SPORTS RECAP: Week of 4/26/17

Watkins Glen wins: track, lacrosse and baseball
BATH-The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams competed at the Ferd Stenta Invitational in Bath, Friday, April 21.
Shawn Rutledge placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a season best of 10:05.86 and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.98). Gabe Planty took first in the 1600 meter and earned the Tony Verage Mile Award for his time of 4:38.67. Patrick Hazlitt won the 400 meter dash (51.95).
Aaron Planty finished second in the 1600 meter run (4:44.89, a personal record) and seventh in the 800 meter (2:11.87). Daniel Paradiso was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:18.9). Casen Weeden, Hazlitt, Aaron Planty and Gabe Planty took second in 800 meter relay with 1:39.5, a school record.
Weeden also took seventh in the 200 meter dash (26.99). Sean Holland ran a season best times in the 3000 meter steeplecase (11:56.68) and the 400 meter (60.09).
For the girls, Kai Sutterby won first in the 800 meter run (2:38.86) and fifth in the 1500 meter run (5:45.82). The 800 meter relay team of Isobel Scheffey, Jena Slater, Haley Dean, and Allison Gibson placed second with a school record of 2:01.23, while the same group of runners posted a personal best in the 400 meter relay with a 59.14 time.
Allison Gibson was fourth in the long jump (14'4"). Scheffey took fifth in the 100 meter dash (13.8) and fifth in the 400 meter run (1:09.77). Haley Dean finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:22.22, a personal best). Slater also recorded a personal record for the season in the pole vault.
Lacrosse
The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team beat Marcus Whitman, Saturday, April 22. The final score was 12-10.
Jake Kelly scored four goals. Jackson Dunham and Joe Chedzoy both recorded three goals and one assist. Dalton Cummings had two goals and one assist, while Dylan Platon added an assist.
Chedzoy also won 17 of 19 faceoffs, and led the team with 14 ground balls. Reese Tague won two of six faceoffs. In goal, Kaitlyn Valla posted six saves.
Watkins earned its first win of the season, Friday, April 21, against Oneonta. The final score was 16-15.
Cummings had four goals and two assists, while Kelly scored four goals, with one assist. Chedzoy added three goals and four assists. Dunham and Seth Swinnerton both scored twice.
Chedzoy won 16 of 16 faceoffs and had 16 ground balls. In goal, Valla earned nine saves.
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team suffered a loss to Dryden, 17-6, Wednesday, April 19.
Chedzoy scored three goals. Dunham posted two goals, while Cummings had one. Platon contributed two assists, with one each by Chedzoy and Swinnerton. Chedzoy won 23 of 26 faceoffs for the Senecas, and led the team with 17 ground balls.
Baseball
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team topped Candor, 7-6, Tuesday, April 18.
The Watkins-Odessa team recorded eight hits.
Alex Grady had two hits and two doubles. Michael Doane posted two hits, while Derrick Lewis, Isaac McIlroy, Johnny Neidermaier, and Ben Matthews each had one hit. Lewis also earned two RBIs. Doane struck out six and Derrick Lewis five.
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team lost to Waverly twice in a doubleheader, Tuesday, April 18. The final scores were 20-0 and 15-0.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team lost to Thomas A. Edison, 5-2, Tuesday, April 18.
Dylan Morse topped Josh Anderson-Miller in singles. In doubles, Tim Clifford and Ali LaMoreaux beat Alex Alverson and Dylan VonNeida, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
Jill Cantieni fell, 6-1, 6-0, while Clint Craven lost, 6-2, 7-6(7-2). Peter Sandritter was beat, 7-5, 6-2. The final score for Megan Hazlitt and Makenna Fraboni was 6-2, 6-0. Kendra Larson and Elise Allington lost, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Senecas' record is now 3-2.
Boys Golf
The Watkins Glen varsity golf team lost to Newark Valley, Thursday, April 20. The final score was 238-224. Ryan Clark led the Senecas with a 41. Jacob Carocci had a 43.

