SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2/15/17

Dundee girls face Bloomfield and Romulus
DUNDEE--The Dundee girls varsity basketball team lost to Bloomfield, 58-26, Friday, Feb. 10.
Leading the Scots was Madison Neu with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Sutherland added nine points and seven rebounds. Emily Oughterson scored three points. Delaine Nolan posted seven rebounds.
The Lady Scots lost to Romulus, Wednesday, Feb. 8. The final score was 72-21.
Neu led with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sutherland added six points and six rebounds, while Oughterson and Alexandria Wood each scored two points.
Boys basketball
The Scots' boys varsity basketball team topped Romulus, 60-57, Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Bobby Strait led with 16 points. Both Wylie Hall and Kyle Cratsley earned 12 points.
With the win, Dundee's record is 12-6.
Bowling
Dundee's Jared Hartman and Collin Goodman were named to the Finger Lakes West All-Star Boys' Second Team. Courtney Eddinger was named the girls Coach of the Year. Connor Muck, Hunter Murphy and Liz Medina also made honorable mentions for the boys and girls.
Dundee's varsity bowling teams competed in the Finger Lakes West Doubles and Singles Tournament, Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Division A doubles pair Muck (164, 459) and Murphy (155, 391) placed second. In Division B, Hartman (220, 596) and Goodman (231, 553) won first in doubles.
For the girls Division C pairing Tara Bowden (97, 285) and Medina (140, 402) won first. Medina placed first in Division B singles with a 402.
Wrestling
Dundee had wrestlers compete at the Section V Supersectionals (state qualifier), Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.
Damon Empson (138) took fifth overall. In the consolation final, Empson pinned Keshequa's Chase Wood in 4:31.

Odessa-Montour wrestlers compete at sectionals
WATKINS GLEN--Odessa-Montour's varsity wrestling team took 11th overall in the Section IV Division 2 Championship, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.
Jeremiah Lynch (160) finished third in the tournament. Cameron Pickering (170) and Dylan Houseknecht (285) took fourth. Jacob Zimmer (145) and Deshawn Johnson (182) finished in sixth.
Girls basketball
The Indians' girls varsity basketball team topped Dryden, 54-51, Friday, Feb. 10.
Olivia Grover posted 25 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Gillian Clark added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sage Garrison scored five points, while Kennedey Heichel and Alexis Saunders both had three. Grace Vondracek recorded two points.
"A tight game all the way, we pulled ahead on a three-point play by Olivia Grover with 40 seconds to go," said Coach Greg Gavich.
Odessa's record is 16-3 heading into the IAC Small School Championship game Friday, Feb. 17, against Moravia (17-2).
Odessa-Montour's basketball team lost to Waverly, Wednesday, Feb. 8. The final score was 70-39.
Clark led with 25 points. Grover scored six points, while Saunders and Nakiaha Robinson each recorded three points. Heichel added two points.
Boys Swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team placed third at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, Saturday, Feb. 11.
The 200 medley relay team (Alec Betts, Andy Fudala, Jacob Mayette and Billy Tague) finished second in 1:51.42. The 400 freestyle relay team (Noah Angle, Betts, Fudala, and Tague) were fourth in 3:45,07. The 200 freestyle relay team (Brett Walters, Bailey Hornbrook, Mayette, and Angle) were fifth with 1:46.25.
Fudala finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.34) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.70). Tague placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.74) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:15.40).
Betts was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.34) and third in the 100 freestyle (54.57).
"They all really stepped up, and everyone on the team posted at least one personal record in their individual event," said Coach Terri Brace.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour girls and boys varsity bowling teams each took second in the Section IV Class D championship, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.
For the girls, Jackie Vincent posted a 492. Carolyn Arias added 437, followed by Taylor Sykes with a 384. Kacie Wood bowled 383. Grace Edger recorded 360.
Leading the boys was Alex Grady with a 503. Marcus Getman posted 447. Eric Rumsey had a 433, followed by Joey Glosenger with a 428. Cameron Bryington earned 416.
Boys basketball
The Indians' boys varsity basketball team beat Candor, 62-48, Friday, Feb. 10.
Curtis Harris led with 27 points. Zach Elliott posted 17 points, while Brandon Ray added nine. Noah Austin scored five points and Nick Sgrecci four.
Odessa's record is now 5-13.
The Indians boys varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Waverly, 74-49, Tuesday, Feb. 8.
Harris scored 22 points for O-M. Ray earned 11 points, while Sgrecci followed with six. Austin and Zach Elliott both scored five.

