SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10/11/17

Odessa-Montour girls soccer wins two games
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity soccer team beat Newfield, 5-0, Thursday, Oct. 5.
Four goals were scored by Alexis Saunders and one by Kennedey Heichel. Assisting in the game were Olivia Grover, Hailey Perraut and Heichel.
Grace Vondracek and Hunter Daugherty each had two saves.
The girls soccer team defeated Tioga, 5-0, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Saunders scored three goals with Autumn Garrison and Heichel providing assists. Grover and Catherine Rounds also scored, with assists from Saunders and Heichel respectively.
Vondracek posted six saves.
Volleyball
Odessa-Montour's varsity volleyball team fell to Newfield, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16, Thursday, Oct. 5.
Izzy Foote had two aces, one kill, 11 digs and eight service points. Taylor Alton posted five digs and four service points. Cheyenne Barrett earned two aces, one kill, seven digs and three service points. Jacy Knapp contributed one ace, one assist, six digs and three service points. Rhys Stermer has two wills, 13 digs, and two service points.
The Indians fell to Waverly, 25-7, 25-6, 25-7, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Barrett had two digs and two service points, while Alton also posted two service points. Stermer had one assist, one kill, and 10 digs. Knapp contributed two assists, one kill, and four digs.
Boys soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity soccer team fell to Trumansburg in an away game, Friday, Oct. 6. The final score was 6-0.
The Indians lost to Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 7-2, Wednesday, Oct. 4. Noah Austin and Curtis Harris each scored for Odessa.
Girls swimming
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team topped Whitney Point, 54-39, Thursday, Oct. 5.
Kara Reese placed first in the 200 IM (2:48.89) and first in the 100 backstroke (1:19.83). Tori Reese was first in the 500 freestyle (6:14.66) and first in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.71). Haley Hoose took first in the 100 freestyle (1:07.35). Emilee Chaffinch finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:24.75) and second in the 50 freestyle (33.87). Megan Adams was second in the 500 freestyle (6:55.54) and second in the 200 freestyle (2:37.61). Lydia Lynch was second in the 100 butterfly (1:23.13).
The Indians fell to Lansing, 56-35, in a home meet, Wednesday, Oct. 4.
Tori Reese finished first in the 200 IM (2:29.86) and first in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.86). Kara Reese was first in the 100 backstroke (1:18.43).
Chaffinch took second in the 200 freestyle (2:46.87) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:18.43). Taryn Hoyt placed second in the 100 breaststroke (2:02.35).


Watkins boys fall to Newark Valley; volleyball wins
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen boys soccer team lost to Newark Valley, 4-2, Wednesday, Oct. 4. Tristan Yuhasz and Josiah Wysocki scored for Watkins.
The Senecas' soccer team lost to Notre Dame, Monday, Oct. 2. The final score was 8-0. In goal, Simon Wigmore had 29 saves.
Volleyball
The Watkins Glen varsity volleyball team beat Dryden in three sets, Thursday, Oct. 5. The final scores were 25-10, 25-13, 25-14.
Hanley Elliott posted six aces, five assists, one kill, and six service points. Megan Hazlitt had one ace, five kills, two blocks, and one service point, while Emmie Bond added two aces, one kill, one block, and six service points. Katie Losey contributed one assist and five kills.
Girls soccer
The Watkins Glen girls varsity soccer team fell to Waverly, Thursday, Oct. 5. The final score was 10-2. Haley Dean and Isobel Scheffey scored for the Senecas. In goal, Cierra Barber earned 32 saves.
Watkins' soccer team lost to Notre Dame, 3-2, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Hannah Morse and Ryanna LaMoreaux each scored. The team also had two corner kicks. Barber registered 30 saves in goal.
"I really like the way the girls are playing right now and I am still very confident we will make post season sectionals," said Coach Scott Morse.
Girls swimming
The Senecas' varsity swim team beat Dryden, 100-78, in an away meet, Friday, Oct. 6.
Peighton Cervoni placed first in the 200 IM (2:36.69) and second in the 100 freestyle (59.39), while Allison Gibson took first in the 50 freestyle (26.90). Jena Slater was first in diving and Liza Carnes took first in the 500 freestyle (6:23.73). Amanda Wilbur finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:09.96) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:08.89). Isabella Fazzary placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:20.43) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:16.11). Elizabeth Kilcoyne was second in the 50 freestyle (28.63), while Maria Brubaker took second in diving.
Watkins topped Southern Cayuga, 97-70, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Gibson was first in the 50 freestyle (26.82) and first in the 100 freestyle (1:00.24). Wilbur took first in the 100 butterfly (1:07.01). Fazzary finished first in the 500 freestyle (6:06.36).

