 367. Mckelvie Jensen added a 340. Boys basketball The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team lost to Mynderse, 57-38, Friday, Feb. 3. Cade Curbeau and Dylan Stape both scored 11 points. With the loss, Penn Yan's record is now 8-9. The Mustangs' boys varsity basketball team fell to Wayne, 63-47, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Desmond Battin led with 23 points. Stape recorded 12 points.
Dundee boys beat HAC; Empson third at sectionals DUNDEE--The Dundee boys varsity basketball team topped Harley Allendale Columbia, 69-32, Saturday, Feb. 4. Bobby Strait led with 23 points, including 20 points scored in the first quarter. Tyler Brace recorded 16 points. With the win, the Scots' record is 11-6. The Dundee boys defeated Bradford, Thursday, Feb. 2. The final score was 49-39. Strait led with 18 points. Wylie Hall and Kyle Cratsley both earned eight points. The Dundee boys varsity basketball team won against South Seneca, Monday, Jan. 30. The final score was 63-55. Strait scored 25 points, while Hall had 16. Wrestling The Dundee varsity wrestling team placed 14th overall at the Section V Class B championship, Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4. Damon Empson (138) was third individually. Steven Ameigh (126), Braydon Eatherton (170), and Harry Nice (195) all placed sixth. Wrestlers that placed advance to the State Qualifiers at Brockport. Bowling The Dundee varsity bowling teams both beat Naples, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Collin Goodman led the boys with 545. Jared Hartman added a 530, while Hunter Murphy had 487. Lucas Bowden earned a 310 and Connor Muck bowled a 285 in two games. For the girls, Faith Switzer bowled a 440. Edele Morgan contributed 389. Liz Medina had 354, while Karyanna Rutledge bowled a 336. Girls basketball The Lady Scots varsity basketball team fell to Harley Allendale Columbia, 69-28, Saturday, Feb. 4. Madison Neu led with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Megan Sutherland added eight points and four rebounds. Mercedez Roy, Alexandria Wood, and Delaine Nolan all scored two points. Roy also had five assists, while Nolan recorded five rebounds. Dundee's girls basketball team lost to Naples, 55-43, Tuesday, Jan. 31. Sutherland scored 18 points. Mackenzie Strait earned nine points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. Neu added eight points and 11 rebounds. Nolan earned four points, while Alyssah Newell and Roy both scored two points.
