SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-24-18

Odessa-Montour boys fall to Tioga; swimmers win
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Tioga, 69-44, Friday, Jan. 19.
Zach Elliott led with 14 points, and was 3-for-5 at the free throw line. Curtis Harris scored 10 points, while Brandon Ray added six points. Noah Austin added four points. Noah Angle, Clayton Zinger, Paden Grover, and Jonah Thompson each had two points.
"They beat us in every facet of the game. I was proud of the effort that my kids gave in the third quarter but it wasn't enough to help bring us back from the 22-point deficit at the half," said Coach Matt Johnston.
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Dryden, Wednesday, Jan. 17. The final score was 45-26.
Olivia Grover led with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Gillian Clark posted 10 points, while Nakiaha Robinson added nine points and four assists. Sara Gardner scored six points. Kennedey Heichel earned three points and four assists. Grace Vondracek and Heidi Casselberry each had two points.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team claimed the Class C division crown at the John Beecher Invitational at Elmira, Saturday, Jan. 20.
Overall, the Indians placed ninth out of all teams in the three divisions.
Billy Tague was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.86) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:10.22).
Other Odessa swimmers to set personal records included Alec Betts, Cameron Adams, Tyler Carson, Johnny Neidermaier, Brett Walters, Jacob Mayette, Bailey Hornbrook, Micah Brewster, Justin Andrews, Noah Hollenbeck, Caleb Thomas and Liam Mayette.
The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Tague, Jacob Mayette, and Walters) finished fifth in 1:50.28.
The Indians lost to Waverly, 52-42, Thursday, Jan. 18.
Tague was first in the 200 IM (2:10.13) and 500 free (5:18.30). Betts took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.10) and second in the 200 free (2:06.29). Mayette was second in the 50 free (25.59) and 100 fly (1:06.74). Walters finished second in the 100 free (55.85).
The 200 free relay team (Betts, Hornbrook, Mayette, and Tague) finished first with 1:40.26. The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Tague, Mayette, and Walters) was first in 1:55.47. The 400 free relay team (Adams, Brewster, Hornbrook, and Walters) was second in 4:16.93.
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team competed at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) championship, Saturday, Jan. 20.
Dylan Houseknecht (285) was second for the Indians. Jeremiah Lynch (160) and Jacob Zimmer (152) both placed third. Andrew Hartford (126) took fourth, while Daniel Minnier (160) was fifth.
Coach Bill Lindsley was presented with the IAC Small Schools Championship plaque. This is the second consecutive year the Odessa team has won the title.
Odessa's varsity wrestling team lost to Dryden, 64-6, Wednesday, Jan. 17. Houseknecht (285) pinned James Jackson in 4:50.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity bowling team topped Groton, 3-1, Thursday, Jan. 18.
Jackie Vincent posted 703. Kacie Wood bowled a 424, while Jana Arias had a 414. Pixie Kinner added a 383. Jaylin Rumsey contributed a 358 and Madison Randall had a 316.
The boys fell, 3-1. Eric Rumsey led with a 480. Andrew Ink earned a 454, followed by Jesse Jordan with a 424. Colton Chapman added 409.
The varsity bowling teams both defeated Candor, Tuesday, Jan. 16.
The boys blanked Candor, 4-0. Rumsey posted a 472. Chapman added a 453. Ink bowled a 447. Jordan had 383.
The girls won, 3-1. Vincent led with a 583. Kinner added a 400. Arias earned a 365, followed by Ashley Stewart with a 340. Randall bowled a 335.

Watkins girls top Notre Dame; runners set pace
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team defeated Notre Dame, 48-36, Friday, Jan. 19.
Taylor Kelly led with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Hannah Morse had eight points, five assists, and four rebounds. Ryanna LaMoreaux, Danielle Leszyk, and Emmie Bond all scored seven points. Clara Chedzoy added three points. Makenna Fraboni and Jazmin Shea both had two.
Watkins' girls lost to Waverly, Thursday, Jan. 18. The final score was 60-44.
Kelly and Morse both scored 11 points. Kelly posted 11 rebounds, while Morse had six. Chedzoy posted nine points and six rebounds. LaMoreaux had eight points and eight rebounds. Bond added five points and four rebounds.
Boys basketball
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team lost a close game to Notre Dame, 65-63, Friday, Jan. 19.
Michael Doane led with 18 points. Dayne Hughey added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Schimizzi scored 12 points, while Joe Chedzoy had nine points. Isaac McIlroy earned seven points, four assists, and three steals.
Indoor track
The Watkins Glen varsity indoor track team competed in Division Two at the Hurley Invitational at Ithaca College, Friday, Jan. 19.
Gabe Planty placed first in the 3200 meters (9:43.84, a new school record). Aaron Planty finished second in the 3200 meters (10:13.57).
Allison Gibson took second in the long jump (14"8", a new school record) and seventh in the 55 meters (8.03).
Isobel Scheffey was third in the 300 meters (46.46, a new school record). Josh Updyke was seventh in the 55 meters (7.01). Megan Hazlitt took ninth in the 600 meters (1:58.63, a new personal record).
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team competed in the John Beecher Invitational at Elmira, Saturday, Jan. 20.
In the 100 free, Nathaniel Wickham had a personal best with a time of 55.60, dropping two seconds. Scott Brubaker earned a personal best in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:29.45. Jacob Asbury had a new personal best in the 50 free with a time of 29.32. In the same event, Wickham got a season-best with a time of 24.34.
The 200 medley relay team of James Jensen, Brubaker, Wickham and Asbury recorded a new season best with a time of 2:23.07, dropping five seconds.
The Senecas fell to Lansing, 76-38, Thursday, Jan. 18.
Wickham took first in the 50 freestyle (24.42) and second in the 100 freestyle (57.93).
Wrestling
The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team competed at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) finishing 12th overall, Saturday, Jan. 20.
Kameryn Sheldon (220) and Dalton Cummings (182) both were second in their weight classes. Dawson Wade (115) placed fifth.

