SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5/10/17

Planty, Hazlitt win races at Odessa-Montour meet
ODESSA--The Watkins Glen boys varsity track and field team placed sixth overall at the Legends of the Night meet, Friday, May 5.
Aaron Planty won first in the 1600 meter run (4:35.77). Patrick Hazlitt placed first in the 800 meter run (1:58.49). Gabe Planty finished second in the 3200 meter run (9:44.56). Shawn Rutledge took fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.97).
The 1600 meter relay team (Gabe Planty, Hazlitt, Casen Weeden, and Aaron Planty) placed fourth in 3:43.78.
For the girls, Kai Sutterby took eighth in the 800 meter run (2:39.94). Jena Slater was 10th in the pole vault (7'0"). Allison Gibson placed 10th in the long jump (13'11.75"), 12th in the high jump (4'4"), and 17th in the 200 meter dash (30.88).
The Watkins track and field teams both lost to Waverly, Tuesday, May 2. The boys fell, 101-38, and girls lost, 101-39.
Hazlitt won first in the 200 meter in (23.7) and first in the 3200 meter in 10:34.3. Weeden took first in the discus (97'8"), second in the shot put (35'8"), and third in the 100 meter dash (12.5). Rutledge placed first in the 1600 meter run (5:09) and second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.1)
Aaron Planty finished first in the 400 meter run (54.9) and third in the 3200 meter run (10:40.9). Gabe Planty was second in the 3200 meter run (10:40.7). Sean Holland placed third in the 400 meter dash (1:00.9), while Alex Schimizzi took third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.9).
For the girls, Isobel Scheffey was first in the 100 meter dash (13.7), first in the 400 meter relay, and second in the 200 meter run. Julya Slater took first in the 3000 meter run (12:27.4, a personal record) and third in the 1500 meter run (6:01). Jena Slater placed first in the 400 meter relay and first in the pole vault (6'6").
Gibson was first in the 400 meter relay, second in the long jump (13'7"), and second in the high jump (4'4"). Haley Dean finished first in the 400 meter relay, second in the 400 meter hurdles, and third in the long jump (13'1"). Sutterby won first in the 800 meter run (2:37.2).
Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team beat Seton Catholic, 16-13, Thursday, May 4.
Dalton Cummings, Jackson Dunham, Jake Kelly, and Dylan Platon all scored three goals each. Joe Chedzoy added two goals. Avery Watson and Jake Johnson both posted one goal.
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team was blanked by Union Springs, Thursday, May 4. The final score was 14-0.
Katheryn Losey was 2-for-3. Claudia Parker was 1-for-3.
Baseball
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team fell to Union Springs, 13-4, Friday, May 5.
Derrick Lewis was 2-for-2 for the merged Watkins-Odessa team. Lewis also posted two RBIs and a double. Micheal Doane also earned an RBI.
Doane, Justin Lodge, and Josh Updyke were all 1-for-2, while Sean Kelly and Alex Grady were both 1-for-3.
The Seneca Indians lost to Thomas A. Edison, 12-5, Wednesday, May 3.
Austin Voorheis and Isaac McIlroy both had one RBI. Josh Updyke, McIlroy, and Sean Kelly all posted two hits.
Pitching, Voorheis struck out two. Lewis and McIlroy each struck out one.
The Watkins/Odessa baseball team topped Elmira Notre Dame, Tuesday, May 2. The final score was 9-4.
Caleb Thomas was 2-for-3, with three RBIs. Doane also posted two RBIs, while Johnny Neidermaier and McIlroy each had one RBI.
Pitching, Doane struck out four. Updyke also had a strikeout.
Girls golf
The Watkins Glen girls golf team topped three other local teams in a home match, Wednesday, May 3.
The Senecas led with a team score of 209. Horseheads followed with 216. Odessa-Montour posted a 218 and Marathon was fourth with 242.
Player scores were not provided.
Boys golf
The Watkins Glen boys varsity golf team beat Lansing, 225-235, Thursday, May 4.
Sam Hanley led with a 38. Ryan Clark recorded 42, while Patrick Bannon added 46. Alex Gibson golfed a 49 and Jacob Carocci had a 50.
The Senecas' record is now 9-1 overall.
The Watkins Glen boys varsity golf team topped Odessa-Montour, Wednesday, May 3, in the annual match between the two Schuyler County rivals.
The final score was 240-277, with Clark leading the Senecas with a 38, winning the right to wear the green jacket. Also for Watkins, Gibson posted a 48. Hanley had a 50, while Max Schimizzi added a 51.
The boys golf team topped Tioga, 212-214, Tuesday, May 2.
Schimizzi led with a score of 40. Clark and Carocci both followed with 41. Hanley and Gibson each recorded a 45.