Penn Yan girls basketball team tops Geneva, 64-41
PENN YAN--The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team defeated Geneva, 64-41, Friday, Feb. 10.
Sydney Bloom led with 21 points. Emily Wunder and Lizzy Lafferty each also recorded 12 points. Emalee Rose Brockman scored seven, while Hannah Keech earned five points. Elissa Callaway posted three, Jenna Curbeau and Emma Harling both added two points.
With the win, Penn Yan's record is now 11-8.
Penn Yan also beat Waterloo, Wednesday, Feb. 8. The final score was 67-50.
Bloom scored 14 points, followed by Lafferty with 12 and Keech with 11. Harling recorded eight points. Callaway added seven, with Brooke Dinehart and Brockman both scoring four points.
Boys basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team defeated Geneva, Friday, Feb. 10. The final score was 50-42.
Desmond Battin led with 14 points. Ben Emerson recorded 12 points, while Dylan Stape added nine. With the win, Penn Yan's record is 10-9.
Penn Yan beat Waterloo, 48-35, Tuesday, Feb. 7. Battin had 19 points and five rebounds. Stape recorded 10 points, with eight rebounds.
Bowling
Steven Ottaviano and Bryce Johnson were named to the Finger Lakes East All-Star First Team for the boys. Alex Gurba was named to the second All-Star team, while Zack Blauvelt and Jacob Whitford earned honorable mentions. Coach Mindy Johnson was named the boys Coach of the Year.
For the girls, Kari Ayers made the East All-Star First Team for girls. Emilie Thomas made the second team.
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams competed in the Finger Lakes East Doubles and Singles Tournament, Monday, Feb. 6.
In Division A for the boys, doubles pair of Gurba (257, 651) and Ottaviano (268, 677) won first. Ottaviano also took second in the Division A singles with a 677.
For Division B, doubles pair Blauvelt (223, 615) and Zach Gurba (222, 576) also won first. In Division C, Zach Gurba took first in singles with a 576.
WRESTLING
Penn Yan had wrestlers compete at the Section V Supersectionals (state qualifier), Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.
Weight class champions advance to the state tournament in Albany. The Mustangs did not have any wrestlers place in the top six spots.

Hammondsport boys lose to Bradford
BRADFORD-The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team fell to Bradford in the second round of the Steuben County Tournament, Saturday, Feb. 11. The final score was 50-37.
Cameron Roote scored seven points for the Lakers. Dillan Conley posted six points.
The Lakers lost to Avoca in the first round of the tournament, 75-36, Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Brayden Whitcomb led with 12 points. Cody Kolo added eight points and 17 rebounds.

Sheldon takes third; girls top Ithaca 62-47
WATKINS GLEN-The Senecas' varsity wrestling team took 17th in the Section IV Division 2 Championship, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11. Kameryn Sheldon (220) placed third, with a 4-1 record.
Watkins Glen Superintendent Tom Phillips also recognized Matt Marciniak, a past Watkins Glen graduate from 1991, who won the state championship at 152 pounds and was inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame last year.
Girls basketball
The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team beat Ithaca, 62-47, Thursday, Feb. 9.
Amanda Pike led with 26 points. Mariah Gonzalez followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Kelly also scored 10 points, while Hannah Morse posted eight points and 10 assists.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen varsity swim team finished fifth at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championship, Saturday, Feb. 11. Six schools competed.
The 400 freestyle relay team (Dakota Cole, Nathaniel Wickham, AJ Specchio, and Aidan DeBolt) placed third in 3:40.61. The 200 freestyle relay team (Specchio, Wickham, Cole, and DeBolt) placed fourth in 1:38.51.
DeBolt placed second in the 100 freestyle (51.98) and second in the 50 freestyle (23.41). Cole finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:41.27) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:04.00). Specchio was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:04.41) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:16.05). Wickham was fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.64). Will Fitzsimmons took fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:09.10).
Bowling
The Watkins Glen girls varsity bowling team took second in the Section IV Class C Championship, Friday, Feb. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 11.
For the girls, Dakota Evans posted a 474. Hayley Cornish added 473, followed by Liz Mason with a 457. Nikole VanDyke added a 408.
The boys finished fifth overall. Nathaniel Rose recorded a 580. Steven Bradley posted a 525. Conlin Wysocki recorded 477.
Indoor track
Watkins' varsity indoor track team competed in Division 2 Sectionals, Saturday, Feb. 11, with Patrick Hazlitt and Jacob Carocci each finishing first.
Carocci won first in the high jump (5'6"), while Hazlitt placed first in the 1600 meter run (4:28.48). Sam Hanley took third in the 600 meter run (1:31.21). Josh Updyke was fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.9), while Aaron Planty placed fifth in the 1600 meter run (4:48.59). Isobel Scheffey was seventh in the 55 meter dash (8.09).
Boys basketball
The Senecas' boys varsity basketball team fell to Southern Cayuga, Friday, Feb. 10. The final score was 68-59.
Max Schimizzi posted 20 points. Connor Seeley-Ion scored 19, followed by Alex Gibson with nine. Dayne Hughey recorded six points.
The Watkins Glen varsity basketball team beat Newfield, 47-44, Tuesday, Feb. 8.
In the lead was Schimizzi with 15 points. Seeley-Ion followed with 14 points. Michael Doane added nine, while Dayne Hughey scored five.
