SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-9-18

Lady Scots split a pair of games with Honeoye
DUNDEE--The Lady Scots varsity softball team faced Honeoye in a doubleheader, Monday, May 7.
Dundee lost the first game, 4-3. Mercedes Roy and Alyssa Newell were both 1-for-2 at bat.
The second game, Dundee won 8-6. Megan Sutherland was 2-for-3, with four RBIs. Roy was also 2-for-3, with two RBIs.
The softball team lost to Bloomfield, 7-6, and 15-9, in a doubleheader, Monday, April 30.
In the first game, Shanika Clark led, going 3-for-3. Makenzie Strait was 2-for-3. In the second game, Sutherland was 2-for-4, while Strait went 3-for-4.
Baseball
The Dundee varsity baseball team lost to Honeoye 24-0, Monday, May 7.
The baseball team fell to South Seneca, Saturday, May 5 by a score of 9-4. Zack Neu went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and Michael Hand added two hits with a double.
Track and field
Dundee's boys varsity track and field team finished eighth and the girls 19th at the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 4.
William Hall took second in the 100 meter dash by judgement with 12.30. He was fifth in the triple jump (37'9") and eighth in the long jump (17'7"). Sam Richards was second in the pole vault with 11'6". Josh Cramer was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.99) and seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (18.81). Leif Hoyt was fourth in the discus (122'6"). Josh Kane took sixth in the triple jump (37'3.25"), while Preston Cratsley was seventh in the 100 meter dash (12.70). Matt Wood placed ninth in the 1600 meter run (5:06.01). Nic Laursen finished ninth in the 200 meter dash (25.89). Ryan Prior took ninth in the triple jump (35'10.75").
Lily Hall was fourth in the triple jump (32'1") and 14th in the long jump (13'1"). Hallie Knapp took 18th in the discus (71'0") and 33rd in the shot out (22'1"). Melena Everetts took 30th in the 100 meter dash (18.9) and 36th in the 400 meter dash (1:20.74).

Penn Yan boys lacrosse defeats West Seneca East
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team defeated West Seneca East, 14-3, Saturday, May 5.
Austin Blumbergs led with five goals and one assist. Ayden Mowry scored four goals, with one assist. Colton Smith added three goals and one assist. Conner Fingar scored once and assisted once, while Max Brodmann also had one goal. Devon Gerhardt posted five assists. Chase Blumbergs assisted twice. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun had 11 saves.
Penn Yan lost to McQuaid Jesuit, 5-4, in overtime Tuesday, May 1.
Austin Blumbergs posted two goals. Dylan Stape and Brodmann both scored once. Fingar added one assist. Kinyoun had 12 saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team topped Livonia, 17-10, in a non-league game, Saturday, May 5.
Elissa Callaway led with seven goals. Hannah Keech added five goals and three assists. Sydney Bloom posted three goals and four assists. Alli Olevnik and Grace Ledgerwood each scored once. Hayley Andersen and Allison Dixon assisted once.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Geneva, Thursday, May 3. The final score was 11-7.
Keech scored four goals and one assist. Callaway and Bloom each posted three goals and one assist. Olevnik added one goal and one assist. In the goal, Alexandra Cox had eight saves.
The lacrosse team fell to Marcus Whitman in overtime, 14-13, Tuesday, May 1.
Marcus Whitman outscored Penn Yan 8-6 by halftime, with a 13-13 tie at the end of the regular game.
Keech led with five goals. Bloom added three goals and three assists, while Olevnik also had three goals and two assists. Callaway earned two goals and three assists. Cox posted four saves.
Tennis
Three of Penn Yan's tennis players qualified for the Section V Class B sectionals. Lukas Spears qualified in singles, while the doubles team of Austin Lafferty and Alex Thiesmeyer also advanced. Sectionals will be Saturday, May 12, at Palmyra-Macedon.
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team fell to Prattsburgh-Hammondsport, 3-2, Wednesday, May 2.
Thiesmeyer beat Bryce Santacroce in singles, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, Spencer Christensen and Reid Castner defeated Drew Stockton and Dylan McDermott, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Mustangs defeated Palmyra-Macedon, 4-1, in a home match, Monday, April 30.
Spears topped Michael Bergfjord, 6-3, 6-1. Thiesmeyer won against Alexander Brychy, 6-4, 6-4. Jeremy Fenton and Connor Hunter defeated Chance Hager and Blake Rose, 6-2, 6-4. Castner and Christensen beat Michael Langenfield and Beau Fillion, 6-3, 6-1.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team topped Saquoit Valley in an away game, Saturday, May 5. The final score was 10-3.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Waterloo, Thursday, May 3. The final score was 11-9.
Baseball
Penn Yan's varsity baseball team beat Waterloo, 16-4, in an away game, Thursday, May 3.
Donny McMahon was 2-for-5, with three RBIs, while Noah Detar was 1-for-3, also with three RBIs. Derrick Riviello was 2-for-5 and Matt Moniot was 2-for-3, both with two RBIs. Josh Smith also earned one RBI. McMahon and Brennan Prather both earned doubles.
The Mustangs fell to Mynderse, Tuesday, May 1. The final score was 11-7.
Moniot was 3-for-4, with three RBIs and a double. Josh Smith went 1-for-2, with one RBI. McMahon posted two doubles, while Riviello had one single.
The Penn Yan baseball team defeated Waterloo, 16-6, Monday, April 30.
Peyton Shuck went 1-for-3 with a triple and while Detar was 2-for-2, both with four RBIs. McMahon was 2-for-5, with three RBIs. Riviello was 1-for-2, with two RBIs.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team took seventh and the boys 21st at the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 4.
Emma Harling finished first in the shot put (34'4.75") and ninth in the discus (84'7"). Maci Nicholson took first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (7:46.80) and ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:16.70). Joddie Decker won the 1500 meter run (5:10.99). Lizzy Benson placed 12th in the triple jump (28'10.5"), while Teresa Pietrusinski was 16th in the discus (73'4").
For the boys, Ben DeMoras took sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:49.52) and seventh in the 1600 meter run (4:57.31). Peyton Silliman finished eighth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:14.26). Jason Bogart placed 15th in the 800 meter run (2:23.21) and 17th in the 1600 meter run (5:18.07). Connor Moore was 19th in the 1600 meter run (5:21.01).

