SPORTS RECAP: Week of 4/12/17

Watkins Glen tennis tops Newark Valley, 5-2
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team beat Newark Valley, 5-2, Wednesday, April 5.
In singles, Clint Craven topped Alyssa Sepelak, 6-4, 6-0. Peter Sandritter won against Colby Davis, 6-2, 6-4. Dylan Morse beat Kaya Luciani, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Kendra Larson and Elise Allington defeated Alex Umiker and Natalie Shofkom, 6-0, 7-6. Tim Clifford and Ali LaMoreaux won against Hannah Crowningshield and Melinda Byrne, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
"Between some injuries and kids leaving for vacation, we had to shuffle the lineup a little bit this afternoon," said Coach Scott Morse. "I have been impressed to see these young players adapt in matches to very different styles of play so far this season."
Watkins' tennis team beat Odessa-Montour, 6-1, Monday, April 3.
Winning scores for the singles matches were: Craven, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4; Sandritter, 6-2, 6-0; and Morse, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, Jill Cantieni and Makenna Fraboni won, 6-4, 6-1. Larson and Elise Allington took a win 6-2, 6-0. Clifford and LaMoreaux's score was 6-0, 6-0.
Baseball
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team fell to Waverly, 16-3, Wednesday, April 5.
The combined Watkins-Odessa baseball team recorded six hits, with nine errors. Michael Doane was 2-for-3. Josh Updyke, Caleb Thomas, Derrick Lewis, and Justin Stutzman each posted one hit.
On the pitcher's mound, Isaac McIlroy had three strikeouts, while Thomas and Johnny Neidermaier both struck out one player.
The Seneca Indians beat Newark, 12-11, Monday, April 3.
Neidermaier posted three RBI's, with one hit. Thomas, Lewis, and Doane all earned two RBIs. Thomas and Sean Kelly also each recorded doubles.
Pitching, Updyke earned four strikeouts. Doane struck out three, while Austin Voorheis added one.
Lacrosse
The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team lost to Bath, 18-4, Monday, April 3.
Watkins led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. Dalton Cummings scored twice for Watkins, including the first goal of the game. Dylan Platon and Joe Chedzoy each scored and assisted once. Jackson Dunham assisted twice.

Dundee boys place second at track meet
RUSHVILLE--The Dundee boys varsity track team placed second and the girls fifth at a five-school meet, Tuesday, April 4, hosted by Marcus Whitman.
Josh Cramer finished second in the 110 meter hurdles (19.6) and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.64). Tyler Brace placed second in the triple jump (35'5") and fifth in the long jump (16'2"). Josh Kane placed second in the 800 meter run (2:29.54), while Leif Hoyt took second in the discus (95'1").
William Hall took second in the 200 meter dash (26.6), third in the 100 meter dash (12.8), third in the triple jump (34'10") and third in the long jump (17'3"). David Lamphier placed fourth in the long jump (16'3"), fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:01.3) and fifth in the high jump (5'4"). Billy Bowers finished fourth in the discus (91'11") and fourth in the pole vault (9'0").
Cameron Denmark was third in the shot put (31'11.5"), while Preston Cole followed in fifth (31'2"). Austin Brace was fifth in the triple jump (33'5.5"). Matt Wood took fifth in the 800 meter run (2:35.4).
For the girls, Karynna Rutledge was third in the high jump (4'0"). Whysper Davis placed eighth in the 400 meter dash (1:22.5), and ninth in the 800 meter run (3:23.94). Emily Oughterson took seventh in the long jump (12'5"), ninth in the 100 meter dash (16.1) and 10th in the 200 meter dash (36.2).
In the shot put, Tara Bowden finished eighth (20'0") and Hallie Knapp 10th (17'8.75"). Hallie Knapp was also ninth in the discus (48'1"), followed by Calley Knapp in 10th (44'4"). Allison Wilkerson was 10th in the 400 meter dash (1:23.9).

Hammondsport beats Bradford, 4-2
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport varsity baseball team topped Bradford, Monday, April 3. The final score was 4-2.
George Ruddy pitched for six innings, with nine strikeouts, two runs and two hits. Billy Whitney also struck out two.
Jake Peacock was 1-for-1, with a run scored. Whitney and Sam Zyla both recorded RBIs.
Peacock, Mike Beam and Luke Atkinson all posted hits. Beam also had two stolen bases, while Peacock and Ruddy both stole a base once.

