SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10/18/17

Dundee hosts breast cancer awareness game
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity volleyball team fell to Bloomfield, 25-18, 25-11, 25-12, Thursday, Oct. 12 in the annual pink game to raise funds for breast cancer research.
Megan Sutherland earned one kill, four assists and two aces. Elizabeth Medina had one dig, two kills and one ace. Sarah Boudinot added one kill, one block and one ace.
The volleyball team was beat by Mynderse in five sets, Tuesday, Oct. 10. The final scores were 25-21, 22-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14.
Mackenzie Strait had one attack, three assists, one block and one ace. Boudinot contributed one dig, two attacks, one assist and two aces. Medina posted three digs, one attack, one assist and one ace.
Football
The Scots varsity football team lost to Marcus Whitman on the road, Friday, Oct. 13. The final score was 34-8.
Sam Richards had Dundee's touchdown, with a total of 18 yards over 10 carries. Billy Bowers led in rushing yards, posting 100 with 11 carries.
Ryan Prior led with seven tackles. Richards, Bowers, and Preston Cole all made four tackles. Preston Cratsley and Kyle Cratsley each had interceptions on defense.
Boys soccer
Dundee's boys varsity soccer team recorded a loss to Bradford in an away game, Friday, Oct. 13. The final score was 10-0.
The Scots fell to Midlakes, 7-0, Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Dundee's boys suffered a defeat to Bloomfield, Monday, Oct. 9. The final score was 13-0.
No additional game stats were provided.
Girls soccer
The Lady Scots varsity soccer team fell to World of Inquiry, Thursday, Oct. 12. The final score was 3-1. Cheyenne Cummings scored in the second half for Dundee
Dundee lost to Sodus, 5-0, Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Penn Yan boys soccer loses one game, wins one
GENEVA--The Penn Yan boys varsity soccer team fell to Geneva in an away game, Friday, Oct. 13. The final score was 1-0.
The Mustangs blanked Newark, 5-0, Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Goals were scored by Fabian Martinez-Sanchez, Josh Smith, Alex Thiesmeyer, Austin Lafferty and Garrett Spoor. Martinez-Sanchez, Austin Blumbergs, and Tito Chavez each assisted once. Penn Yan had 16 shots on goal, eight corner kicks and one save.
Football
The Penn Yan varsity football team lost to East Rochester-Gananda in an away competition, 34-14, Friday, Oct. 13.
Will Rogers was six for 24 through the air, with 108 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored a two-point conversion. Brennan Prather posted three receptions for 46 yards and one touchdown, while Dominic Ferlito had one reception for a 35 yard touchdown.
Desmond Battin gained 29 yards on six carries and 18 yards with one reception. Rogers rushed for 38 yards over 14 carries.
On the defensive, Jack Peterson contributed 17 tackles and one sack. Conner Fingar posted 15 tackles, while Battin had 11 tackles.
Girls soccer
The Penn Yan girls varsity soccer team lost to Newark, Thursday, Oct. 12. The final score was 4-0.
The Lady Mustangs topped Waterloo, 1-0, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Leah Moniot scored for Penn Yan in overtime, assisted by Logan Broome. In goal, Melanie Gleason had 11 saves.
Volleyball
Penn Yan's varsity volleyball team topped Geneva, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18, Thursday, Oct. 12.
Emily Wunder had 20 kills, 15 assists, 13 digs and one block. Sydney Bloom posted five kills, 14 assists and 12 digs. Elissa Callaway had six kills and five digs.
With the win, the Mustangs' record is now 11-3.
Cross country
The Penn Yan girls varsity cross country team beat Marcus Whitman, 25-31, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
The girls fell to Newark, 27-28. Maci Nicholson led in second overall (21:20), followed by Jaina Doyle in third (22:03) and Gracie Murphy in fourth (23:23). Mary Ingram placed 13th (27:42). Allyssa Johnson finished 16th (29:11) and Anna Fleet 18th (30:59).
The boys lost to Marcus Whitman, 35-22, and Newark, 32-24. Ben DeMoras took third (18:16), while Ayden Mowry was sixth (19:32). Peyton Silliman finished 11th (20:00). Connor Moore took 14th (20:50). Garrett Golden was 18th (21:45).

Lakers volleyball beats Northstar Christian
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport varsity volleyball team topped Northstar Christian, 25-15, 25-18, 25-5, Friday, Oct. 13.
Brianna Pratt posted six aces and 16 setter assists. Julia Bennett and Shelby Sherman each had 10 and five kills respectively.
With the win, the Lakers' record is now 14-3.
Hammondsport topped Bath, 25-23, 25-11, 25-20, Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Bennett led the Lakers with 11 kills, three blocks and four aces. Sherman posted seven kills, while Pratt contributed 20 setter assists.
Boys soccer
The Lakers' boys varsity soccer team lost to Marcus Whitman, Friday, Oct. 13. The final score was 3-0.
The Hammondsport soccer team fell to Avoca, 3-0, in a home game, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Girls soccer
The Hammondsport girls varsity soccer team was beat by Canisteo-Greenwood, 5-0, Friday, Oct. 13.
The Lakers fell to Avoca, Wednesday, Oct. 11. The final core was 7-0. In goal, Megan Allen had 18 saves.