Hammondsport golf team wins; tennis tops Wellsville
PENN YAN--The Hammondsport varsity golf team beat Wellsville, Wednesday, May 2. With the win, the Lakers' record is now 6-1.
Parker Watson led with the match's lowest score: 39 strokes. Nigel Snyder had the third lowest score (45), followed by Matthew Cole in fifth (48). Ben Cole and Noah Wilkinson each had 49 strokes.
Hammondsport faced and beat both Arkport and Bath, Monday, April 30.
Watson led with a 42. Snyder had a 43, followed by Matthew Cole with a 49. Ben Cole posted a 50. Wilkinson had a 56.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team defeated Wellsville twice during a double-header, Saturday, May 5.
The first game ended 3-2. Tommy Morris beat Bryce Beckwith, 10-9. Dylan McDermott won by forfeit. Benjamin Fingar and Bryce Santacroce defeated Alex Posener and Walker Waldon, 10-4.
The second game was 5-0. Troy Sanford defeated Dahlton Mattison, 10-5. Colin Drain beat Bryce Beckwith, 10-2. McDermott won by forfeit. Rhett Presler and Tommy Morris won against Simon Case and Tim Rhodes, 10-5. Santacroce and Fingar topped Alex Posener and Walker Waldon 10-2.
The combined tennis team topped Penn Yan, Wednesday, May 2. The final score was 3-2.
Troy Sanford defeated Austin Lafferty, 6-2, 6-3. Drain won against Lukas Spears, 6-1, 7-5. Fingar and Presler beat Jeremy Fenton and Connor Hunter, 2-6, 7-6(8-6), 7-6(7-4).
Baseball
The Lakers' varsity baseball team was beaten by Avoca, Tuesday, May 1. The final score was 25-0.
Bill Whitney and Hunter Ball were both 1-for-2. Harley Underwood was 1-for-1, with a walk.
The Hammondsport baseball team fell to Alfred Almond, 23-7, Monday, April 30. Jackson Cummings had a double.
Softball
The Hammondsport-Prattsburgh varsity softball team defeated Friendship, Thursday, May 3. The final score was 21-4.
The combined softball team beat Jasper-Troupsburg, 18-3, Tuesday, May 2.

Watkins Glen boys golf beats Spencer-Van Etten
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen boys varsity golf team defeated Spencer-Van Etten, 267-288, Wednesday, May 2.
Patrick Bannon led with a low score of 42. Georgio Fazzary earned a 48. Ben Swinnerton posted a 55, followed by Ethan Cary with a 59. A.J. Specchio added 63.
The Senecas' golf team lost to Tioga, Monday, April 30. The final score was 204-296.
Bannon led Watkins with a 46. Specchio added a 56. Swinnerton and Cary each had a 64.
Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team lost to Whitney Point, 17-5, Friday, May 4.
Joe Chedzoy, Jackson Dunham and Jake DeJong scored. An assist came from Avery Watson.
Tennis
The Senecas' varsity tennis team secured a win against Odessa-Montour, 6-1, Tuesday, May 1.
In singles, Peter Sandritter won against Billy Tague, 6-0, 5-7, 6-0. Dylan Morse beat Cameron Adams, 6-1, 6-0. Clint Craven won against Deshawn Johnson, 6-0, 6-0.
Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse beat Sara Gardner and Rhys Stermer, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Makenna Fraboni and Megan Hazlitt topped Jonathon Myers and Jordan Robinson, 6-1, 6-1. Kathleen Clifford and Tim Clifford defeated Jacy Knapp and Bronwyn Stermer, 6-3, 6-2.
Softball
The Senecas' varsity softball team fell to Elmira Notre Dame, Friday, May 4. The final score was 16-0.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed in a tri-meet against Odessa-Montour and Newfield, Monday, April 30.
For the boys, Max Evans took first in the 800 meter run (2:24.50) and second in the high jump (5'8"). Aaron Planty finished first in the 3200 meter run (11:36.00). Gabe Planty was second in the 1600 meter run (4:56.08) and second in the 3200 meter run (11:36.00). Casen Weeden placed second in the discus (116'8"). Sean Holland took second in the 400 meter dash (1:02.80).
For the girls, Kai Sutterby won first in the 800 meter run (2:57.80) and first in the 3000 meter run (13:42.50). Julya Slater took first in the 1500 meter run (5:58.054). Allison Gibson placed second in the long jump (14'6") and second in the high jump (4'6"). Haley Dean was second in the 200 meter dash (29.90), while Breanna Carl finished second in the 3000 meter run (13:43.60).

