SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-10-18

Penn Yan boys beat Wayland, Rochester Prep
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team topped Wayland Cohocton, 79-54, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Ben Emerson led with 22 points, including four three-point shots and was 4-for-4 on free throws. Will Roger posted 18 points. Dylan Stape had 15 points and was 5-for-7 at the free throw line. Derrick Rivello scored eight points, while Cade Curbeau and Conner Fingar each had four points. Peyton Schuck and Desmond Battin both added three points. Brandon Sherman scored two points.
The Penn Yan boys topped Rochester Prep 95-62, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Battin and Stape each had 21 points. Emerson recorded 19.
Girls basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team topped Mynderse, 58-53, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Sydney Bloom scored 16 points, while Jenna Curbeau had 15. Hannah Keech added 10. Joddie Decker had eight points, followed by Peyton Comfort with six. Emma Harling scored three.
Wrestling
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team was beaten by North Rose-Wolcott, 51-17, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Ayden Mowry (99) beat Ben Collins by decision, 8-7. Jarred Calice (138) won against Austin Mullin by technical fall in 5:30, 21-5. Nate Elliott (152) pinned Persian Singh in 5:30. Coty Bailey (160) beat Jake Minier by decision, 5-2.
Bowling
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams both fell to Newark Valley, Tuesday, Jan. 2. The final scores were 4-0.
For the boys, Cameron Bassage posted a 603. Zach Blauvelt bowled a 511, while Jon Mashewske had a 506. Zach Gurba added a 497.
Kari Ayers led the girls with a 552. Emilie Thomas added a 464, followed by Brandee Ellis with 456. Emily Augustine bowled a 390. McKelvie Jensen earned a 371.

Dundee boys bowling team tops Geneva, girls lose
PENN YAN--The Dundee boys varsity bowling team blanked Geneva, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 4.
Jared Hartman bowled a 607. Connor Muck had a 452. Bowling in two games, Hunter Murphy posted a 325, followed by Alec Champlin with a 310.
The girls fell, 4-0. Edele Morgan led with 407. Erika Gould had a 354, while Samantha Hunt posted a 332.
The girls bowling team topped Bloomfield, 4-0, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Morgan led with 431. Gould added 353. Mercedez Roy bowled 320.
The boys lost, 2.5-1.5, Dundee tied the Bloomfield pin total in the first game (earning the half point). Colin Goodman posted a 621. Hartman bowled a 544, followed by Muck with a 500. In two games, Champlin added a 338, Stephan Smith had a 304.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team lost to Naples, Tuesday, Jan. 2. The final score was 67-53. Wylie Hall scored 14 points, Robbie Clark had 13.
Girls basketball
The Lady Scots varsity basketball team lost to Naples, Tuesday, Jan. 2. The final score was 56-39.
Mackenzie Strait led with 16 points. Megan Sutherland had nine, while Makenzie Cratsley scored five. Hallie Knapp added four points. Alexandria Wood and Brianne Maloy both posted two points, while Delaine Nolan had one.

Lakers beat Arkport, 42-32
ARKPORT--The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team topped Arkport-Canaseraga, 42-32, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
The Lakers started with an 8-5 lead, before trailing A-C for the second and third quarters. The Lakers regained the lead in the final quarter.
The win came with a total of 19 steals, led by Dillan Conley with seven, and seven points. The Lakers were also 9-for-10 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Billy Whitney and Parker Watson had nine points each.
Girls basketball
Hammondsport's girls varsity basketball team was beaten by Keshequa, 45-33, Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Maddie Sprague posted 12 points, with three rebounds. Destiny Hammond had nine points, three assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Paige MacDonald had eight points and six rebounds. TeĆ” Flynn earned four points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Megan Allen had three rebounds and two assists.

Odessa-Montour girls team tops Newfield 48-39
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team topped Newfield, 48-39, Saturday, Jan. 6.
Nakiaha Robinson scored 17 points. Olivia Grover followed with nine points. Gillian Clark and Kennedey Heichel both scored eight. Alexis Saunders and Sara Gardner each added three points.
"We rebounded the ball better in the second half which made the difference," said Coach Greg Gavich. "Not a very sharp game on the offensive end of the floor, but it's a win which is better than the alternative."
With the win, Odessa's record is 9-1.
The Indians beat Groton, 64-40, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Clark led with 17 points and eight rebounds. Grover posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Gardner scored 11 points, followed by Saunders with 10. Robinson added six points and five assists. Heichel had two points and five assists, while Grace Vondracek and Heidi Casselberry both scored two points.
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Newfield, 70-53, in an away game, Saturday, Jan. 6.
Zach Elliott led with 20 points. Curtis Harris had 14 points, followed by Noah Austin with eight points. Paden Grover earned six points. Brandon Ray had three and Derrick Lewis two.
Odessa's boys beat Groton, 67-58, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Harris scored 17 points, followed by Austin and Elliott with 13 points each. Ray had 12 points, all three-point shots. Noah Angle had five points. Grover added four points. Lewis rounded out the scoring with three points.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team defeated Watkins Glen, 62-19, Thursday, Jan. 4.
Billy Tague took first in the 200 IM (2:11.04, a personal record) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.06). Alec Betts was first in the 100 backstroke (1:12.85) and the 100 breaststroke (1:20.34). Jake Mayette finished first in the 500 freestyle (6:44.74), while Cameron Adams won the 200 freestyle (2:09.33, a personal record).
The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Tague, Mayette, and Brett Walters) was first with a time of 1:55.34. The 200 freestyle relay team (Betts, Walters, Mayette, and Tague) placed first in 1:44.02. The 400 freestyle relay team (Cameron Adams, Caleb Thomas, Micah Brewster, and Justin Andrews) finished first with 4:46.35.

Watkins Glen boys swimming loses to Odessa
ODESSA--The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team lost to Odessa-Montour, Thursday, Jan. 4. The final score was 62-19.
Nathaniel Wickham won first in the 50 freestyle (24.44) and the 100 freestyle (57.16). Scott Brubaker took second in the 200 IM (2:57.23) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:32.65). Jacob Asbury placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:51.78) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (30.75).
The Senecas fell to Waverly, 115-35, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The 200 medley relay team of James Jensen, Brubaker, Wickham, and Asbury had a season best of 2:28.04, dropping six seconds. Wickham had a season best in the 50 freestyle with a first place win (24.97). Peter Sandritter had a personal best in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.57. Asbury posted a personal best in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:09.22. Brubaker also earned a personal best in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:32.12, dropping two seconds.
Boys basketball
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team lost to Lansing, Tuesday, Jan. 2. The final score was 55-39. Dayne Hughey scored 17 points, with six rebounds.
Girls basketball
The Watkins girls varsity basketball team defeated Lansing, 58-22, Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Taylor Kelly scored 14 points, with three assists and one steal. Julia Reilly had nine points, two steals, and one assist. Hannah Morse earned eight points, six assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Makenna Fraboni posted seven points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Ryanna LaMoreaux added five points, five rebounds, and one block. Clara Chedzoy and Jena Slater both had four points.