Fudala, Elliott take first at 'Legends' meet
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team took second and the girls fifth in the Indians' Legends of the Night meet, Friday, May 5.
Andy Fudala took first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.32), first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.03), and second in the pole vault (12'0"). Zach Elliott finished first in the discus (140'1") and first in the shot put (44'1"). Paden Grover was second in the high jump (5'6").
Noah Brewster was sixth in the 3200 meter run (11:06.47). Jake Zimmer took sixth in the pole vault (9'6"), while Jeremiah Lynch followed in eighth (9'6"). Andy Hartford placed ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.51). Nick Sgrecci took 10th in the triple jump (35'175").
For the girls, Nadia Simpson won second in the 100 meter dash (13.09), second in the 200 meter dash (28.18), and eighth in the high jump (4'6"). Hannah Bruno was fourth in the triple jump (31'2"). Jaylin Rumsey finished fourth in the shot put (30'10.5") and sixth in the discus (81'9").
Casey Underdown placed fifth in the 3000 meter run (12:01.24). Kennedey Heichel took seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (18.20), seventh in the pole vault (7'6"), and eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.74). Hannah Chapman was ninth in the high jump (4'6").
Girls golf
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity golf team placed third of four schools, Wednesday, May 3.
The Indians totaled 218. Gillian Clark and Catherine Rounds led with a 48. Gabby Fazzary had a 60. Eliza Starkweather followed with 62, while Jackie Vincent posted a 67.
Boys golf
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity golf team lost to Watkins Glen, 240-277, in the annual match between the two Schuyler County rivals.
Brandon Ray led the Indians with a 50. Tyler Saunders posted a 53, followed by Trey McCarty with 54. Jon Andrews earned a 55. Colton Chapman a 65.
The Indians fell to Waverly, Tuesday, May 2. The final score was 253-309. Ray led with a 56. Andrews posted 57.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team topped Spencer-Van Etten, 6-4, Wednesday, May 3.
The Indians posted four hits. Grace Vondracek and Heidi Casselberry both had one RBI each. Vondracek, Casselberry, Breeana Bentley, and Alyssa Crout each earned a single. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek had 15 strikeouts.
The Indians softball team beat Candor, 7-6, Tuesday, May 2.
Vondracek was 4-for-4 at bat. Bentley and Crout both posted two RBIs. Isabel Foote earned a triple, while Vondracek, Bentley, and Casselberry each had a double. On the mound, Vondracek posted 13 strikeouts.

Dundee girls face Marcus Whitman in doubleheader
DUNDEE--The Lady Scots varsity softball team recorded a win and a loss against Marcus Whitman in a doubleheader, Wednesday, April 3.
In the first game, Dundee blanked Marcus Whitman, 10-0. Mercedes Roy was 2-2. Madison Neu was 1-for-2, with a double. Madison Hill also had a double.
Dundee lost the second game, 11-3. Makenzie Strait and Neu were both 1-for-2.
Baseball
The Dundee boys varsity baseball team lost to Marcus Whitman, 13-8, Wednesday, May 3.
The Scots posted eight hits to the Wildcats' six. Ryan Prior and Michael Hand each earned two hits. Brayden Eatherton posted two RBI's.
With the loss, Dundee's record is 0-9.
Track and field
Dundee's boys varsity track and field team finished 15th at the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 5.
Wylie Hall took sixth in the 100 meter dash (12.12), sixth in the long jump (19'5.5"), eighth in the triple jump (38'5.75") and 10th in the 200 meter dash (24.86). Tyler Brace was sixth in the high jump (5'3"). Leif Hoyt placed eighth in the discus (109'10"). Austin Brace finished ninth in the high jump (5'0").
Although the girls didn't place as a team, they did compete. Hallie Knapp took 20th in the long jump (12'11") and 29th in the discus (50'4"). Emily Oughterson was 22nd in the long jump (12'8") and 29th in the 100 meter dash (15.72).
Dundee's boys took third and the girls fifth in a five school meet held at Bloomfield, Tuesday, May 2.
Tyler Brace placed first in the long jump (18'6") and third in the triple jump (35'11.5"). Hall was second in the 100 meter dash (12.17), second in the 200 meter dash (25.26), second in the long jump (17'8.75"), and second in the triple jump (38'4.5").
Billy Bowers took third in the 400 meter dash (58.14). Josh Cramer finished third in the 110 meter hurdles (19.21) and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.17).
For the girls, Tara Bowden finished third in the discus (63'3") and eighth in the shot put (20'1.5"). Karynna Rutledge took fifth in the high jump (3'9") and 10th in the long jump (10'7.75").
Erika Gould placed seventh in the discus (53'8") and seventh in the shot put (20'7.5"). Oughterson was seventh in the long jump (11'10"). Knapp took eighth in the discus (48'9"). Ella Pollack was eighth in the long jump (11'10").
Allison Wilkerson and Madison Everetts both competed in the 400 meter dash. They finished in ninth and 11th respectively. Their times were 1:19.49 and 1:27.97.