Odessa track team competes at Bath; golf falls
BATH--The Odessa-Montour varsity track and field teams competed at the Ferd Stenta Invitational in Bath, Friday, April 21.
Nadia Simpson took second in the 100 meter dash (13.10), while Jaylin Rumsey took second in the discus (82'4.5") and fourth in the shot put (28'11"). Hannah Bruno placed third in the 400 meter run (1:07.66) and fifth in the triple jump (31'9").
Casey Underdown finished third in the 3000 meter run (12:11.40). Kennedey Heichel was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.80). Hannah Chapman took fifth in the high jump (4'4").
Zach Elliott was first in the discus (122'4") and third in the shot put (43'10.75"). Jeremiah Lynch was second in the pole vault (9'6"). Jacob Zimmer placed fourth in the pole vault (9'6"). Paden Grover took fifth in the high jump (5'4"). Nick Sgrecci finished sixth in the triple jump (35'8").
Girls golf
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity golf team lost to Waverly but beat Elmira and Spencer-Van Etten, Thursday, April 20.
The Indians scored a combined 227. Gillian Clark led with a 47. Catherine Rounds posted 55, followed by Gabby Fazzary with a 59. Eliza Starkweather recorded a 66.
Softball
The Odessa varsity softball team suffered a loss to Newark Valley, 16-4, Tuesday, April 18.
The Indians had four hits and eight errors. Dasia Herrmann, Isabel Foote, Grace Vondracek, and Lydia Lynch all posted hits. Vondracek, Breeana Bentley, and Megan Jenkins each had an RBI. Pitching, Vondraceck struck out seven.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team was beat by Elmira Notre Dame, 7-0, Tuesday, April 18.
In singles, the scores were: Curtis Harris, 6-4, 6-1 ; Billy Tague, 6-0, 6-4 ; Andy Doan, 6-0, 6-1 ; and Cameron Adams, 6-0, 6-0 .
The doubles scores were: Mitchell Scata and Rhys Stermer, 6-1, 6-0; Noah Austin and DeShawn Johnson, 6-3, 6-2 ; and Bronwyn Stermer and Nakiaha Robinson, 6-1, 6-1.

Penn Yan boys top Clarence; girls lose two games
PENN YAN--Penn Yan's boys varsity lacrosse team defeated Clarence in a non-league game, Saturday, April 22. The final score was 5-4.
Colton Smith scored three goals. Ben Emerson had one goal and three assists. Dylan Stape also scored once. Goalie Kyle Welker posted six saves.
The Mustangs' lacrosse team was beat by Canandaigua, 8-3, Tuesday, April 18.
Penn Yan scored early, but by halftime Canandaigua had tied the score, 2-2. Conner Finger, Austin Blumbergs, and Emerson each scored once. In the goal, Welker had 15 saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team fell to Ithaca in a non-league game, Saturday, April 22. The final score was 12-8. Individual stats were not reported.
The Lady Mustangs were beat by Webster Schroeder, 16-7, Wednesday, April 19.
Sydney Bloom led with three goals, followed by Hannah Keech with two. Brenna Voigt had one goal and two assists. Cassidy Prather posted one goal, while Elissa Callaway had an assist. In the goal, Alexandra Cox recorded five saves.
Track and field
The Penn Yan boys varsity track and field team finished eighth and the girls ninth at the Waterloo Spring Sensation, Thursday, April 20.
The 4x800 meter relay team (Jason Bogart, Daniel Jiang, Garrett Golden, and Emmanuel Morales) finished second in 10:35.29. The 4x400 meter relay team (Ben DeMoras, Kyle Ingerick, Golden, and Bogart) took sixth in 4:15.23.
DeMoras was second in the 3200 meter run (10:21.89) and second in the 1600 meter run (4:40.87). Ingerick took fifth in the long jump (18'5.5"), ninth in the 100 meter dash (12.01), and ninth in the 200 meter dash (24.28).
For the girls, the 4x400 meter relay team (Lydia Anderson, Alexis Condrey, Allyssa Johnson, and Katie Voak) was sixth in 4:51.94. Emma Harling won first in the shot put (32'3") and first in the discus (80'9"). Condrey took sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:07.42).
Voak was sixth in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:55.15). Anderson finished sixth in the triple jump (31'6") and seventh in the long jump (14'6.25").
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team fell to Westhill, 13-9, Friday, April 21.
Noah Detar had two hits with one RBI. Nick Hoover posted a hit, with three RBIs, while Robbie Wigsten also connected with a hit. Hoover had one stolen base.
The Mustangs blanked Bishop Grimes, 10-0, Thursday, April 20.
Jake Whitford batted in four runs, while Donny McMahon and Derrick Rivello each had two RBIs. Peyton Schuck and Kyle Miller both added an RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, Rivello posted two strikeouts.
Penn Yan's baseball team topped Sauquoit Valley, Wednesday, April 19. The final score was 12-8.
Whitford and Rivello both batted in two runs. John Travis, Bryce Johnson, McMahon, Hoover, Brandon Sherman, Wigsten, Detar, and Miller each added one RBI.
The baseball team was blanked by Sodus, 11-0, Tuesday, April 18.
McMahon posted the Mustangs' only hit. Pitching, Bryce Johnson struck out four.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team lost to Chase, Tuesday, April 18. The final score was 12-2. The Lady Mustangs scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Lady Mustangs were beat by Keyser, 24-9, Monday, April 17. No additional stats were reported.