Odessa falls to Watkins; soccer looks to sectionals
WATKINS GLEN--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team fell to Watkins Glen, Thursday, Oct. 12. The final score as 94-57.
Tori Reese won the 200 IM (2:27.73) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.77). Kara Reese was first in the 100 backstroke (1:22.30). Hailey Hoose took second in the 200 freestyle (2:25.56), while Taylor Cain finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:40.00).
The Indians' swim team fell to Elmira-Notre Dame, 52-39, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Tori Reese won first in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.69) and second in the 200 IM (2:31.42). Lydia Lynch was second in the 50 freestyle (31.95) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:26.58).
Hoose took second in the 100 freestyle (1:07.38), while Emilee Chaffinch placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:25.88). Kara Reese was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.45).
Boys soccer
The number six seeded Odessa-Montour boys varsity soccer team is set to face Spencer-Van Etten/Candor in the first round of Class C Sectionals, Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Spencer/Candor team is seeded number 11.
The Indians' soccer team fell to Newark Valley, Tuesday, Oct. 10. The final score was 2-1. Taylor Grover scored for the Indians.
Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour varsity volleyball team was beat by Candor, 25-6, 25-13, 25-14, Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Jacy Knapp posted one ace, three digs and three service points. Pixie Kinner added four digs and two service points, while Cheyenne Barrett had three digs and two service points. Hannah Rose also scored two service points.

Seneca Indians fall in Watkins homecoming game
WATKINS GLEN--The Seneca Indians varsity football team lost to Lansing 34-14, Saturday, Oct. 14. The game was the centerpiece of the Watkins Glen homecoming celebration as Clara Chedzoy was named the queen and Simon Wigmore the king. The candidates and royalty were announced at halftime during the football game.
Zach Elliott led the Seneca Indians with 79 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Casen Weeden had 54 yards rushing and scored a two-point conversion. Noah Angle contributed 52 yards to the ground game. Quarterback Derrick Lewis had 87 passing yards.
Girls swimming
The Watkins Glen girls varsity swim team beat visiting Odessa-Montour, 94-57, Thursday, Oct. 12.
Elizabeth Kilcoyne took first in the 50 freestyle (28.17) and second in the 100 freestyle (1:02.25). Allie Gibson won first in the 200 freestyle (2:13.84). Peighton Cervoni placed first in the 100 freestyle (58.67).
Jillian Cantieni finished first in the 500 freestyle (6:00.77). Liza Carnes was first in the 100 fly (1:16.53), while Amanda Wilbur placed second in the 200 IM (2:29.45).
Kathleen Clifford took second in the 50 freestyle (29.72) and Gabi Decker was second in the 100 butterfly (1:21.53). Madeleine Kilcoyne finished second in the 500 freestyle (6:18.00). Sarah Swinnerton placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.58).
Cross country
The Watkins Glen boys varsity cross country team claimed the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) South Division crown at Newark Valley, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Watkins placed first out of six schools. Leading the Senecas individually was Gabe Planty in first (17:22.1). Aaron Planty followed in second (17:22.3), while Sean Holland took fourth (17:57.7). Max Evans finished in seventh (19:01.9) and Sam Thorsland was eighth (19:02.3). Conlin Wysocki was 10th (19:32.3). Tanner Ryan placed in 13th (19:42.7).
The girls also competed, but not with a full team. Kai Sutterby led in first (21:14.0). Makenzie Kellogg placed 13th (23:10.6).
Boys soccer
The Senecas' boys varsity soccer team blanked Groton, 4-0, Thursday, Oct. 12.
Jake Johnson and Dylan Morse each had two unassisted goals. Simon Wigmore earned 19 saves in goal.
Watkins' boys fell to Spencer-Van Etten, 4-1, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Johnson scored on a penalty kick. Watkins had 11 total shots on goal. Wigmore had 18 saves.
Girls soccer
The Watkins Glen girls varsity soccer team is scheduled to face Bainbridge-Guilford, seeded seventh in Class C, in the first round of sectionals. Watkins is seeded 10th.
The Senecas' soccer team topped Tioga, 6-3, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Hannah Morse led with two goals and one assist. Isobel Scheffey, Ryanna LaMoreaux, Makenna Fraboni, and Taylor Kelly all scored once. Scheffey also earned one assist.
In goal, Cierra Barber earned 15 saves.
Volleyball
The Watkins Glen varsity volleyball team defeated Spencer-Van Etten in five sets, Saturday, Oct. 14. The final scores were 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
Hanley Elliott led with 13 aces, 15 assists, eight kills and 14 service points. Megan Hazlitt recorded two aces, six kills, one block and five service points. Emmie Bond had 12 aces, two kills and 12 service points, while Katie Losey added seven aces, seven kills, one block and nine service points.
The Watkins volleyball team topped Newfield, 25-18, 25-10, 25-17, Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Losey posted 12 points and four kills. Hazlitt earned 11 points and 10 kills, while Elliott scored 11 points. Kelsey Kernan had 10 points and one kill. Jazmin Shea contributed eight points.
