SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5/3/17

Penn Yan girls top Aquinas, fall to Waterloo
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team topped Aquinas, 5-3, Saturday, April 29.
The Lady Mustangs led in the first half, 3-2. Elissa Callaway scored two goals. Sydney Bloom, Alli Olevnik, and Cassie Lafler each scored once. Brenna Voigt assisted twice. In goal, Alexandra Cox had 10 saves.
With the win, Penn Yan's record is now 3-5.
The Penn Yan girls lost to Waterloo, Thursday, April 27. The final score was 11-7.
Bloom recorded two goals and two assists, while Voigt posted two goals and one assist. Callaway, Olevnik, and Brooke Dinehart each scored once. Cox earned 11 saves.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team fell to St. Joseph, 11-4, Saturday, April 29.
Conner Fingar scored two goals. Will Rogers and Austin Blumbergs each had one goal. Dylan Stape assisted once. In goal, Kyle Welker had six saves.
With the loss, the Mustangs' record is 5-5.
Penn Yan defeated Livonia, 18-0, Tuesday, April 25. Blumbergs led with four goals and one assist. Fingar and Ben Emerson both posted three goals and two assists.
Jared Calice and Clay Kinyoun both scored twice. Colton Smith had one goal and one assist, while Rogers, Brandon Smith, and O`Brien Dailey all scored one. Stape contributed three assists.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team blanked Waterloo, 5-0, Friday, April 28.
Jack Arnold beat Patrick Lee, 6-0, 6-0. Garrett Warren defeated Trevor Sax, 6-2, 6-0. Lukas Spears won by forfeit.
Eden Slocum and Jarett Alexander beat Evan Tumbiolo and Brad McCarthy, 6-0, 6-0. Paul Pereira and Blaise Cox topped Brandon Jaycox and Joe Colegrove, 6-0, 6-0.
The Mustangs' tennis team beat Midlakes, 4-1, Thursday, April 27.
Arnold beat Gavin Record, 6-4, 7-5. Spears defeated Bryce Norsen, 6-0, 6-0. Warren lost, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
Slocum and Alexander topped Daniel Hammond and Jared Jensen, 6-0, 6-4. Cox and Pereira won against Tyler Boylan and Leslie Holcomb, 7-6(7-5), 6-3.
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team topped Geneva, 9-1, Friday, April 28.
Noah Detar and Donny McMahon were both 2-for-3. McMahon posted three RBIs, while Peyton Schuck had two. John Travis, Bryce Johnson, and Brandon Sherman all added one RBI.
Penn Yan topped Wayne, Thursday, April 28. The final score was 22-1.
Derrick Rivello and Schuck both earned three RBIs. Travis, McMahon, Nick Hoover, Robbie Wigsten, and Jake Whitford all had two RBIs. Travis and Wigsten both recorded home runs.
The Penn Yan baseball team fell to Mynderse, 10-9, Wednesday, April 26.
Detar posted two hits with three RBIs, while McMahon added two hits with two RBIs.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team lost a Monday, April 24 away game against Newark by a score of 11-9. Individual stats were not reported.
Track and field
The Penn Yan varsity track and field teams competed in the Lyons Invitational, Friday, April 28.
For the girls, Joddie Decker won the 1500 meter run (5:19.60) and was second in the 3000 meter run (11:26.11). Maci Nicholson took first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:11.62), while Emma Harling finished second in the shot put (32').
Lydia Anderson placed sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:09.18). Maricruz Morales was sixth in the 1500 meter run (5:54.78). Katie Voak was sixth in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:55.86).
For the boys, Ben DeMoras was first in the 1600 meter run (4:46.74) and first in the 3200 meter run (10:29.80). Peyton Silliman took fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:30.60). Kyle Ingerick placed fourth in the 400 meter dash (55.04).

Dundee track, field teams compete at Lyons, Dundee
LYONS-The Dundee varsity track and field teams competed at the Lyons Invitational, Friday, April 28.
Wylie Hall took third in the 200 meter dash (24.71), fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.88), seventh in the long jump (18'8.25"), and seventh in the triple jump (38'.5"). Sam Richards placed third in the pole vault (10'6"). Josh Cramer took fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (18.95) and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.56).
Billy Bowers was fifth in the pole vault (10'0"). Tyler Brace finished sixth in the long jump (18'8.75"), while Cameron Denmark placed sixth in the discus (104'0"). Matt Wood was sixth in the 1600 meter run (5:07.74), and seventh in the 800 meter run (2:17.51). David Lamphier and Julian Ortiz both tied for seventh in the high jump (5'4").
