Odessa's Tague swims at New York final
Odessa-Montour's Billy Tague competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships, Friday, March 2. Tague placed 50th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.16. He was seeded 53rd. "Although it wasn't where he and I wanted to see him finish, it doesn't diminish the fact that he was among the top five percent of swimmers in New York state who qualified for the meet," said Coach Terri Brace. "It is a huge accomplishment to just get there."

Watkins Glen girls basketball falls in sectional final
CORTLAND-The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team lost to Bainbridge-Guilford in the Section IV Class C championship, Sunday, March 4. The final score was 59-48.
Watkins led 25-23 at halftime. Bainbridge-Guilford surged in the third quarter scoring 14 points to lead 37-32 before widening the gap, especially in the closing minute, of the final quarter with free throws.
Hannah Morse led with 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Taylor Kelly scored 11 points, with five rebounds and two steals. Ryanna LaMoreaux and Emmie Bond both had nine points. Makenna Fraboni added two points, while Clara Chedzoy earned one point.
Watkins' ends the season with a 16-6 record.
The Senecas beat Moravia, 62-32, in the sectional semifinals, Wednesday, Feb. 28.
LaMoreaux scored 19 points, with four three-point shots and three rebounds. Chedzoy posted 14 points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Morse added nine points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Kelly earned eight points, three steals, two blocks, and two rebounds. Danielle Leszyk scored six points, followed by Emmie Bond with four.

Runners compete at states
STATEN ISLAND--The Watkins Glen Indoor Track team had two athletes compete at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island, Saturday, March 3.
Aaron Planty competed in the 1600 meter race that had 35 competitors. He placed 26th with a personal best time of 4:29.55. "Aaron ran a smart race," said coach Kelly Sterner. "He paced himself and had a great kick on the last lap, which helped him get his best time."
His seed time had been 4:31.72.
Gabe Planty competed in the Intersectional Relay. It combined third-place runners from the state qualifier meet in the 300, 600, 1000 and 1600. Gabe's time was 4:37.94 for his 1600 meter leg of the relay. In the first leg of the relay, a teammate fell. The rest of the runners worked to make up time. The Section IV team placed 10th overall.
"The boys truly had a great season. We are looking forward to seeing them compete in the outdoor season," added Sterner.

Penn Yan boys fall in semifinal
RUSHVILLE--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team fell to Livonia in the Section V Class B semifinals, Tuesday, Feb. 27. The final score was 70-65.
Desmond Battin led with 25 points for the Mustangs. He was also 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Dylan Stape followed with 17 points. Cade Curbeau scored eight points, while Conner Fingar recorded six. Peyton Schuck and Ben Emerson rounded out the scoring with five and four points respectively.
Penn Yan trailed 21-9 at the end of the first quarter and 38-24 at halftime. However, the Mustangs rallied to put up 16 points in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth to bring the game to a five-point difference when the buzzer sounded.
Penn Yan ends the basketball season with a 17-6 record.
Livonia, the number three seed, improved to 18-5 and faced Greece-Odyssey, the fifth seed, in the sectional championship. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, March 2 but a snowstorm that impacted the Finger Lakes region postponed the Class B game to Monday, March 5. The Greece-Odyssey Leopards defeated the Livonia Bulldogs 62-50 in the Class B finals. G-O jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and maintained it throughout the game.
G-O now moves to the state regional game to face the winner of Section VI.
Included in the Class B All-Tournament Team selections was Penn Yan's Dylan Stape.