Seneca Indians fall to Notre Dame, beat Waverly
ELMIRA--The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team fell to Elmira Notre Dame, 14-6, Saturday, May 5.
Michael Doane was 1-for-4, with two RBIs. Josh Updyke went 3-for-4, with one RBI and a double. Caleb Thomas and Derrick Lewis were 1-for-4, both with an RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, Lewis, Isaac McIlroy, and Updyke each struck out two.
The baseball team fell to Notre Dame, 4-3, Friday, May 4.
John Neidermaier went 2-for-3, with a triple. Austin Voorheis was 1-for-3, with two RBIs. Lewis and Sean Kelly were both 1-for-2, while Doane was 1-for-3. Pitching, Doane earned five strikeouts

Lewis was 3-for-4, with one RBI and a double. Thomas was 2-for-4 and an RBI. Kelly and McIlroy both went 1-for-3, with one RBI.
Voorheis struck out six on the pitcher's mound. McIlroy also earned two strikeouts.
The baseball team secured a win against Waverly, 12-11, Tuesday, May 1.
Neidermaier was 1-for-2, with three RBIs and a triple. Kelly went 2-for-5, with two RBIs and a double. Thomas was 3-for-3, with an RBI. Voorheis was 2-for-3, with one RBI and a double. Lewis went 2-for-4, with one RBI.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team beat Trumansburg, 5-2, Wednesday, May 2.
Curtis Harris won against Jonas Puryear, 6-0, 6-0. Billy Tague beat Jared Everhart, 6-1, 6-3. Cameron Adams topped Nik DiMarco, 6-0, 6-2. DeShawn Johnson won against Caeyn Hoeng, 6-4, 6-3.
Jacy Knapp and Bronwyn Stermer defeated Macy Covert and Julia Wright, 6-3, 6-0 in doubles.
The Indians lost to Watkins Glen, Tuesday, May 1. The final score was 6-1. Odessa's win came in singles. Harris beat Nathaniel Wickham, 6-2, 6-1.
Odessa's tennis team topped Southern Cayuga, 5-2, Monday, April 30.
Harris defeated Oscar Montalvo, 6-0, 6-0. Tague won against Michael Redmond, 6-4, 6-4. Adams beat John Groth, 6-2, 6-4. Johnson defeated Wisteria Kirk, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Knapp and Stermer beat Primrose Kirk and Olivia Whitten, 7-6, 6-4.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour boys and girls varsity track teams beat Newfield and Watkins Glen at a tri-meet, Monday, April 30.
For the boys, Preston Harris took first in the 110 meter hurdles (17.30) and first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.00). Jacob Zimmer won the 100 meter dash (11.10) and first in the long jump (16'11.5"). Zach Elliott finished first in the shot put (47'.5") and first in the discus (132'6"). Noah Brewster placed first in the 1600 meter run (4:55.075). Alec Betts was first in the 400 meter dash (1:01.20). Paden Grover finished first in the triple jump (36'5.75").
For the girls, Kennedey Heichel was first in the 100 meter hurdles (16.40) and first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:15.20). Nadia Simpson placed first in the 100 meter dash (12.70) and first in the 200 meter dash (28.10). Jaylin Rumsey finished first in the shot put (28'11.5") and first in the discus (78'10"). Hannah Bruno took first in the triple jump (32'2.5") and first in the long jump (15'1.75"). Hannah Chapman won first in the high jump (4'10").
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team lost to Tioga, Friday, May 4. The final score was 10-0.
Grace Vondracek had a double for Odessa and pitching struck out six.
The softball team topped Newark Valley, 6-4, Tuesday, May 1.
Megan Jenkins was 2-for-4, with five RBIs, a double, and a single. Vondracek went 3-for-3, with three singles. Isabel Foote was 2-for-4, with two singles. Kat Conners was 1-for-4, with a single. Lydia Lynch was also 1-for-4, with a single. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out 13.