Mustangs fall to Geneva; tennis competes in sectionals
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity football team lost a scoring shootout to Geneva, 56-42, Saturday, Oct. 7.
Dylan Stape scored three of the Mustangs' touchdowns on six receptions, totaling 136 yards. He also rushed 133 yards with eight carries. Desmond Battin had three receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown. Conner Fingar scored a touchdown on a reception for 65 yards. Brennan Prather also secured a touchdown with three receptions for 45 yards.
Quarterback Will Rogers had 14 completions on 30 attempts for 326 yards and six touchdowns.
Leading the defense was Fingar and Jack Peterson with 19 tackles and one sack each. Stape posted 18 tackles.
Rogers and Prather recorded interceptions. Chase Blumbergs, Riley Brittingham and Rogers each had a fumble recovery on defense.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia, Friday, Oct. 6. The final score was 4-1.
In doubles, Sam Denson and Grace Worth topped Tessa Charles and Ella Hocker, 7-6(8-6), 6-3. The remaining scores were: Jenna Curbeau lost 6-0, 6-2; Shelby Woodard, 6-1, 6-0; Molly Pullen, 6-4, 6-1; and Claire Pullen and Lexi Marble, 7-5, 6-4.
The Mustangs beat Palmyra-Macedon, 4-1, Wednesday, Oct. 4.
In singles, Woodard beat Leslie Nohe, 6-1, 6-0. Molly Pullen won against Renee Wilsey, 6-2, 6-1.
Claire Pullen and Marble topped Katherine Smyth and Katelyn Jones, 5-7, 6-0, 6-3. Denson and Worth beat Andra Savage and Heather Weaver, 7-5, 6-4.
The Penn Yan tennis team blanked Aquinas, 5-0, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Curbeau defeated Vanesa Chiodo, 6-0, 6-0. Woodard topped Cecelia Elliott, 6-0, 6-2. Molly Pullen beat Victoria Myers 6-0, 6-0.
Claire Pullen and Marble won against Nour Haida and Arianna Sciacca, 7-6(7-3), 6-2. Denson and Worth beat Anna Rankin and Francesca DeLaney, 6-0, 6-0.
Volleyball
The Penn Yan varsity volleyball team topped Hammondsport in four sets, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 27-25, Wednesday, Oct. 4.
Emily Wunder led with 23 kills, 19 digs and two blocks. Sydney Bloom had 22 assists and seven kills. Elissa Callaway added 11 digs and three kills.
The Mustangs beat Palmyra-Macedon, 26-22, 25-21, 26-24, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Wunder earned 18 kills, 16 assists, 21 digs, three blocks and three aces. Bloom added 10 kills, 17 assists, 13 digs and two aces. Caitlin Wunder had seven kills, while Akiya Brewer posted 14 digs.
Boys soccer
The Penn Yan boys varsity soccer team blanked Vertus, Thursday, Oct. 5, in a home game. The final score was 11-0. No additional stats were reported.
The Mustangs were defeated by Palmyra-Macedon in a home game, Tuesday, Oct. 3. The final score was 4-0.
Girls soccer
The Lady Mustangs girls varsity soccer team recorded a loss to Midlakes, Saturday, Oct. 7. The final score was 3-1. No additional stats were reported.
Penn Yan was beat by Waterloo, 1-0, Thursday, Oct. 5. Melanie Gleason had four saves in goal.
The Penn Yan girls fell to Waterloo, Monday, Oct. 3. The final score was 1-0. In goal, Gleason made six saves.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Penn Yan varsity cross country teams competed at North Rose-Wolcott, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The girls beat Williamson, 21-35; Geneva, 29-30; and NR-W, 15-50, which was an incomplete team. Maci Nicholson led in first place (21:17.2). Gracie Murphy (21:22.1) and Jaina Doyle (21:34.4) swept up second and third place respectively. Mary Ingram placed 18th (27.13.1), followed by Allyssa Johnson in 19th (27.19.2). Anna Fleet finished 24th (28:51.7).
The boys beat Williamson, 23-35, and NR-W, 15-50, but fell to Geneva, 40-20. Ben DeMoras placed second overall (17:34.6). Ayden Mowry took 11th (19:31.3), while Peyton Silliman was 13th (19:55.5). Connor Moore placed 17th (21:02.3). Garrett Golden was 18th (21:09.5) and Daniel Jiang 19th (21.13.0).
Golf
Penn Yan's varsity golf team beat Newark, 240-256, Wednesday, Oct. 4. Max Brodmann led with a match low of 44. Clay Koivuniemi posted a 48.
The Mustangs' golf team lost to Wayne, 238-256, Monday, Oct. 2.
Koivuniemi led Penn Yan with a 48, followed by Brodmann with a 49. Kevin Smith posted a 51 and Peter Nicholson added 52. Clark Simmons had a 56.