Odessa boys place fourth at Elmira
ELMIRA-The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team took fourth at the Waite/Molnar Invitational, Saturday, April 8. The girls were seventh.
Zach Elliott won first in the shot put and second in the discus. Paden Grover was second in the high jump, while Andy Fudala took second in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the pole vault. Jeremiah Lynch placed third in the pole vault.
Jake Zimmer was fifth in the pole vault, while Preston Harris finished sixth in the long jump. In the steeplechase Nick Sgrecci was sixth and Alec Betts seventh. Eric Rumsey took 12th in the discus.
Tyler Carson finished 16th in the 400 meter hurdles. Cameron Pickering was 16th in the 400 meter dash and 16th in the long jump. Dylan Houseknect placed 17th in the shot put. Noah Brewster was 19th in the 1600 meter run.
Ryan Griswold placed 19th in the 400 meter hurdles. Clayton Zinger was 19th in the 800 meter run. Trevor Dunn took 20th in the 1600 meter run.
For the girls, Nadia Simpson placed third in the 100 meter dash and eighth in the high jump. Jaylin Rumsey was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Hannah Bruno took third in the triple jump and sixth in the 100 meter dash. Hailey Perraut was 11th in the triple jump and 12th in the shot put.
Hannah Chapman placed 12th in the high jump and 18th in the 400 meter dash. Casey Underdown finished 14th in the 3000 meter run. Megan Terry was 15th in the long jump, while Jacy Knapp was 17th. Leah Overheiser took 18th in the shot put and 19th in the discus. Alyssa Lindsley was 20th in the 400 meter dash.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team topped Newfield, 14-1, in a league game, Wednesday, April 5.
Breeana Bentley recorded three RBIs, with a single and a double. Isabel Foote, Dasia Herrmann, and Megan Jenkins each earned two RBIs, while Grace Vondracek and Grace Edger both had one. Heidi Casselberry earned three singles and three hits. Foote and Vondracek both had two singles.
Overall, the Indians posted 13 hits. While on the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out 10 players.
Tennis
The Indians' varsity tennis team defeated Union Springs, 6-1, Wednesday, April 5.
Curtis Harris beat Ian Park, 6-0, 6-2. Andy Doan topped Cassie Brown, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Cameron Adams defeated Michala Lawrence, 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, Mitchell Scata and Rhys Stermer won against Danielle Haff and Sierra Clark, 7-6 (8-6), 6-0. DeShawn Johnson and Noah Austin defeated Jacqueline Huber and Sarah Lutkens, 6-4, 6-2. Bronwyn Stermer and Nakisha Robinson topped Leland Sumner and Alyson Walters, 6-4, 6-3.
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team fell to Watkins Glen, 6-1, Monday, April 3.
The Indians win came from Harris, 6-2, 6-3. In singles, Billy Tague lost, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, as well as Doan, 6-2, 6-0, and Adams, 6-3, 6-1.
Scata and Rhys Stermer lost in doubles, 6-4, 6-1. Austin and Bromwyn Stermer fell, 6-2, 6-0. Jordan Robinson and Johnson were also beat, 6-0, 6-0.

Penn Yan defeats Carthage
CENTRAL SQUARE-The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team topped Carthage, 9-4, Saturday, April 8.
Conner Fingar led with three goals. Austin Blumbergs scored two goals, when Ben Emerson posted one goal and three assists. Colton Smith added one goal and one assist. Preston Pedersen and Will Rogers both scored once. In goal, Kyle Welker posted 11 saves.
The Mustangs lost to Palmyra-Macedon, Thursday, April 6. The final score was 8-7 in Pal-Mac's fourth straight win of the season.
Fingar scored twice. Emerson added one goal and two assists. Blumbergs, Dylan Stape, Rogers, and Smith each scored one. Goalie Welker had 11 saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team defeated Mynderse, 12-7, Wednesday, April 5.
Elissa Callaway led with four goals. Sydney Bloom and Hannah Keech both scored three goals, with an assist. Brenna Voigt recorded two goals and four assists. Sydney Hulse and Cassie Lafler both assisted once. In the goal, Alexandra Cox posted three saves and Hanna Brodman one save.
With the win, the Lady Mustangs' record is now 1-1.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team lost to Marcus Whitman, 4-1, Wednesday, April 5.
The Mustangs win came in the first singles match. Garrett Warren beat Sam Brown, 6-4, 6-4.
Blaise Cox lost, 6-2, 7-5. While Eden Slocum fell, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). In doubles, Jarett Alexander and Paul Pereira were beat 6-1, 7-5. The final score for Paul Gaston and Jeremy Fenton was 7-5, 6-2.
The Penn Yan tennis team beat Honeoye, 4-1, Tuesday, April 4.
Jack Arnold topped Chris Coriddi, 6-4, 6-3, while Warren won against Giovanni Gullace, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Slocum and Alexander beat Anh Le and Jenna Robinson, 6-2, 6-0. Pereira and Gaston defeated Peter VanHouten and Jeremy Gambel, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Track and field
The Penn Yan boys and girls varsity track and field teams took second in a five school meet held at Newark, Tuesday, April 4.
For the girls, Emma Harling won first in the shot put (29'8.75") and third in the discus (75'1"). Allyssa Johnson took second in the 400 meter dash (1:09.14) and third in the 200 meter dash (29.84). Joddie Decker placed second in the 1500 meter run (5:26.94) and third in the 800 meter run (2:47.34).
Alexis Condrey was fourth in the 100 meter dash (14.64), fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (19.24), and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:27.94). Maci Nicholson took third in the 3000 meter run (12:31.64) and fourth in the 1500 meter run (5:50.84).
Lydia Anderson finished second in the long jump (13'5.75"), third in the triple jump (28'6"), and fifth in the 200 meter dash (30.34). Katie Voak was fifth in the 800 meter run (2:53.44) and Lizzy Benson placed fifth in the triple jump (26'6.5").
For the boys, Kyle Ingerick took first in the long jump (17'4"), first in the triple jump (39'0"), second in the 100 meter dash (12.14), and second in the 200 meter dash (24.64). Ben DeMoras was second in the 800 meter run (2:19.14), second in the 3200 meter run (11:31.34), and third in the 1600 meter run (4:55.84). Jacob DeMay was second in the shot put (31'4.25").
Peyton Silliman placed fourth in the 3200 meter run (12:24.04) and fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:23.74). Riley Brittingham finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (22.34) and fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:32.94).
