Odessa-Montour girls capture IAC track title
TRUMANSBURG--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity track and field team won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Small School Division title, Thursday, May 17, to Friday, May 18. The boys also won second place for small schools.
The 4x100 meter relay team (Nadia Simpson, Hannah Bruno, Kennedey Heichel, and Hunter Daugherty) was first with a time of 53.38. The 4x800 meter relay team (Hailey Perraut, Cheianne Webster, Morgan Burnham, and Mckennah Lott) placed third in 11:47.94.
Heichel took first in the 100 meter hurdles (16.69), 400 hurdles (1:11.62) and the pole vault (10'0"). Simpson placed first in the 100 meter dash (12.75). Lott finished fourth in the pole vault (7'0"). Jaylin Rumsey was third in the shot put (29'1.50") and fifth in the discus (74'2"). Meagan Terry was ninth in the 400 meter run (1:08.01). Bruno was first in the long jump (15'7") and triple jump (32'4.5") while Hannah Chapman was second in the high jump (4'4").
For the boys, the 4x800 meter relay team (Noah Brewster, Alec Betts, Paden Grover, and Micah Brewster) placed fourth in 9:35.97. Zach Elliott took first in the shot put (50'4.5") and first in the discus (142'1"). Jacob Zimmer was first in the 100 meter dash (11.48). Preston Harris finished third in the 110 meter hurdles (17.56). William Yeater placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:31.30). Brewster took fourth in the 1600 meter run (5:00.50). Noah Angle was fifth in the long jump (17'1").
Girls golf
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity golf team placed second at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championships, Friday, May 18.
The Indians earned a team score of 444. Waverly was first with a low score of 348. Leading Odessa was Gillian Clark with a 96. Gabby Fazzary posted a 111, followed by Catherine Rounds with a 112. Eliza Starkweather added 125.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team fell to Elmira Notre Dame in the first round of the Class C Sectionals, Thursday, May 17. The final score was 2-0.
Individual hits came from Jolynn Minnier, Grace Vondracek, and Isabel Foote. Minnier also earned a double, while Vondracek and Foote each had a single. Vondracek also had one stolen base. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out nine.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team was beaten by Thomas A. Edison, Thursday, May 17. The final score was 6-1.
Curtis Harris won for the Indians, beating Zach Root, 6-2, 6-2.

Watkins athletes compete at IAC championships
WAVERLY--Watkins Glen's girls varsity golf team finished third at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Championships, Friday, May 18.
Hanley Elliott shot a 90, making the top five players overall with the lowest scores. Gabi Decker followed with a 99, to be in the top 10 overall. The Watkins' team score was 450.
Boys golf
The Senecas' boys varsity golf team beat an incomplete Elmira Notre Dame team, with a 263, Wednesday, May 16.
Patrick Bannon posted a low score of 42. Georgio Fazzary had a 51. Andrew Hayes followed with a 52. Ethan Cary, Daniel Ely, and Ben Swinnerton each carded a 59.
Watkins' record is 6-5.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen boys varsity track and field team tied for fifth and the girls finished eighth at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Large Schools championship, Thursday, May 17, to Friday, May 18.
The 4x400 meter relay team (Gabe Planty, Sean Holland, Aaron Planty, and Casen Weeden) placed fifth in 3:50.97. Gabe Planty won the 1600 meter run (4:26.88), while Aaron Planty finished second in the 1600 meter run (4:29.82). Nick Wilston placed eighth in the long jump (17'9.5"). Holland took 12th in the 400 meter run (1:05.37). Travon Jones was 13th in the 400 meter run (1:05.39).
For the girls, Isobel Scheffey took first in the 200 meter dash (26.69) and first in the 400 meter run (1:02.29). Jena Slater was sixth in the pole vault (6'6"). In the 1500 meter run, Kai Sutterby finished 12th (5:40.88), followed by Breanna Carl in 13th (5:44.86).
Tennis
The Watkins Glen tennis doubles team of Clint Craven and Nathaniel Wickham lost twice at the Section IV championship, Tuesday, May 15.
Craven and Wickham fell to Susquehanna Valley's Cody Jacobs and Mason Spottek, 6-0, 6-0. Of their opponents, Coach Scott Morse said "They are unbelievably good and went on to win the sectional title and a birth in the state finals tournament."