Penn Yan baseball, softball teams fall to Wayne
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity baseball team lost to Wayne, Thursday, May 4. The final score was 8-6.
Penn Yan posted nine hits, to Wayne's seven. Donny McMahon was 3-for-4, while Peyton Schuck was 2-for-5 and Jake Whitford was 2-for-3. Whitford, Schuck, Drew Wertman, Nick Hoover, and Robbie Wigsten all earned one RBI each.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team lost to visiting Wayne, Thursday, May 4. The final score was 20-11.
The Lady Mustangs were blanked by Waterloo, Monday, May 2. The final score was 8-0.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team placed seventh and the boys 11th overall in the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 5.
Joddie Decker won first in the 3000 meter run (11:18.74). Emma Harling finished first in the shot put (31'11.5"). Maci Nicholson took second in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:14.54).
Lydia Andersen was ninth in the long jump (14'5.75") and 10th in the triple jump (31'6.5"). The 4x400 meter relay team (Maricruz Morales, Katie Voak, Andersen, and Alexis Condrey) placed fourth in 4:44.35.
Ben DeMoras took first in the 1600 meter run (4:46.96) and second in the 800 meter run (2:10.19). Peyton Silliman finished sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:47.31).
Kyle Ingerick placed eighth in the long jump (18'7") and ninth in the triple jump (37'9.75"). Riley Brittingham was 10th in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:02.03).
The 4x400 meter relay team (Jason Bogart, Garrett Golden, Ingerick, and DeMoras) was seventh with a time of 4:05.34.
The Penn Yan girls track and field teams took third, while the the boys were fourth, in a four-team meet held at Marion, Tuesday, May 2.
For the girls, Decker finished first in the 3000 meter run (11:55.81), first in the 1500 meter run (5:23.54), and second in the 800 meter run (2:43.64). Harling was first in the discus (84'6") and second in the shot put (31'7.75").
Condrey took second in the 100 meter dash (14.38). Nicholson placed second in the 1500 meter run (5:32.41) and third in the 3000 meter run (12:21.24). Anderson was third in the long jump (15'5").
For the boys, Ingerick took first in the 100 meter dash (11.96), first in the 200 meter dash (25.18), second in the long jump (18'10"), and second in the triple jump (38'9"). DeMoras placed first in the 800 meter run (2:19.05), second in the 1600 meter run (4:54.76), and second in the 3200 meter run (10:51.81). Brittingham finished third in the 110 meter hurdles (22.39), and third in the high jump (4'9"). Silliman was third in the 3200 meter run (11:50.38).
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team topped Erie Prep, 14-4, Saturday, May 6.
Conner Fingar led with four goals and three assists. Ben Emerson also scored four goals.
Dylan Stape posted two goals and three assists. Austin Blumbergs had two goals and two assists. Colton Smith scored twice. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun recorded six saves. Kyle Welker added two saves.
The Mustangs were beat by Fairport, 7-4, Thursday, May 4.
Blumbergs led with two goals and two assists. Colton Smith and Brandon Smith both scored once. Emerson assisted twice. In goal, Kinyoun and Welker both posted five saves.
Girls lacrosse
Penn Yan's girls varsity lacrosse team beat Marcus Whitman in a home game, Friday, May 5. The final score was 12-4.
Hannah Keech led with four goals and one assist. Brenna Voigt had two goals and three assists, while Elissa Callaway also earned two goals and two assists. Devin Stahlman and Sydney Bloom both scored twice. In goal, Alexandra Cox posted eight saves.
The Lady Mustangs topped Gananda, 20-3, Wednesday, May 3. Keech scored five goals and had six assists. Callaway added four goals and two assists, while Bloom scored four goals. Voigt posted two goals and two assists.
Allison Dixon earned two goals. Brooke Dinehart, Sydney Hulse, and Alli Olevnik all scored once. Stahlman added two assists, while Emalee-Rose Brockman assisted once. Hanna Brodman had five saves in goal and Cox had four.
Penn Yan won against Newark, Tuesday, May 2. The final score was 13-3.
Callaway and Voigt both had four goals. Callaway also posted an assist. Keech had three goals and two assists. Bloom and Olevnik both scored once. Cassie Lafler added two assists. In goal, Cox had two saves and Brodman had one save.

Hammondsport falls to Marcus Whitman
RUSHVILLE-The Hammondsport boys varsity baseball team lost to Marcus Whitman, 6-3, Thursday, May 4.
Jake Peacock was 2-for-3, with an RBI. Jackson Cummings was 2-for-4, with one RBI, while George Ruddy was also 2-for-4. Kristian Rice added a double.
The Lakers lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, Monday, May 1. The final score was 9-1.
Luke Atkinson posted the team's one RBI. Ruddy and Sam Zyla were both 2-for-3. Peacock, Brayden Whitcomb, and Billy Whitney also had one hit each.