Dundee football, soccer teams host night games
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity football team fell to Mynderse, 41-32, Friday, Oct. 6.
Sam Richards secured two touchdowns for the Scots, with 19 carries for 191 yards. Billy Bowers also earned a touchdown on 11 carries with 45 yards.
Kyle Cratsley was three for nine passing, with 107 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Brace and Ryan Prior also scored touchdowns, with 67 and 30 receiving yards respectively.
Bowers led with six tackles, while Prior had five. Richards made three. Prior and Cameron Denmark each forced a fumble in the game.
Boys soccer
The Scots' boys varsity soccer team lost to Hammondsport on the road, Thursday, Oct. 5. The final score was 15-0. Dundee had six shots on goal.
Dundee's boys soccer team fell to South Seneca-Romulus, 7-1, Wednesday, Oct. 4. No additional stats were reported.
Girls soccer
The Dundee girls varsity soccer team suffered a loss to Honeoye, 4-0, Thursday, Oct. 5. Karynna Rutledge posted 18 saves in goal.
The Lady Scots fell to Red Jacket, 2-0, Tuesday, Oct. 3. Rutledge made 15 saves for the Scots.
Volleyball
The Dundee varsity volleyball team fell to South Seneca, Thursday, Oct. 5. The final scores were 25-22, 25-19, 25-18.
The Scots suffered a loss to Harley-Allendale Columbia in three sets, Tuesday, Oct. 3. The scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-19.

Hammondsport boys soccer tops Dundee
HAMMONDSPORT--The Lakers boys varsity soccer team topped Dundee, Thursday, Oct. 5.
Hammondsport had 33 shots on goal. Colin Drain led with three goals. Alex Davis and Sam Zyla both scored twice.
Individual goals came from: Noah Wilkinson, Dillan Conley, Luke Atkinson, Braydon Whitcomb, Ben Fingar, John Wells, Jackson Cummings, and Billy Whitney.
Hammondsport topped Arkport/Canaseraga, 4-3, Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Conley led with two goals, including one on a penalty kick. Atkinson and Drain each scored once. Hammondsport had 14 shots on goal total, with six saves.
Girls soccer
The Hammondsport girls varsity soccer team fell to Prattsburgh, Tuesday, Oct. 3. The final score was 4-0. Megan Allen had 27 saves in the goal for the Lakers.
Volleyball
Hammondsport's varsity volleyball team lost to Penn Yan, Wednesday, Oct. 4. The final scores were 23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-27. Julia Bennett and Shelby Sherman led at the net with 15 and 13 kills respectively.
The Lakers varsity volleyball team defeated Arkport in three sets, 25-11, 25-14, 25-16, Monday, Oct. 2.
Sherman had six aces and nine kills. Bennett posted 10 kills, while Brianna Hill had 19 setter assists.