Watkins then had the chance to play another losing team on the other half of the draw with the ability to win and play the next day. However, Craven and Wickham lost to Chenango Forks' Declan Houlihan and Daniel Saroka, 6-4, 7-6.
"The boys fought hard in the match but fell short after rallying late," said Morse.
Lacrosse
The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team topped Oneonta, 18-7, Tuesday, May 15.
Joe Chedzoy posted five goals and five assists. Dalton Cummings scored five goals, with two assists, while Jackson Dunham had five goals and one assist. Seth Swinnerton added two goals one assist. Jake DeJong scored once. Kaitlyn Valla had four saves in goal.
"The team played a great game," said Coach Nils Watson. "It is a bittersweet win, the seniors that are graduating were part of the first team we had at WG on the modified level."
Seneca Indians
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team suffered a loss to Waverly, 1-0, in the first round of Class B Sectionals, Thursday, May 17.
Both teams remained scoreless for the first seven innings. Waverly earned its run in the eighth inning.
Sean Kelly, Caleb Thomas, Regan Scholtisek, and Johnny Niedermaier each had one hit. Josh Updyke and Caleb Thomas both earned a walk.
On the pitcher's mound, Michael Doane struck out five. Derrick Lewis also had three strikeouts.
The combined Watkins-Odessa baseball team ended its regular season, Wednesday, May 16, with a 10-1 win over Newfield.
Thomas was 3-for-4, with four RBIs, a double, and a home run. Doane went 2-for-3, with two RBIs and a double. Steven Gublo and Hunter Holley each had a hit and one RBI.

Baseball and softball falls; track competes at leagues
CAMPBELL--The Dundee varsity baseball team lost to Campbell-Savona by a score of 13-3, Thursday, May 17. Logan Thompson had two hits and two RBIs, Kyle Cratsley and Zack Neu added two hits apiece. Also on Thursday, the Scots lost to South Seneca by a score of 15-4. Neu had 2 hits and an RBI, while Thompson added a hit and two RBIs.
Dundee lost to Naples 13-6, Wednesday, May 16. Tanor Morrison had two hits and an RBI, Cratsley had two hits and two RBIs, and Kenny Empson had a hit with two RBIs.
Softball
The Dundee varsity softball team lost to Naples, Wednesday, May 16. The final score was 9-2. Makenzie Strait registered a hit for the Lady Scots.
Track and field
The Dundee boys varsity track and field team took ninth and the girls 22nd at the Wayne-Finger Lakes League Championship, Saturday, May 19.
William Hall was third in the long jump (19'10.5"), seventh in the 100 meter dash (12.21), and seventh in the triple jump (37'4"). Leif Hoyt took third in the discus (116'6"). Preston Cole was fourth in the shot put (39'4"). Sam Richards placed fifth in the pole vault (10'0"). Josh Cramer finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.30). Matt Wood was seventh in the 1600 meter run (4:52.22).
For the girls, Lily Hall was sixth in the long jump (14'2") and eighth in the triple jump (31'8.5"). Melina Everetts took seventh in the pole vault (6'3"). Katrina Thompson placed 17th in the shot put (25'7.5"), while Hallie Knapp was 22nd in the discus (64'7").
The Scots varsity track and field teams hosted the Dundee Last Chance meet, Monday, May 14.
For the boys, Cramer took first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:01.72) and second in the 110 meter hurdles (17.95). Hall placed first in the long jump (21'3.5"), first in the triple jump (38'5.5"), and third in the 100 meter dash (11.71). Cole won the shot put (39'4.5") and was fourth in the discus (106'6").
Hoyt took first in the discus (133'7") and third in the shot put (35'11.5"). Julian Ortiz was second in the high jump (5'10"). Richards finished second in the shot put (38'2.5"). Austin Brace was fourth in the 400 meter dash (55.63) and fifth in the long jump (18'2"). Billy Bowers placed fourth in the pole vault (9'6"), while Josh Kane was fourth in the long jump (18'4"). Matt Wood finished fourth in the 800 meter run (2:10.49). Tate Hoyt was fifth in the discus (103'8").
For the girls, Hall took second in the long jump (14'11.25"), second in the triple jump (33'0"), and fifth in the high jump (4'4"). Everetts tied for fourth in the pole vault (6'0"). Knapp was eighth in the long jump (13'3.75").