For the girls, Madison Everetts took 17th in the 800 meter run (3:13.55). Allison Wilkerson was 15th in the 400 meter dash (1:16.45) and 20th in the 200 meter dash (33.22).
The Scots' boys varsity track and field team took second and the girls fifth in a home meet, Tuesday, April 25.
Hall placed first in the 100 meter dash (11.97), first in the 200 meter dash (24.37), first in the long jump (19'4.25"), and second in the triple jump (39'2.5"). Cramer was second in the 110 meter hurdles (19.20) and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.95). Lamphier was first in the high jump (5'8").
Richards took second in the pole vault (10'6"), while Wood took third in the 1600 meter run (5:08.11). Ortiz placed second in the high jump (5'4"). Bowers was third in the pole vault (10'0"). Brace finished third in the triple jump (38'4.75").
For the girls, Karynna Rutledge took fifth in the 400 meter dash (1:15.88). Tara Bowden was fifth in the discus (60'11"). Emily Oughterson placed sixth in the long jump (11'8.25"). Elizabeth Medina took seventh in the triple jump (24'8.75") and seventh in the long jump (11'8").

Hammondsport baseball team falls to Campbell; tennis tops Addison
CAMPBELL-The Hammondsport varsity baseball team lost to Campbell-Savona, 5-3, Thursday, April 27.
Cameron McConnell and George Ruddy were both 2-for-3. Ruddy also earned two RBIs. Sam Zyla was 1-for-3, with an RBI. Mike Beam and Jake Peacock had one hit each.
The Lakers baseball team lost to Marcus Whitman, 14-4, Wednesday, April 26.
Hammondsport had four hits and eight errors. McConnell was 2-for-3 at bat, while Billy Whitney was 2-for-4, with an RBI. Zyla was 1-for-3. Peacock was 1-for-4, with an RBI and a double.
Hammondsport fell to Alfred-Almond, Tuesday, April 25. The final score was 8-0. Peacock had the Lakers' lone hit.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team blanked Addison, Thursday, April 27. The final score was 5-0.
Troy Sanford topped Jesse Plumley, 6-1, 6-7(7-9), 7-5. Tommy Morris defeated Spencer Baker-Hibbard, 6-0, 6-0. Colin Drain beat David Howe, 6-0, 6-0.
Benjamin Fingar and Rhett Presler defeated Matthew Strauss and Tyler Housel, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Brenden Wagner and Bryce Santacroce beat Blake Driskell and Hjalmer Jacobson, 6-4, 6-1.
Golf
The Lakers' varsity golf team lost to Wellsville, 28.5-26.5, Tuesday, April 25.
Parker Watson led with a 48. Matthew Cole had a 50. Ben Cole and Nigel Snyder both posted 54. Alex Davis earned 58.
Hammondsport topped Jasper-Troupsburg, Monday, April 24. The final score was 29-26.
Watson posted the lowest score of the match, with a 45. Cole followed with a 50. Lucas Robords added a 57. Ben Cole and John Wright both golfed a 61.
Track and field
The Hammondsport boys varsity track and field teams beat Campbell-Savona and Avoca in a home meet, Monday, April 24.
The Lakers beat Campbell-Savona, 68-55, and Avoca, 73-67.
Jared Raab took first in the 400 meter dash (56.0) and second in the 3200 meter run (11:29.9). Cameron Roote was first in the long jump (18'2"), second in the high jump (5'4"), and third in the 100 meter (18.8). Dillan Conley won first in the 1600 meter run (5:10.3). Thomas Kressly finished first in the 3200 meter run (11:04.4).
James Kolo placed second in the shot put (41'3"). Nicco Byer took second in the 110 meter hurdles (19.9) and second in the 400 IH (1:07.9). Graham O'Donnell finished second in the 200 meter dash (24.9). Max DeHey was third in the long jump (16'), while Marshall Mulholland took third in the discus (86'10"). John Wells was third in the high jump (5'2").

Odessa-Montour softball team wins three games
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team beat Watkins Glen, 8-4, Saturday, April 29.
The Indians posted 10 hits, with three errors. Isabel Foote, Dasia Herrmann, Kaylee Dudgeon, and Emma Lodge all earned one RBI.