Lakers compete at Bath
BATH--Hammondsport's varsity track and field teams competed in the Ferd Stenta Invitational at Bath, Friday, April 21.
Cameron Roote was fifth in the long jump (17'8"), while Grahan O'Donnell was sixth in the 200 meter dash (26.47). David Mitchell placed sixth in the 110 meter hurdles (18.25). Dillan Conley took seventh in the 1600 meter run (5:08.64). Jared Raab finished eighth in the 3200 meter run (11:17.41), followed by Tyler Hill in 10th (11:24.97).
For the girls, Aubrie Cole was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.86). Lauren Robbins took sixth in the long jump (13'9") and eighth in the 400 meter run (1:11.07). Natalie Lowin was 11th in the discus (60'0").
Caleigh Hunn placed 14th in the triple jump (24'11"). Luise Greszkowiak finished 13th in the long jump (12'5"). Elissa Martinez was 15th in the discus (54'11").
Baseball
The Hammondsport varsity baseball team lost to Prattsburgh in a home game, Friday, April 21. The final score was 12-2.
The Lakers posted nine hits, with four errors.
Hammondsport's baseball team fell to Arkport, 13-2, Wednesday, April 19.
Luke Atkinson earned one RBI. George Ruddy and Jackson Cummings both scored runs. Mike Beam pitched for five innings, with one strikeout. Luke Atkinson also pitched for an inning and struck out one.
"Arkport jumped out to an early lead, they hit the ball well," said Coach Dan Conley. "We made a few mistakes that capitalized on them. It's early in the season, we have a solid foundation to keep working on as we proceed through the rest of [the season]."
The Lakers were blanked by Avoca, 8-0, Tuesday, April 18. Hammondsport recorded three hits, from Jake Peacock, Ruddy, and Beam. On the pitcher's mound, Ruddy had three strikeouts.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team topped Campbell-Savona-Bradford, 3-2, Friday, April 21.
Colin Drain beat Ronni Robbins, 6-0, 6-0. Rhett Presler and Benjamin Fingar topped Hannah Berleue and Emilline Peck, 6-2, 6-1. Bryce Santacroce and Brenden Wagner won against Steve Ceasar and Kaleb Zimar, 6-3, 6-3.
In singles, Troy Sanford lost, 6-3, 6-1, and Tommy Morris fell, 6-4, 6-0.
Golf
The Hammondsport varsity golf team topped Canisteo-Greenwood, 34.5-20.5, Wednesday, April 19.
Parker Watson led the Lakers, tying for first with the lowest total (43). Matthew Cole had a 48, while Noah Wilkinson added a 51. Ben Cole earned a 56. Alex Davis had a 64.

Naples tops Dundee
The Dundee varsity softball team lost to Naples in a Monday, April 24 home game. The final score was 15-8. Dundee's Madison Neu was 3-for-4 at the plate. Xavia Miller was 2-for-4.