Dundee basketball loses two; girls bowling wins
ROCHESTER--The Dundee boys varsity basketball team lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia, Saturday, Jan. 20. The final score was 56-33.
Robbie Clark recorded eight points in the game.
The Scots' boys fell to South Seneca, 61-54, Thursday, Jan. 18.
Individual stats were not provided.
Girls basketball
The Dundee girls varsity basketball team fell to South Seneca, Friday, Jan. 19. The final score was 59-22.
Mackenzie Strait had nine points and five rebounds.
The Lady Scots lost to Marcus Whitman, 68-29, Wednesday, Jan. 17.
Strait led with 16 points and two rebounds. Megan Sutherland posted five points and two rebounds. Brianne Maloy scored four points. Makenzie Cratsley had five rebounds.
Bowling
The Dundee girls varsity bowling team beat Marcus Whitman, 3-1, Thursday, Jan. 18.
Mercedez Roy had a 431. Edele Morgan bowled a 424. Jaedyn Brewer posted a 365, while Samantha Hunt added 348.
The boys lost 3-1. Stephan Smith led with a 553. Jared Hartman posted a 534, followed by Connor Muck with a 508.
Wrestling
Dundee's varsity wrestling team was 17th at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20. Dundee did not have any wrestlers place in the top six positions.
The Scots' varsity wrestling team topped Lyons, Wednesday, Jan. 17. The final score was 42-22.
Steven Ameigh (132) and Leif Hoyt (195) had pins for Dundee. Jaden Ault, Paul Knapp, Trenton Lane, Ethan Rexford and Tate Hoyt received forfeits.

Penn Yan boys win
PALMYRA--Penn Yan's boys varsity basketball team topped Palmyra-Macedon, 54-44, Friday, Jan. 19.
Dylan Stape led with 12 points, while Desmond Battin had 11 points. Conner Fingar, Cade Curbeau, and Peyton Schuck all scored eight points each. Ben Emerson added seven points.
The Penn Yan basketball team fell to Midlakes, 62-55, Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Emerson, Battin, and Stape all led with 14 points. Emerson scored four three-point shots. Curbeau posted seven points. Derrick Rivello scored six points, going 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Girls basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team lost to Palmyra-Macedon, 50-42, Friday, Jan. 19
Sydney Bloom led with 16 points. Ashley Sisson posted 10 points, while Emma Harling added nine. Jenna Curbeau scored four points.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Hornell, Wednesday, Jan. 17. The final score was 64-56.
Bloom scored 18 points. Harling earned 12 points. Curbeau had 11 points. Hannah Keech posted six points, while Peyton Comfort had five and Joddie Decker had four.
Bowling
The Penn Yan girls varsity bowling team topped Wayne, 3-1, Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Emily Augustine posted a 515. Emilie Thomas had a 476. Kari Ayers earned a 472. Brandee Ellis bowled a 453, followed by Mckelvie Jensen with a 439.
The boys lost, 3-1. Zack Blauvelt led with a 619. Zach Gurba bowled a 596, while Cameron Bassage had a 522. Jon Mashewske added a 461. Ben Broom posted a 437.
Wrestling
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team finished sixth at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20.
Jarred Calice (138) and Coty Bailey (160) both won first place. Calice beat Palmyra-Macedon's Cale Bartosch by decision, 1-0, while Bailey beat North Rose Wolcott's Jake Minier by major decision, 15-5.
Ayden Mowry (99) and Nate Elliott (152) placed third. Caleb Plain (132) and Alvaro Chavez (182) were fourth. Damien Snyder (126) finished sixth.

Hammondsport girls basketball wins one, loses one
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team beat Scio, 56-23, Friday, Jan. 19.
Destiny Hammond earned 19 points with 11 rebounds. Teá Flynn had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Megan Allen and McKenzie Boscoe both scored eight points. Amanda O'Donnell and Hannah Hoerter each had four points.
The Lakers lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, 63-37, Wednesday, Jan. 17. Leading Hammondsport was Hammond with 16 points. Boscoe added 10 points and six rebounds. Flynn had six points and six rebounds. Allen posted four points. Paige MacDonald had four rebounds.
Boys basketball
The Lakers boys varsity basketball team fell to Avoca, 88-47, Friday, Jan. 19.
Cameron Roote scored 18 points, with seven rebounds. Parker Watson posted 11 points and eight rebounds.