Lydia Lynch recorded a triple, while Grace Vondracek had two singles. Foote, Herrmann, Breanna Bentley, Alyssa Crout, Heidi Casselberry, Lynch, and Dudgeon each had a single.
The Indians' varsity softball team blanked Candor, 7-0, Thursday, April 27.
Odessa earned seven hits. Vondracek was 3-for-4. Bentley was 1-for-3, with two RBIs. Herrmann was 2-for-4, while Crout was 1-for-4, with an RBI. Vondracek also had 11 strikeouts while pitching.
Odessa defeated Newfield, 22-0, Wednesday, April 26. The Indians posted 11 hits.
Crout had three hits, while Vondracek and Bentley both earned two. Vondracek had a home run and triple, while Bentley posted two doubles. Crout added three singles.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team lost to Thomas A. Edison, 5-2, Thursday, April 27.
The Indians wins came in singles. Curtis Harris beat Zach Root, 6-0, 6-0. Cameron Adams topped Cody Crown, 6-3, 6-0. Billy Tague lost, 6-2, 6-3. Andy Doan fell, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.
The doubles scores were: Mitchell Scata and Rhys Stermer, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1; Noah Austin and DeShawn Johnson, 6-1, 6-2; and Bronwyn Stermer and Nakiaha Robinson, 6-3, 6-0.
The Odessa tennis team was beat by Waverly, 6-1, Wednesday, April 26. In doubles, Austin and Johnson topped Sunshyne Lynch and Haley Onofre, 7-5, 6-2.
The other scores were: Harris, 6-4, 6-4; Tague, 6-3, 6-4; Doan, 6-1, 6-1; Adams, 7-5, 6-3; Scata and Rhys Stermer, 6-3, 6-4; and Bronwyn Stermer and Robinson, 6-1, 6-1.
Odessa's tennis team won against Moravia, 5-2, Tuesday, April 25.
Harris beat Garrett Stoyell, 6-0, 6-4. Tague topped Jared Justain, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. Doan beat Noah Raymond, 6-2, 6-0. Adams defeated Kelsey Nelson, 6-2, 6-1.
Bronwyn Stermer and Robinson won against Jenna Powers and Aaron Ammerman, 6-3, 6-1.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team took 12th and the girls 14th at the Moravia Relays, Saturday, April 29.
The boys freshman/sophomore sprint medley relay team took first in 4:05.89. The discus team was second with a combined distance of 230'8". The Indians took third in the high jump relay with a combined height of 10'6" and fifth in the shot put relay with a combined distance of 71'6".
For the girls, the triple jump relay team placed third (57'9").

Watkins Glen softball loses; tennis team wins
WATKINS GLEN--Watkins' varsity softball team suffered a loss to Odessa-Montour, 8-4, Saturday, April 29.
The team had four hits. Mikenna Ayers posted two RBIs and one hit, while Brienna Soloman earned one RBI and two hits. Katlyn Kernan also had a hit.
On the pitcher's mound, Claudia Parker struck out four.
The varsity softball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten, 10-8, Friday, April, 28.
Watkins had the lead at 8-7 after six innings. However, Spencer tied the score with two outs in the top half of the seventh and then scored two from a home run and an error. The Senecas earned nine hits total, with four errors.
The Watkins' softball team won its second game of the season against Newfield, Tuesday, April 26. The final score was 15-0.
The Senecas scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early. Watkins posted 15 hits.
Kelsey Kernan had one hit and three RBIs. Katlyn Kernan earned three hits and four RBIs. Solomon had two hits and two RBIs, while Kate Losey had two hits, with one RBI.
Ayers and Amber Benjamin both had two hits and one RBI. Cierra Barber recorded three hits and one RBI and Kendra Cornish posted one hit, with two RBIs.
Watkins topped Newark Valley, 10-8, Tuesday, April 25.
Solomon was 2-for-4, with one run. Ayers posted two RBIs, while Barber had three hits.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team beat Union Springs, Friday, April 28. The final score was 5-2.
Nate Wickham topped Michela Lawrence 6-2, 6-2. Dylan Morse beat Danielle Haff 6-0, 6-3.
Megan Hazlitt and Makenna Fraboni defeated Sierra Clark and Madison Gannon, 6-1, 6-0. Bryson Simmons and Elise Allington beat Alyson Walters and Victoria Lopez, 6-1, 6-1. Tim Clifford and Ali LaMoreaux topped Maike LaRue and Dakota Jackson, 6-0, 6-0.