Penn Yan moves to second round of sectionals
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity baseball team defeated Wayland-Cohocton 12-3, Monday, May 21 in the first round of sectionals. The Mustangs now face Haverling in the second round, Tuesday, May 22. Results were not available at press time.
The Mustangs' varsity baseball team topped Geneva, 11-9, Thursday, May 17.
Peyton Schuck earned three hits, with three runs and two RBIs. Donny McMahon also had two hits, with three runs and two RBIs. Kyle Miller posted two hits and two RBIs. Nick Hoover and Josh Smith both had one RBI.
Penn Yan beat Wayne, Wednesday, May 16. The final score was 7-4.
Schuck led with two hits, earning five RBIs. Derrick Riviello had one hit, with a homerun and two RBIs. Brennan Prather was also 1-for-3.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team placed eighth in the Wayne-Finger Lakes League Championship, while the boys were 21st, Saturday, May 19.
Maci Nicholson took first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (7:51.17). Emma Harling won the shot put (34'5.75") and was fifth in the discus (81'5"). Joddie Decker was sixth in the 1500 meter run (5:15.76). Samantha D'Arpino placed ninth in the pentathlon high jump (3'9.25") and ninth in the pentathlon shot put (18'3.75"). Teresa Pietrusinski finished ninth in the discus (74'8").
Dominic Lafferty placed eighth in the pentathlon high jump (4'9"), 11th in the pentathlon long jump (15'2.75"), 11th in the pentathlon 110 meter hurdles (21.05), 13th in the pentathlon 1500 meter run (5:26.67), 14th in the pentathlon shot put (25'.75"), and 13th in the pentathlon overall. Garrett Golden was seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:37.56). Connor Moore took 16th in the 3200 meter run (11:35.97).
Boys lacrosse
The Mustangs' boys varsity lacrosse team lost to Penfield, 12-2, Friday, May 18.
Austin Blumbergs scored once, with an assist. Conner Fingar also earned a goal. Jeff Kinyoun had five saves in goal.
Penn Yan topped Marcus Whitman, Wednesday, May 16. The final score was 18-6.
The Mustangs took an early lead scoring six goals in the first quarter. Fingar led with five goals and three assists. Ayden Mowry posted four goals and two assists, while Blumbergs added three goals and three assists. Dylan Stape and Max Brodmann each scored twice. Ryan Moon and Colton Smith each earned one goal. Devon Gerhardt assisted twice. In goal, Kinyoun posted six saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team topped Aquinas, 13-11, in the last game of the regular season, Monday, May 14.
Elissa Callaway led with four goals and one assist. Sydney Bloom had three goals and four assists, while Alli Olevnik earned three goals and one assist. Hannah Keech scored twice. Logan Broome added one goal. Alexandra Cox posted six saves.
The Lady Mustangs are seeded second in the Class D Sectionals and are scheduled to face the number seven seed, Gananda, Tuesday, May 22, in the quarterfinals.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team fell to Geneva, Thursday, May 17. The final score was 3-2.

Hammondsport tops Northstar, 12-11
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport varsity baseball team topped Northstar, 12-11, in eight innings, Thursday, May 17.
Jackson Cummings led the offense with two doubles clearing the loaded bases both times, earning six RBIs. Harley Underwood scored three times. Brock Underwood drew three walks and scored twice.
"The team kept their composure and kept putting things together," said Coach Dan Conley. "This was a true team effort to send off our seniors. We have hit the ball well all season, but struggled with leaving guys on base. Tonight Jackson did his best to fix that."
Hammondsport fell to Campbell-Savona, 14-2, Wednesday, May 16.
Cummings had both hits for the Lakers. Mike Beam had two stolen bases, while Cummings, Hunter Ball, and Harley Underwood each had one. On the pitcher's mound, Sam Zyla struck out three.
The Lakers beat Whitesville, Monday, May 14. The final score was 5-2.
Beam pitched all seven innings for Hammondsport, with three strikeouts and one earned run. Batting, Beam, Whitney, Andrew Hill, and Harley Underwood each posted an RBI.
Softball
The Hammondsport/Prattsburgh varsity softball team fell to Alfred-Almond, Saturday, May 19. The final score was 22-2.