Watkins' Jill Cantieni lost, 6-2 6-1, while Clint Craven also fell.
The Watkins tennis team was beat by Trumansburg, 5-2, Wednesday, April 26.
Wickham beat Mitchell Denmen, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Morse defeated Jared Everhart, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
The losing scores for the Senecas were: Cantieni, 6-1, 7-6, (7-1); Craven, 6-0, 6-1; Hazlitt and Fraboni, 6-2, 6-4; Simmons and Allington, 6-3, 6-3; and Clifford and LaMoreaux, 4-6, 6-4(10-8)
Baseball
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team beat Dryden, 2-1, Saturday, April 29.
Josh Updyke was 2-for-3, with a run. Caleb Thomas and Sean Kelly were both 1-for-2, while Johnny Neidermaier posted the fifth hit. Austin Voorheis had two strikeouts on the pitcher's mound.
The combined Watkins-Odessa baseball team beat Spencer-Van Etten, 5-4, Friday, April 28.
Thomas was 3-for-3, with one RBI. Kelly was 2-for-3, also posting an RBI. Alex Grady was 1-for-2, with two RBIs. Updyke and Derrick Lewis each also earned a hit.
Kelly and Grady both earned doubles. On the pitcher's mound, Micheal Doane struck out five. Thomas and Updyke both had one strikeout.
The Seneca Indians fell to Waverly, Wednesday, April 26. The final score was 6-1.
Thomas posted one RBI. Grady had two hits, while Andrew Ink and Kelly each also earned a hit.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen boys varsity track and field team placed fifth in the Moravia Relays, Saturday, April 29. The girls finished ninth out of 20 teams in the all relay event.
The 6400 meter relay team (Patrick Hazlitt, Aaron Planty, Gabe Planty, and Shawn Rutledge) placed first in 18:23.18, a new school record. Hazlitt, Dan Paradiso, Aaron Planty, and Rutledge took first in the distance medley relay setting a new school record in that event with a time of 11:45.43. The 3200 meter relay team of Paradiso, Alex Schimizzi, Sean Holland and Rutledge was second in a time of 9:45.
The 800 meter relay team (Hazlitt, Casen Weeden, Aaron Planty, and Gabe Planty) took fourth in 1:44.4. The freshman/sophomore sprint medley relay team of Weeden, Colin Gaylord, Elliott Holland, and Gabe Planty finished fourth with a time of 4:20.31.
For the girls, the sprint medley relay team (Isobel Scheffey, Allison Gibson, Kai Sutterby, and Haley Dean) won first with a time of 4:51.11. The distance medley relay team (Scheffey, Julya Slater, Sutterby, and Dean) took fourth in 15:00.96. The 800 meter relay team of Scheffey, Gibson, Jena Slater, and Dean placed seventh in 2:00.74, breaking their own record by a second.
The long jump relay team of Gibson and Dean placed sixth with a combined jump of 26'4.25". The high jump team of Julya Slater and Gibson placed sixth with a combined height of 4'3".
Boys golf
The Watkins Glen boys varsity golf team qualified to advance to team sectionals with two wins, on Friday, April 28, and Thursday, April 27. The score to qualify was 220 or less.
The Senecas beat Trumansburg, 217-319, on Friday, April 28.
Ryan Clark led with a 40, including two birdies. Patrick Bannon scored a 41. Sam Hanley added 42, including one birdie. Alex Gibson had a 44, while Jacob Carocci posted 50.
Watkins topped Spencer-Van Etten, 220-243, on Thursday.
Clark posted a 40, followed by Hanley with 43. Max Schimizzi and Carocci both posted a 44. Gibson had a 49.
The Watkins Glen boys varsity golf team beat Waverly, 240-259, Monday, April 24.
Clark had a 41. Gibson recorded 48. Hanley and Carocci both followed with 50, while Schimizzi added 51.
Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team beat Oneonta in an away game, Friday, April 28. The final score was 15-14.
Jackson Dunham scored five goals, with two assists. Jake Kelly posted three goals and one assist. Joe Chedzoy recorded two goals and an assist, plus won 23 faceoffs.
Dylan Platon scored twice. Avery Watson and Seth Swinnerton had one goal and two assists. Dalton Cummings earned one goal and an assist. In goal, Kaitlyn Valla recorded eight saves.
The Senecas fell to Chenango Forks, 22-1, Tuesday, April 25. Chedzoy scored the lone goal, with an assist from Cummings.
